An early Christmas gift for all Nigerian military enthusiasts.
Just hope they will not add more T72 tanks or something stupid.

Hypocrite you now turn your back on your opinion on the other military photo thread because SupremeCourt also rejects T-72, you kept quiet here while your God-forsaken mafia friends start asking for more T-72 just to prove I am wrong. You will rather watch you fatherland misled than to stand up for the benefit of Nigeria. Shame on you, may God never allow any of you deceivers to enter any government position of power in Nigeria, you will sell your country just to boost your ego, traitor, people like you and your Nairaland mafia are the spiritual sons of Dasuki ATM.

Gentleman, you are inventing reality. You are not more patriotic than any one here. It was simple, prove your claim that the T72s were "falling into pieces" you shifted your goalpost and started attacking personalities even stooped so low to equate some here to slaves that be sold. What do you think this place is? A funny farm?

Since you've quietly watched me you'd know I don't indulge in blowing things out of proportion which you currently are an emeritus at.

You didn't follow from the beginning I guess. SupremeCourt claimed Nigeria's T-72 tanks are falling apart and he was asked to prove his claims. He ended up trying to make things look like T-72 tanks are useless in COIN and we all hate T-90 tanks because we are black men, we don't like progress etc.

He successfully moved the discussion to his comfort zone while dodging the main question he was asked.

For me $1 billion isn't that much and buying some Russian SU-30/mig 35, yak_130, and more MRAPs to replace the hilux will help the military a lot. We haven't even talked of other procurement/expenses the military can't run from and the money is almost finished. Someone is here claiming T-90 must be bought because T-72 are falling apart because of 1pic he saw on Internet.
Well till BHT terrorist get their hands on ATGM then we're safe for now.

but to be frank T-72s especially our own model is gradually becoming obsolete.

It pains you to bone marrow, I told you what you need to remember, you have no job, no career, no achievement, and Nairaland is your daily cocaine sniff for happiness. You asked me to keep quiet for your friends to ride me like donkey on the photo thread, I shoved that back into your face and you saw you acted senseless.

You want me to sacrifice my own human rights of freedom of speech to maintain the ever elusive peace on Nairaland military threads because you are not smart enough to know that 20 men in one room have 20 different characters and will always fight in that room, but you want to force me to mellow down for other to trample on so you can enjoy a quiet Nairaland since your daily mood swings like pendulum with the mood on internet, your happiness goes on and off like NEPA-PHCN depending on how Nairaland arguments sway sweet or bitter.

I have put you where you belong, and I crushed the skull of your self-imposed mafia rulers who want to control other people's freedom on the web. Patriotism is missing with many Nigerians like Dasuki, Badeh, Amosu and most of you here on Nairaland military forums, born into this unlucky country. You will gladly sacrifice Nigeria for personal gain of ego or cash. I know a patriot when I see one. You are not that kind of breed, thinking you are does not make you one.

Yes I posted many falling to pieces photos of Nigerian T-72 tanks with many dozens of broken and lost ERA armour many times here, the army 'captain inside T-72' who first asked for my evidence has melted away when he saw these photos, only ego will not let him admit I proved him wrong, but human conscience told him I am too right to be wrong and he stopped challenging my T-72 claims.

99% of you here on Nairaland have an epidemic disease of dishonesty and insincerity, you never admit you are proved wrong in the face of facts and clear evidence, you still keep denying truths till the person telling the truth calls you the name you deserve to be called.

Any Nigerian seeing these photos and still denying Nigerian T-72 tanks are falling to pieces is a traitor not a patriot. I posted the ERA pics when we purchased and the ERA now gone leaving large visible empty spaces that Boko Haram RPG will enter and cook up T-72 ammunition storage to roast innocent soldiers to ashes, and for this you all lie to yourselves that I have destroyed this thread. Only God knows how many millions of demonic people we have among 180 million Nigerians.

Please go find a full time job with good monthly salary and stop wasting your productive youthful years on internet, Nairaland wont pay you any salary, and your mood will never be stable as you seek happiness among all kinds of men who prowl here with cult demons controlling them. Truth is bitter, go find a career job sir.

Ignoring the words and responding to the pictures.

Before I start the term "T-72" means nothing - there are 3 types of T-72 (technically 5 with foreign versions). The original is the T-72M or T-72 Ural. The Ural was followed by the T-72A and then the T-72B - the T-72B evolved into the T-90.

Nigeria received:
~20 T-72M's, which are export versions of the T-72A. These would go to places like Poland, Romania, Hungary and other Russian allys.
~20 T-72B's, which are the originals built in Russia for Russia.

The issue with the side-skirts on the T-72M is because it uses rubber to attach the skirts to the main-hull of the vehicle. This is a cost saving exercise that has little effect on protection. The purpose of the side-skirt is to stop the vehicle kicking up too-much dust/mud while on the move.

The ERA bricks are really heavy, and if you crash into anything, or smash through anything, they have a habit of taring off.

