Please do tell.

Your question borders around 'plagiarism' and this is a broad area to look at.

But briefly: Plagiarism is when you copy someone else's words or ideas, or just about anything(text, graphics, etc) without attribution of the original source.

Some people think that if they copy for example a paragraph of 5-sentences, and if they are able to edit like 3-sentences / rewrite it, then they havent plagiarized.

I usually advise people who want to start a blog, write about what you know.

As such, your information is always fresh and from your own perspective.

It is not okay to copy other peoples' creative works. It is called 'plagiarism' (Theft of intellectual property) and you can be sued for it.

The exception to the 'act' is if you have full permission from the copyright owner or the content is now under public domain (Its more than 75 years since the owner died or the content is over 100years).

Apart from being sued for plagiarizing, you can lose followership trust/ respect as your readers will not respect your articles because they are not first-hand information. Also, in a situation whereby the content libelous you can be sued for libel.

Thanks for your insight but what if I want to write a post on "the hottest places in the world" and I have almost all the facts but I need more temperature data, will taking a line or two and editing it amount to plagiarism?
Thanks.

Op, stop taking wrong advice from the people above. I have access to not 1, but 2 premium plagiarism software.

As long as you did not copy and paste directly or you copied and paste but quoted d source, you are safe.

Anybody, I repeat, anybody that once wrote a piece of literature or article copied a part of it.

Copy but change the words n no search engine can detect it.

In response to that, as a writer or designer or developer. You need inspiration from other existing works. You may need to review other people's work to make yours stand out. No crime in that.

What you need to avoid is to copy their articles (There's no way you will edit other people's articles without including your own points/ideas and your readers won't suspect you). Every other person might go scot-free doing that but you may not be lucky.

Sincerely, no crime in checking out other people's, work. It helps a lot, it inspires and makes your work easier.

Thank you.

Hi,

sorry for the late reply.

You want to write about the hottest places in the world and you have almost all the facts you need but you need more temperature data. Ok, so where will you get temperature data from? You can get temperature data from several sources online, but you will have to state in your own write-up where you got the data from? If its raw data that has real time values, measurements, etc; you have to declare where you copied it from, give credibility to whom credibility is due.

Nobody will crucify you for the above. If you on the other hand present your article without sources, what you are telling the world is that you went to those places, got / measured those temperature datas yourself, which is not correct.

In the analysis of the data, if you have to copy someone else's analysis, you can, but must definitely state your sources. The assumption is that your source is more of an expert at the analysis than you are. You can then make your own comments on the analysis you have quoted - this adds more value to your own reputation.

Someone is asking a honest question about the right/wrong in plagiarism, and you come here to tell him not to take the wrong advice from people above? which people?

Are you telling us that your plagiarism software has replaced your own brain? Now you cannot think anymore?

Isnt it a human being like you and I that wrote the plagiarism software? it just means that he can think better than the software itself, else he wont write and launch it successfully.

You are the one that should stop advicing people wrongly. See, even if search engines cannot detect your plagiarised information because you have run it through your software severally, human beings can. It is not rocket science.

The software is better than anybody's brain. It works exactly like a search engine, except you are telling me that you found a person with a better brain than Google or Bing search engine.

You don't know anything about how this thing works, let it slide n stop giving people the wrong advice.

If the software is better than your brain, Is it the same software that created your NL account? the same software read my comments and replied?

That kind of mentality is what has kept Nigeria in the stone ages, technically and socially speaking.

I know a lot about how your software works, I even coded one myself. Its you that should slide out of the way, learn so that you would get correct information.

A beg, stop talking about my brain anyhow grin n stick to the topic.

I don't think you understand what you are saying. Which software did you code? You think Google or Bing will simply grant you access to their database because a guy from Nigeria can code? You see, that's why I said you have no idea how this thing works but there is no shame in that. If you don't even know how something works, how then can you code it?

Let the topic slide, I have given the OP what he needs.

If you still want to prolong this thing, you can start by giving me a screenshot of your code.

Chief,

The OPs question bordered around Plagiarism. I summarily advised that Plagiarism is not good.

You came along to berate I and the other guy who said Plagiarism isn't good, and who advised the OP on some best practices.

Later you started talking about software that is better than your brain. And I'm trying to encourage you that no software is better than your brain. As long as the software did not code itself. Abi.

Or maybe you just want to sell your software?

Anyway, Yes, I can code.

Yes, I have coded something similar to the software which you use and which you have concluded is better than your brain. Being a Nigerian is the best part coz Google and Bing are so surprised that there are many Nigerians who can code, and who have brains, better than software.

NO, I cant show you my code since you wont understand it anyway.

Besides you already have your "better than your brain software". So long bro, continue using it. Whatever rocks your boat.

cheers
