Why do we have crude oil and we can't refine petrol. We are so in the dark age. Why do government make sure we suffer unnecessarily. I just don't understand anymore.

My solution is that government sell the crude to the company refining at no cost and all the charges attached in bringing the product into the country be removed. Then the citizen can buy the product at a very reduced price of at least N10.00. Is it not our crude.

What I see is that some people will at all cost continue with their luxury lifestyle while majority remain poor. Shame.

Nigeria is country filled with hypocrites, religious fanatics, tribalism, liars, evil minded wicked people and nepotism.

How many times have you heard minister of finance addressing the senate unlike Okonjo Iweala that they always crucify.

If it was another person from the south that have put Nigeria in this mess of no light, water and hyper inflation the country will by now occupy with protest.

Even if refineries are functioning optimally and can well meet our requirements, the marketers will still divert the products to neighbouring countries to make more profits.

Honestly, some Nigeria deserve close range firing squad.

This system of government cannot get things done and enforce laws.

Granting importers special FX is tantamount to shifting the current NNPC subsidy to CBN. But PMB said subsidy doesnt exist. Confusion break bone

It's worse.

They shouldn't have granted the marketers special FX rate.

Part of the scarcity was caused by marketers buying at the N133 from NNPC and diverting to other neighboring countries where it's sold for no less than N250. Double the profits. I'm not saying it's the major cause, I'm saying it's a contributing factor.

If you subsidize the rate for the importers, it wouldn't stop them from diverting. It'd encourage them. And also encourage all of the shady practices of the erstwhile direct subsidy regime--inflating the number of liters imported, inflating landing cost. And even new issues like round-tipping. Black market is 360. CBN sells to banks at circa 350-355. They sell to BDC at about the same rate. Now they want to sell to these importers at 305. Oooo. Them never learn.

I just pity them. When these same marketers go do them shege end of the year again, e no go funny.

Moreover, the subsidy is about N40, not N23. NNPC sells fuel to depot owners at around N130.

Buhari na anywhere belle face. No strategy, no deep thinking, nothing.

True, but the scarcity wouldn't have been as bad as it is now.

Moreover, how is it that the same custom that can intercept rice at the border (false story), cannot intercept thousands of clearly conspicuous tankers leaving the country?

You can blame the marketers all you want, but everyone is at fault.

In the end, politicians profit by promising solutions when they're part of the problem and are sponsored by the same people that cause the problem.

Hellooooooo!

What is our problem in this nation?

Either you are a PMB supporter or not, will you buy fuel at 120 when it is increased to 175 or above as this report stated.

Why can't we jointly reason together for our common good & the next generation?

Why do we continue to allow this so-called leaders to bring obnoxious policies that is ruining us & our nation?

A litre of fuel for #175 or above! Is this govt high on Kwale weed?

Are they not giving special forex rate to religious pilgrimage, let them do same for the marketers!

What's the point of our ever-increasing foreign reserves, ECA if we as citizens irrespective of political affiliation keep suffering while hustling to keep body & soul together!

I want to believe the postulated solutions by this govt is not the only way forward.

Nairalanders are brainy, we are not air-heads. Pls guys let's ponder a better solution to this fuel issue. I know we can.

Let's show them Nigerian youths are not okay with this arrangement.

Let's prove to them in a very articulate, strategic & systematic way that we have something concrete to bring to the table!

#NoToFuelPumpPriceIncrease

God bless us

I don't understand this anymore. I think the only excuse given for dollar went up was because the price of crude was at 30dollar/barrel, and now that its at almost 70dollar/barrel, I assume it should have an effect on the exchange rate. I think something is fundamentally wrong and the government needs to address why the FX is still high because its the major factor affecting the landing cost of petroleum products.

Una rly funny.

So u expect it to come down because?

Here's the summary of the game plan.

As the oil price keeps increasing, petrol price too will increase.

When the oil price falls, depending on how long, it'd affect our ability to keep the naira stable and the exchange rate will increase. When the rate increases, petrol price too will increase (because we are importing most of the petrol).

Then the cycle restarts. Oil price starts increasing, and petrol price would continue increasing. That's why petrol price has never reduced in the nation's history, and never will until there's full deregulation and we have sufficient (or better still, excessive) refining capacity.

Until then, politicians will continue using you guys to play jamboree, giving s*lly unachievable promises. While they help themselves and their cronies to the assured billions of naira to be made from the rigged setup.

Nigerians truly deserve their leaders.

The question I have for NNPC: What happened when crude oil per barrel price crashed to $30 -$40 under this Buhari, Kachikwu and Baru administration? The petroleum products landing cost must have reduced and the retail price should have reduced but NNPC & Buhari quietly pocket the gains and maintained N145 per liter of PMS. Now that the price of crude oil appreciated again, you suddenly realized the need to increase the price of PMS.

I suggest:
Conversion of NNPC to Plc and reorganization of NNPC to ensure the organization is more accountable, better administered and accommodate excellent equipment, human & material resources and engage robust international standards.
A consistent and conscious effort of the Federal Govt (FG) at ensuring private sector driven downstream petroleum industry; encourage the business of petroleum products refinery in Nigeria by offer of incentives and enabling business environment for private investors.
A petroleum products pricing system that is determined by the forces of demand and supply.

Nigerians should not accept this. The FG & the oil marketers knows exactly what they are doing & have been planning the whole time & the masses would as usual play into their desires. How money thirsty can these lots be even with the outrageous looted resource at their disposal they still deem it fit to further impoverish the masses without accomplishing basic necessity to take care of the welfare of the workers. Nigeria is done & dusted & should be shut down already.

this apc govt is the most corrupt nigeria ever had. with all these fuel increase & appreciation of crude oil, in international mkt, yet they 're still scheming to borrow a whooping $5billion. close to 3yrs, yet this govt can't boast of outstanding achievement in our national life. education, health care, road-networks, stable power supply, employments, even this pressing one now i.e. new refineries, are still on their table of: promises, promises, promises. what of insecurity, don't even go there, nigerians 're now geting used to been killed for free, without govt response. how bad can a govt be? indeed bubu is the only president that can de-humanize nigerians, and keep on receiving thanks. i wish bubu can be ruling only those zombies that voted for him.
