I intend to enrich my would-be students. I taught myself Psychology, Philosophy, Computing, History and Religion.

Dear OP, you have relevant and achievable goals. You have also done well in adding value to yourself in various ways. However, to be relevant and to excel in academics, you need to specialize. Will you say you want to lecture in Biochemistry, IT and Data Security, or in EEE? I will suggest you stick to one field if you want to go far and build a career in academics. The Nigerian university system does not really recognize generalists. I know of someone who had a background in Management Sciences and was lecturing there but went ahead to do a PhD in Social Sciences (Geography for that matter!) The person had to do another PhD in the Management Sciences to be recognized and promoted. Please stick with one specialization, and be very good in it. Peace

Thanks pal. Of course i can't help it. It was deliberate that I could fit into diverse fields. Actually my focus is on Security and Intelligence.
I am the only one that could link all my fields together. 1. I hope to explore Biochemistry in Defence and National Security vis a vis Misuse of Biotechnology.
2. Technology management with respect to Management of Defence Technology. I am currently coding my website to harmonise all these fields and to sell myself. My dream is to be a Defence Analyst and National Security expert. I hope to earn three PhDs in these fields if chanced.
Thanks.

The earlier poster has already spelt out what you need to do to get a lecturing job as your thread title says, if you wanna lecture esp on a tertiary level, you need to specialize else you keep sending applications here and there, maybe you shuld look at the profiles of lecturers on linkedin and see what i mean
You could still lecture in computer/IT depts if thats where you plan on teaching but you'll prolly have to finish your Msc's first and hope for a call

From the way you sound tho. it sounds like you should be with an IT firm. If you wanna do it with Govt with the 'Defence analyst/National security expert' roles you mentioned earlier, its cool also

As for lecturing, you need to specialise else you might keep sending applications for a while esp if you plan on lecturing here in naija (status quo ish)

All the best bro and welldone!

Honestly you gave a good advice. But I see it demeaning to give my life to one career line. I could thrive almost anywhere and exploring these options gives me joy. The last time I took a job was 2012 and I have been living on my talent as a self-trained IT person and running offices that are solely my own. I just need this country to look beyond qualification and and bring people on board to augment existing knowledge pool in academics.
Thanks pal!

Too much degrees will not make you to get lecturing job. My friend with HND got a job in one of the universities via connection. Now, he is quietly doing his M. Sc via FG sponsor to convert to a lecturer. Keep on boosting with ur degrees.

English and grammars won't help OK. Just God and connection.

To be frank with you, the education background you refuse to have might hunt you later if you eventually secure a lecturing job in a govt owned institution. Besides,I asked how you manage to combine two Masters together at the same time in Nigeria. OAU does now allow such, kindly explain? best of luck.

I was to attempt funaab first but opted for oau. With 2 course works and thesis remaining at oau i had to return to funaab. OAU only frown at 2 Masters within the same pg school and not elsewhere. I believe?

The most important thing is that I am happy.
It takes me less than three months to become an expert in any field i choose. In my univ days my colleagues called me Prof.
A single career is boring and dangerous. I was in health sector as a Medical rep while running a drugstore, I saw the trend in the economy and I quickly diversified to IT. Brother! Unfortunately, OP doesn't sound as someone ready to learn. Lecturing, not only in Nigerian schools, requires us knowing you with a specific line... Even the Biochemistry have specialization (I'm a Plant biochemist). All these your jack of all is inconsequential to the lecturing line. If you start something, you must finish it

EVER HEARD OF MULTIDISCIPLINARY COURSES THAT ACCEPT PEOPLE FROM DIVERSE CAREERS TO MAJOR. I am on course sir. One of my lecturers at OAU studied Geography for BSc and earned a PhD in a field distinct from Geography. I had admission at Sussex in 2007 MSc to research on Risk and Safety in Industries under Technology and Innovation Management. I conceived the idea of Speed limiter before hearing of it at all. And, I am a Biochemist.