This problem was remedied with the T-72B production run which replaced the rubber with (non-ballistic) composites as the side skirts on the T-72B are specifically designed to carry ERA, while the side-skirts on the T72-A are not (ERA was an "after-market" addition to the 72A)

Its a massive non-issue

GENERAL COURT MARSHAL SENTENCES SOLDIERS TO DEATH
.....others for various jail terms

The General Court Martial (GOC) sitting in Maiduguri, Borno State has sentenced a soldier serving in Operation LAFIYA DOLE to death for murder. Other soldiers also bagged jail sentences for various offences ranging from manslaughter to illegal possession of fire arms and ammunitions.

The soldier, Lance Corporal John Godwin, was charged with murder, which is punishable under Section 106 (a) of Armed Forces Acts (Cap A20), Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2004, for killing five rescued civilians in Yamteke town of Borno State. The civilians were earlier rescued by troops of the soldier's battalion and were taken for investigation at the time the soldier shot and killed 5 of them.

Another soldier, Sergeant Innocent Ototo, was sentenced to life imprisonment for manslaughter after torturing and killing a 13 year old boy who he said stole his phone. The incident happened at Zamanbari area of Maiduguri metropolis in Borno State.

While Lance Corporal Benjamin Osage and Private Sunday Onwe were also sentenced to 20 years imprisonment each for offences bordering on manslaughter and illegal possession of fire arms and ammunition.

Delivering the judgement, the President of the Court Martial, Brigadier General Gbenga Olusegun Adesina, said that the offences run contrary to Nigerian Army’s Rules of Engagement (ROE) and also against Nigerian Laws and Geneva Conventions which Nigeria is signatory to and which the Nigerian Army as a professional Army holds in high esteem.

All the soldiers’ sentences are subject to confirmation by the Chief of Army Staff, while those of officers are subject to confirmation by the Army Council.

PRESS RELEASE
167 INSURGENTS CAPTURED AS TROOPS INTENSIFY OPERATIONS IN LAKE CHAD ISLANDS

Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have intensified the ongoing offensive on Boko Haram enclaves in the Islands around the Lake Chad region. The offensive which commenced about two weeks ago with coordinated air and artillery bombardments on Boko Haram enclaves while ground troops moved in to clear the areas, is yielding positive results, as several insurgents have been killed and 167 insurgents who were fleeing from the offensive have been captured by troops.

Troops also extricated and profiled 67 women and 173 children who revealed during profiling exercise that they are family members of insurgents who fled, following troops' offensive. Arrangement is ongoing to hand them over to IDP camp authorities after preliminary investigations are concluded.

Meanwhile in the past two months, troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have sustained ongoing precursor operations and have conducted long range fighting patrols and ambushes seeking out and clearing BHT hideouts in Saada and Juwei in the fringes of northern Borno. During the operations troops intercepted and arrested 53 fleeing insurgents who have been profiled and are currently helping with investigations. Fifteen insurgents have also willingly abandoned the insurgent group, describing it as a futile struggle and have surrendered to troops of Operation Lafiya Dole within the period.

Our heartfelt sympathy and condolences go to families and relations of troops as well as civilians who paid the supreme price in the encounters and callous suicide bomb and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks by the terrorists.

While troops continue relentlessly in the ongoing offensive to decisively rid the north east hinterlands of insurgents, members of the public are implored to be more security conscious and vigilant in their homes, communities, places of worship , markets and other places of business to identify strange persons as well as any suspicious activity and promptly report same to security agencies. They are also urged to remember to “Say something, if you see something”.

PRESS RELEASE

NO UN STAFF KILLED IN MAULA ENCOUNTER WITH INSURGENTS

Contrary to the information currently making the rounds in a section of the media that four United Nations staff had been killed and four trucks conveying food for internally displaced persons were carted away, the Theatre Command Operation Lafiya Dole wishes to state that the report grossly misrepresents the true situation of the incident as none of the casualties in the encounter has been identified as a staff of the UN.

In setting the record straight, it is necessary to state here that a patrol escorting a convoy of civilian vehicles to Logomani encountered an ambush staged by elements of Boko Haram insurgents at Maula village along Dikwa-Ngala trans sahara highway which resulted in a firefight between troops and the insurgents. The troops however fought through the ambush, overpowered the insurgents and killed six of them. The troops also captured 3 AK 47 rifles, 3 locally fabricated fire arms, 4 magazines and a belt of 7.62 mm ammunition. Sadly four persons died in the encounter. Although none of the persons killed in the ambush has so far been identified as a staff of the UN, this Headquarters considers the lives of all citizens and indeed all humans sacrosanct, which must be protected by troops even at a supreme price.

The situation has been brought under control and and further exploitation of the general area is currently being carried out by Mobile strike Team of Operation Lafiya Dole.

Please disseminate this information through your various news media to the general public.

Thank you for your cooperation.

