The rate at which people scam others in the country has obviously skyrocketed.

Scammers devise new strategies everyday with which they milk money from unsuspecting victims.

This was the case of a 60-year-old man, Inusa Aliyu, and his daughter, Jamila who connived to scam a supposed suitor of N710, 000 in Nasarawa State.

The duo were arraigned before a Masaka Upper Area Court, on Thursday, January 11, 2018 on a three-count charge of conspiracy, breach of trust and cheating.

According to the prosecutor, Frank Swem, one Yusuf Mamuda, who resides in Kurudu, Abuja reported to the Divisional Police Station, Masaka that one Haruna, conspired with Aliyu and compelled him to enter into a marriage agreement with Jamilia.

Haruna and Aliyu took advantage of the fact that Mamuda was looking for a wife to convince him to give them the sum of N650,000 as the total cost of the marriage rite.

“When it later occurred to me to investigate on the marriage issue in order to avoid any form of marrying a woman that has an existing marriage, I requested for her divorce certificate since they claimed that Jamila is a divorcee.

“They were unable to produce the certificate as claimed. They started dribbling me and later asked me to give them N60,000 to enable them to travel to Zamfara to bring the certificate,” Mamuda said.
