Brideprice in Nigeria is one of the characteristics of the low mentality existing in Nigeria culture, those calling 24 naira are being untruthful, after spending millions the family will fraudulently give you a receipt of amount below 1000 naira.

Well.I am from mbaise.and married an mbaise lady.lives happily. I was given 260k pride price in 2010.but I end up paying just 12anand I was accepted. They asked for 160tubers of yam.but I managed to bring 20tubers.itaccepted. My elder sis just got married she is a medical doc.the husband from
orlu payef only 6k for bride price.I don't know how come all these lazy talks ac

Why will they not gree for you, are you not their kinsman.

At the end of the day, as with all things ibo, it all boils down to current and future economics.
They can ~~sell~~ give her to you for cheap because they know that if you have daughters and want to marry out their granddaughter, as a kinsman, you will in the future come and ask them what they want to add on the list for them. Thus by letting you have her easily than some outsider, they ensure that wealth still keeps making its way into the village.

But if you were an outsider, they know after this one nothing for them again. They can't be too sure when they will get something from you again. So naturally, you would have to pay everything on their list. That is when you see people arguing that the 100 yams you bought are too small and will be counted as half so you have to either go additionally buy 50 bigger yams or 100 of the same size.

And I know you know what I'm saying is true.

Even the list in my village cannot pass 150k at most....Mbaise is obviously the only part of Igbo land where they charge outrageous fees....the annoying thing is that parts of Rivers state also have outrageous fees, but nobody comes online to whine about it

Igbo traditions are not one and the same. My own part of Igbo land is more Efik than Igbo sef.

If you cannot correct an assumed ignorance, then it can be assumed you know nothing either and are just putting up a reuse, custodian of Igbo tradition