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE COMMENCES OPERATION RUWAN WUTA 3, SETS BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS STRUCTURES ON FIRE

On 12 Dec 17, the Air Task Force of OP LAFIYA DOLE commenced an intensive bombardment of the hideouts of Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) in Northern BORNO and the SAMBISA general area in an operation codenamed Operation RUWAN WUTA 3. On the first day of the Operation, an air interdiction mission was conducted on a BHT hideout in KOLARAM, which is 37km East of MONGUNO. Previous Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions by Nigerian Air Force (NAF) platforms had revealed KOLARAM to be an active BHT location from where the terrorists had launched attacks on our surface forces in Northern BORNO. Accordingly, 2 NAF helicopters were detailed for a pre-dawn attack on the settlement, followed by another wave of attacks from 4 fighter aircraft. Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) showed that several structures were destroyed, causing fire within the settlement while some insurgents were killed in the process. On the same day, one NAF helicopter and some fighter aircraft attacked an adjoining settlement Southeast of KOLARAM, targeting structures that had been observed to host significant BHT activities. The targeted BHT structures were destroyed and engulfed in fire, killing the terrorists hiding in them.

During the attacks on KOLARAM and Southeast of KOLARAM, some escaping insurgents were tracked as they fled northwards to JUBILARAM, which is 38km Northeast of MONGUNO. Accordingly, another wave of air interdiction was launched on the location, which was also found to be active with BHT activities. Four NAF fighter aircraft took turns to attack structures occupied by BHT elements in the settlement. Subsequent BDA revealed that the attacks resulted in a large part of the settlement being engulfed in fire, thereby destroying the BHTs structures and neutralizing the fleeing BHTs.

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE HONOURS LATE AIRCRAFTMAN, COMMISSIONS ADDITIONAL AIRMEN’S RESIDENTIAL ACCOMMODATION IN MINNA

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has honoured late NAF 10/25170 Aircraftman Jamilu Lawal, in appreciation of his sacrifice to end insurgency in Nigeria, by naming the newly constructed block of 30 units of one-bedroom self-contained apartments after him. The late airman, who paid the supreme price while serving in Operation ZAMAN LAFIYA in Northeastern Nigeria, was recognized for placing the interest of the nation above personal interest. The residential accommodation, which is meant for the accommodation of Junior Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) serving in Minna, was commissioned on Friday, 15 December 2017. This is in continuation of efforts by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, to ensure that all personnel of the NAF and their families are properly accommodated.

The CAS, who was represented at the commissioning ceremony by the Chief of Administration, Air Vice Marshal Lawal Alao, stated that the current NAF leadership places a high premium on personnel welfare. Accordingly, everything possible is being done to make them comfortable, considering the enormous sacrifices they make on a daily basis. He then urged the beneficiaries to take adequate care of the new facilities. He added that the Federal Government was very mindful of the sacrifices being made by military personnel and hence, its commitment to their welfare through the provision of adequate resources to execute the various welfare projects. He encouraged the personnel to continue to be loyal, dedicated and professional in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

The Jamilu Block is one in the series of residential accommodation blocks and other projects commissioned at 351 Base Services Group, Minna under the current NAF Administration to enhance personnel welfare. It would be recalled that the NAF, on 26 September 2017, commissioned a 10 x 1 residential block for NCOs in Minna and named it after late Flight Sergeant Hassan TM, who also paid the supreme price during the ongoing war against insurgency. Other projects recently commissioned at the NAF Base Minna include an office complex, an 18 x 2 Senior NCOs’ accommodation and other types of residential accommodations. Besides, as part of efforts by the current NAF leadership to have accommodation sufficiency and improve the welfare of personnel for effective and efficient service delivery, several residential accommodations had been built in different parts of the country. A notable feature in the NAF, in the current dispensation, is the focus on the immortalization of NAF personnel who paid the supreme sacrifice in the course of service to the nation.

TROOPS INFLICT HEAVY CASUALTY ON BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS AS THEY ABANDON VEHICLES, ARMS AND EQUIPMENT

In continuation of Operation DEEP PUNCH 2, designed to smoke out Boko Haram terrorists inhabiting remote islands in Lake Chad basin lying within Nigerian territory, troops of 8 Division, Nigerian Army, on Operation LAFIYA DOLE, supported by soldiers of the Armed Forces Strike Group have inflicted heavy casualty on Boko Haram terrorists.

The operation which commenced about 2 weeks ago was proceeded by coordinated air and artillery bombardment of islands and localities occupied by terrorists, and from where they sneak into Magumeri, Kauram and other locations to loot property and attack security personnel and villagers.

So far, 20 terrorists have been killed, captured 17 others, while over 100 elderly men, women and children have been rescued. Preliminary investigation has revealed that a large number of the rescued persons were held against their will and forced to work in farms under life threatening conditions and penurious wages. More investigation and interviews will be conducted before the rescued persons are handed over for further action.
