So I had this conversation with someone and it seems we both have different opinions about it so we decided to seek for wider opinions.

Which will you go for
1) A lecturing job in a state college of education outside Lagos (salary: Normal naija lecturer package.)

2) A data analyst ( stock invoice) in Lagos which requires you to go to work Monday to Saturday. (Salary 200k)

Which will you pick and why?

You can choose the lecturing job for security reasons.

But somebody like me will stick with Lagos.

Kindly go to outside Lagos since it's up for consideration.
With that pay you are a rich man outside Lagos reasons are as follows
1. You can sell hand out with careless abandon & sell text book,
2. Open a business center and make sure the class does all the photocopies there, not to mention you will be a project supervisor, you mandate them they MUST use your business center.
3. With 50k out of that cash, your utility bills are likely covered and you can save as much as 40% at the end of the day.
4. You can choose to work when you like, if you do not feel like coming you just tell the Class rep you aint coming
5. You are not working Mon -Sat

Meanwhile in Lagos,
1. Transportation can gulp 50k off the pay monthly,
2. Accommodation can gulp a big chunk even when the house is not a match compared to what you will get outside Lagos with equivalent sum or less.
3. Plus the population is increasing with Imota rice mill, Dangote refinery and Lekki deep seaport, the madness of traffic will increase
Finally, you already know how frustrating Lagos traffic can be plus your life expectancy will be reduced
If you stay in Lag for 50 years, you would have spent 15 years in traffic. Lol grin

You should look at the options on the area of job growth in the next ten years. The lecturing job, does it permit you to rise within the ranks? The Data Analyst job, does it permit you to rise as well? You should not be much concerned about remunerations now as by future job prospects. I believe you should go for the lecturing job.

We don't need lectures that will be lecturing and students will be sleeping.

Many Nigerian lecturers are without salary for up to 6 months this year, because of ASUU strike.

Go for lecturing if your aim in life is to impart knowledge or to become a university professor.

However, from the little we know, there is a lot of opportunities in the data analytics field and you can even move to higher paying jobs within 2-3 years if you apply yourself.

The choice is yours.

The lecturing job is better. You become a civil servant. As you progress in service you get promotions and your salary increases. When you retire you will also be paid pension and gratuity with less stress at work.

As a lecturer in the civil service you also get invited to be a visiting lecturer in several other institutions and as you grow in service you profession will also generate a side business for you in the education industry and you will flourish well. You can get a data analysis jobs top organization will give you as contracts to do for them. You can start a school, you can open a business center in the college of education, universities and do well in business related to your field.

Sit at Lagos for 200k in a month that you can't spend at peace or afford it in full!
