a friend of mine was in these ur shoes. This is what he did.
He applied for Army RRI. The truth is, chances of bein enlisted in the Army via merit is High in the RRI than the RC,SSC and DSS. Remeber RRI takes more than 100 candidates per state. While RC, SSC and DSS take less than 15 per state.
So after applying for Army RRI He was enlisted and went to depot for training. After training, he was deployed to Education corps. He serve under his CO Lt.Col Etim. And was so loyal. After some years he told his CO his intention of goin back to school and since he is in Education corps, the need for him to ugrade academically was necessary. His CO approved his request. Right now he his doing his HND 2 at Airforce Institution of Technology in Kaduna. When he graduates, He will apply for DSS. And God helping him, he will make it and will becom a Lt in few years to com.

My bro I will advice u to take ur time, pray and let God leads u.
Okay, how can I apply for RRI If I want to join? And what's RRI?

I actually wished that, at least If I want to join Army or any defence service, I would like to be in ICT or Computer Engineering Related Department in other to be able to use my skill in the right way.

for some years I've been with the Army, this is what I observed.
From my observation o.

Under the non-commission cdr, Education is the best. Others are good o. But Education is +1 as its gives its soldiers more opportunities to go to school to and get a 1st degree or even masters than other corps.

Now for commission cdr,
the best corps so far from my observation is Infantry corps. Infantry corps is the only corps that sends its soldiers and officers for courses often. Both inside and outside the country. Note: others corps send theirs soldiers for courses both inside and outside Nigeria but not as often as Infantry.
Rememer attending courses as a soldier or officer gives u an edge over ur peers in terms of appointment and redeployment.
But Infantry is deadly. Some things u will do as a soldier in other corps and go scot free. U can't do dem in Infantry and go unpunished.

u will be given an opportunity to choose a corps the day u are about leaving depot. For trade men. Ur trade will determine where u belong.

Geez, but the age requirement for non tradesmen is between 18-22. Assuming I was able to apply for non tradesmen, what will I choose at the end of the camp?
What do you think is the best solution now? Thanks so much for being useful bro

Nice thread here.... Loads of info, please I hv a question
1) SSC upon graduation hangs 1 star(2LT) how many months will it take to become a full lieutenant, because it takes some people 18months, some 3 years and some 6 months, the last batch that just passed out Course 44 are now lieutenants in about 3 months, can one please throw more light on this. what is the number of months to drop the 1 star.
2) When will SSC 45 come out

well, droping of one star to hang two stars depends on the Nigerian Army council's decision on or before passing out of that set of officer cadets.
For example. When 59RC/40SS passed out in 2012, 59RC hanged the one star from 8th Sept 2012 to Feb 2013 before hanging the next stars. While 40SS that passed out with them hanged one star from 8th Sept 2012 to Jul 2015.
40SS lose 2years seniority and presently the are sharing seniority with 61RC.
61RC hanged their one star on Sept 2014 to Jul 2015.
62RC hanged one star from Sept 2015 to Feb 2017. Calculate the months.. 62RC have been on one star longer than 61RC. 61RC have been on one star longer than 59RC.

So everytin depends on the Army council.

Course 45 will be out April 2018. .

40SS will become Cpts together with 61RC in Jul 2018. While 59RC that passed out on the same day with 40SS were already Cpts in 2016. Can u see the two years gap?
Re: Nigerian Army SSC And DSSC 2016/2017 Forum by GenAnsahCinC: 2:34pm On Jan 06, 2018
It takes RC officer 4yrs to move frm d rank of a 2nd Lt to Capt. While it takes SSC 6yrs. The good tin is, that SSC guy dat passed out with one star and was delayed 2yrs will later senior a DSS officer dat passed out with two stars in the same year wit the SSC guy. That seniority will happend wen the SSC bcomes a Lt Col, and also if the SSC convert to RC at the rank of Capt. So when u see guys leaving DSS two stars to join SSC one star. They know what they are doing. But age is always the problem. Best luck guys.

Nice write up brother.
God bless you for this info.

Goodluck to those leaving 2Stars for 1Star, I still prefer the DSSC, one can still convert to DRC.
I was at the SSC 44 interview in August 2016, NDA old site. The training is not easy when compared to DSSC.
They are all commissioned officers though.
I will apply for DSSC this year.

I throway salute, you too much I know definitely you are in the system.
But why are they favoring this Regular guys too much its not good na, how can someone I senior salute me and later I'll be the one saluting (saying yes sir) to the person? e get as e be na!! and the worst thing is most of those guys are small boys oo(Regulars) imagine a 30years LT saluting a 24years LT the thing just tire me I swear, I was in 1Div one day and I saw a thing that disgusted me, one small boy Capt I swear that guy never reach 30yrs if you see how arrogant he was to one sergeant that is in his 50s you go cry, the Serg was just saying yes sir..
I nearly called him out due to annoyance but I calmed down and I swore in my heart that I must join the officer Cadre and by Gods grace upon commissioning I must make a difference even though na lance Corporal be my subordinate I must give the person maximum respect as far as his my senior age wise na I'm gonna break the rules nobody should call me sir(Elderly NCOs) na me go they call them sirs self.

age is a big factor in SSC. Remember retirement in the Nigerian military now is not by serving 35yrs. It's by ROD (run out date). If u are 29 and above, becarefully o. So to avoid prematured retirement.
SSC really favours guys between the age brack 24-27. Cause of the snail movement.

all the best bro. DSSC can become Corps comander.
This is Nigeria anytin is possible. Rememer the present Chief of Air Staff is not a RC officer.
I know a regular that got retired at Lt.Col the man is presently a senator.
With God whether DSS, or SSC or RC, u will still get to the peak.
