Here's a project in Ibadan that is showcasing some of the stuff that we discussed pages ago.

AbdulWastecx - the decking

Spyder880 - the reusable steel concrete forms

Erico2K2 - they used 6" block for foundation but they did fill it with concrete.

Compliments of the season house! Your advice would be much appreciated as usual. What brand of tiles should I consider for my floor and wall tiles. I just want something strong and durable. Does not have to be imported. All these supposed imported stuff are not necessarily the superior stuff. Guys go to places like China to source the cheapest and most inferior stuff and sell them of in Nigeria at exorbitant prices because they are "imported"! Thanks

@rabcnesbit. I had Time Ceramics, PNT and Goodwill tiles installed in my house(see attached pic). When I bought them, the boxes said made in Nigeria (Ogun and Edo State). They have withstood the test of time- from the foot traffic and harsh elements, so I'm pleased.

Glaze & ceramics are mostly used, Times, pnt & goodwill are nigerian products & they are good. You can get your tiler to accompany to u when u want to buy.
But when it comes to tiles spanish products are the best, especially for wall tiles, but they are very expensive...It all boils down to your pocket...

I decided to experiment with Nigeria tiles.

I used goodwill products and I’m satisfied.

Any visitor that’s disappointed that I didn’t use Italian or Spanish can GTFO.

Do you mean "go jump in the Lagoon"? smiley
I feel same way. I use what I can afford.
And good tiler can make a bad tile look good.
I have had opportunity using Peters&Co, they are good.

He does not need a permit to fence his land, but let him be sure that the part he is fencing is not outside the stipulated beacons giving to him when he bought the land, please ensure he use the survey plan to get the exact demarcation of his land or else future problems is being prepared with his own hands

Property line is very important.

Spyder880 had to demolish and rebuild a very beautiful fence due to this on one of his projects.

Happy new year, happy you are back on boardto fish out more knowledge from your wealth of experience.

We learn everyday, issues of line demarcation or encroachment can lead to court cases if you are unfortunate to meet a terrible neighbor, so we need to be careful and stay on our lane when it involves land issues, some people will go to any length with you if you erronodsly encroach common 3 inches into their land.

Question: why do kitchens and bathrooms/toilets get tiled from floor to ceiling all four walls in Nigeria? In Europe (not sure of US, but I believe same), just the space between the worktops and wall cabinets are tiled, the rest of the wall is just painted. Same with bathrooms, most times just half tiling, and the rest of the wall painted. See example pics below:

I think tiling the kitchen/toilet wall and floor makes cleaning the kitchen and toilet easier. I may be wrong, but I don't think a white man will fry yam in a frying pan with palm oil it in. It can be very messy and the hot palm oil spatters on the walls and floor grin grin

You certainly don't have to tile the whole wall. I tiled the kitchen wall because the walls will be easier to clean if tiled. I have a small kitchen in my apartment garage so cost was negligible. I won't do the same in the main house.

The bathroom had to be tiled that way because it's an all in one design with no demarcation between shower and the rest of the area. The main house will not be done this way.

I concur.

Hence why I enclosed my kitchen even though it is an open plan in the original design that I purchased.

Very correct sir, we don't really use all the kitchen effigy the white man uses even if we have it in our kitchen, some of them are just used to beautify our kitchen to make our visitors lealous when they are opportune do to enter our kitchen especially our wives,

I have a deep fryer I purchased over 5 years ago ,till date we have not even fried plantain with it

Sir is he suppose to erect his fence ontop of the beacons or within the beacons?

They dont pound Yam in a Pestle, in those Kitchens
They dont fry Ponmo or other explosive materials like Cow Leg, nor use locust bean to cook hydraulic soup (read: Okra soup), in such Kitchens
They dont use kerosine stove, in such kitchens
They dont hide Gas Cylinder under the Gas Stove, in those kitchens.

Dont even try to compare their oyinbo kitchens to our Nigerian own, we Tile to the Roof and even Tile the door, to make it bomb-proof! shocked grin shocked

As for Toilets/Bathrooms, just try and use that black soap in pianted bathroom and see what color you will get on the walls.
or try to 'shyte' or fart in a painted Toilet, after consuming 5Kg of Akpu with draw-soup and a keg of Orijin Beer.

Next thing you will hear is Siren and Fire bridgage!
this Africanman is trying to commit suicide! grin grin

But seriously, American/European builder will not add a single Tile, more than is necessary or required!
No Waste! No over-do!! No "see what money has done" syndrome.
But it is our money, it is our Tiles and we love it that way.
undecided undecided grin grin grin

Una all weldone, in this New year.
