Governor Dickson Pays Army N400m For Seaport Survey by BayelsaLegacy: 7:05am On Dec 27, 2017 |
Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has presented a cheque of N400m to the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers for the survey of an additional 15,000 hectares of land for the Agge Deep Seaport in the state. He reaffirmed that the seaport remained a landmark project, which was of critical importance to the economic fortunes of the state and Nigeria in general. In a statement on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Francis Agbo, the governor said his administration placed high premium on security and security-related investments. He stated that there was the need to build partnerships with the nation’s security services, noting that security could not be maintained unless the security forces worked in tandem with the government and the people. Dickson added, “We have presented a cheque for the sum of N400m to the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers, led by its Commander, Brig. Gen. A. O. Adeleke, for the survey of an additional 15,000 hectares of land, having already surveyed 15,000 hectares for the proposed project.” http://punchng.com/dickson-pays-army-n400m/amp/?__twitter_impression=true 1 Like 2 Shares

TonyeBarcanista:Which welcome development? PH has a Port as well as Warri,Calabar and they are neighbouring states to Baylesa. Must every state with access to Sea have a Seaport? All SS states have plans to build a deep Seaport how visible is that? Edo wants to build Gelegele deep Seaport, Cross-River wants to build a new deep seaport ,Ibaka deep Seaport in Akwa-ibom, Now Agge deep Seaport in Bayelsa with the existing ones in Calabar,Warri,PH and Onne ports. Some will definitely experience low patronage because ships can only berth/land in a few ports around the same axis. 21 Likes 5 Shares |

bakynes: How it your problem if the governors of the SS decides to build deep seaport for economic growth..Bad belle. so in your mind the Apapa seaport should be the only functional port in Nigeria abi? BTW Lagos state government is also planning the Badagry seaport, so what is your problem. The Bayelsa people have the right to own a deep seaport port to boost trade and commerce. 27 Likes 1 Share |

IamEmem:Be reasonable, building Seaport in every SS state is not sustainable, some of them will definitely experience low or no patronage. Baylesa can always use the Seaport in its neighbouring states like PH port, Onne port and Warri port. Edo also can also use the one in Warri. Edo and Baylesa building their own will most likely amount to waste of resources that can be channelled into something else. 27 Likes 1 Share |

bakynes: And what do u have to say about the badagary seaport by the Lagos State govt, most likely not a waste of resources and a laudable project abi?? U try with ur reasoning. 12 Likes |

IamEmem:At least Lagos has the advantage of population and Ships can be diverted to the Badagry and Lekki Seaport as Apapa and Tincan are experiencing over patronage. These ports will also serve other SW states. But having ports in every state in SS with Rivers having two ports(PH and Onne ports) already and Cross-River having one (Calabar)and about building another a deep seaport makes it a total of 8 ports in the SS region don't you think that some of these ports will experience little or no patronage? 18 Likes |

There is so much Money in the Maritime Economy which is being enjoyed only by one city Apapa, if every state in the Niger Delta build Mini Ports and join resources to build a Mega Port that woul redefine the Maritime business in Nigeria , this would help them adjust to a post oil Economy . In short Niger deltans more than any other region should be using their 13th Percent derivation and excess crude account money to prepare and adjust for a post oil economy . On the other hand the PDP states of the SE and SE should prepare to be independent of the APC federal Antichrist polices come 2018 so much that they will be indifferent over the mad rush about borrowing loans from every angle and from every quater to develop only Lagos and Kano to the extent nof borrowing N5T from the remaining Pension account that Maina Looted 7 Likes 1 Share |

bakynes: It isx better they all build it. At least we will have something to be starring at. Better than using the money to buy mansions in London, Dubai and Capetown! Realistically, all the ports can work if we had leaders and people that had the slightest form of intelligence. The Niger Delta sits atop some of the largest gas reserves in the world enough to power the whole of Africa. If the guys at the helm have a brain, plug and play industrial parks with access to the cheapest energy would be built accross the region which would attract investors like crazy. Edo state is lucky as the Governor Obaseki is one with a brain. He is building an industrial park on the back of the Azura power plant and then capping it with the gelegele seaport. And he is not just talking. The Azura plant is already built. The Industrial park is in motion. And the seaport would soon start. 24 Likes 4 Shares