I'm also an aspiring lecturer. I just finished my masters degree program from ABU Zaria. Also applied for my Ph.D program immediately before leaving Zaria. Currently sending my application for a lecturing position. Studied Bsc Biology at first degree from KSU , M.sc Zoology at second degree with specialization in Entomology. Ph.D program is also Entomology as my specialization. If you want to go far in academics, you need to be consistent. That's how I see it. Anyway I pray I get a lecturing job soon

Yes. He needs to focus on a specialty. If tyou want to focus on biochemistry then do it.
You don't need to roam about.
I am a young university lecturer and a geologist.
So I support your answer

My advice to OP.
You have a first degree in biochemistry. 2 masters degrees in security studies and computer science. That is 3 field of studies. It is really too much.
1. Decide on which of the field you want to go into.
2. Pick a specialty in that field and focus on it.
Even if you get a lecturing job with all these certificate now, it might stand against when you are about to get the Professorial seat.
Re: Seeking Lecturing Job? by olawalepopoola: 7:59am On Dec 18, 2017
Have you developed your M.Sc thesis into manuscript and publish them?
That will give you advantage over your peers.
I am young lecturer in one of the Nigerian universities. I started as a technologist with my first degree. During this period I published 5 papers (although not perfectly written) and submitted them to some international and local journals where they were published.
After my M.Tech I wasn immediately converted to AL based on my papers.
As of today I am being considered for LII position just after 2 years.
During these 2 years I have published another 5 papers (3 in local journals, 1 in non-SCI journals amd 1 in SCI journal).
I have 2 manuscripts submitted for publications.
I am almost done with my PhD and I see myself getting at least 10 papers from my PhD thesis.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT IF YOU MUST SUCCEED IN ACADEMICS YOU MUST BE COMPETITIVE.

I pick the idea of two masters degree from Marie Curie who claimed that one masters degree is not enough. She had MSc in Chemistry and Mathematics. I think!?

Happiness will be very faraway from you until you pay me my money. Useless jack of all trades, master of 419.

This guy, Ikuomola Olufunso Adebanjo is a scammer. If you reach out to him for a job, he will request you make 50% or 70% down payment. The moment you do that, he won't deliver your job, he will then tell you that he will refund, but he will never make the refund.

I reached out to him to assist with data collection and requested a 50% upfront payment which I paid. Unfortunately, he failed to deliver within the 30 days timeline.

So, we agreed for a refund, sadly, he has not made the refund, has refused to pick my call and respond to WhatsApp messages.

I would like to take a moment to expose the personality behind @nigeriancritic1. His real name is Ikuomola Olufunso Adebanjo, he stays in Abuja, somewhere around Navy Estate.

I saw him on X (formerly Twitter) as someone who engages in academic research activities, so I contacted him for a data collection gig.

We reached a payment agreement and he requested a 50% upfront payment which I paid him instantly. According to him, the timeline for the job is 30 days. Which we both agreed.

For like a week, I noticed the response at the backend of the Google form sheet we are using for the data collection isn't increasing and I was telling him to tell me the issue. He kept on assuring me that I shouldn't worry since we agreed for 30 days and the timeline hadn't elapsed.

I kept following up with him, but he kept on telling me different stories. There were moments when he even stopped responding to me.

I patiently waited for the timeline to elapse and reached out to him. At first, he ignored me. He didn't return all my missed calls; I had called him severally. Out of the blue moon, he reached out to me with an excuse that he wouldn't be able to continue with the data collection (this is after the timeline has elapsed. We now agreed to a refund. So, I sent him my account details asking him to make the refund now. He then went further to tell me that all he knows is that he would make a refund.

Sadly, this guy didn't apologize for wasting my time, he didn't sympathise with me for the precious one month he had wasted. Now, I am left behind among my coursemates and turned into an unserious student. This action has emotionally affected me negatively.

He has even blocked me on X (formerly Twitter). Please in all you do, don't patronise him. Many legit people can do the work. He is majorly after money, first thing he always ask for is either 50% of 70% payment and then he will ghost you, only to return with excuses.
