There's no tax at all on Treasury Bills investments o. But there are charges that the banks charge like custodian fees, transaction fees.

Also you may be charged stamp duties & VAT on the transfers from your account as approved by the CBN

Anyone with the current TB rate? My TB matured today, i wish i can still get the same 18% grin ... maybe i should just jump in Mutual Funds mmf huh Anyone with correct ideas?
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Cation(m): 3:06pm On Jan 12, 2018
18% may not be possible for now, the rates may continue to drop until the end of the second quarter. You can just go for 182days bill in the next auction because money market mutual fund will have a positive correlation with drop in tbill yields.

As at yesterday my SIMMF was 16.8%. Will always be 1 or 2% higher than TBills

So in essence an increase in Tbills means a decrease in MMF's?

You are a young lady who I guess is not lazy. Since you have surfaced on this thread, I implore you to pls start reading this thread from page 0 which will take you less than one month to digest. I know that many people finish novels in one week or even less especially if it's an interesting one like this thread

I am very sure that by the time you finish, you will not need to ask questions again except maybe few ones to clarify cretain things-I started that way and i have every reason to be very very grateful to God. You will be so informed that you would not need anyone to advice you on where to invest your money with almost zero % risk if you are not greedy.
'
Our problem is nothing but laziness. If those coming on board this thread afresh can endeavour to read even just first 10 pages of this thread, I m sure all these JAMB questions some ask here wont be necessary! Let newbies learn to read instead of keep asking questions that have been answered several times on this thread. Thanks.

Hmmmmmm.
Are you sure the maturity day is today and not next Thursday?.

I am asking cause I have never heard of Treasury Bills maturing on a Friday before. They usually mature on Thursdays.

If so, can you please explain to me how it is possible since Primary market sales are done on Wednesdays and Secondary market sales are the reselling of TBs purchased at the Primary market auctions before the expiration of its tenure.

While the submission that MMFs yields are greater than T-bills rates is true, you are looking at it from a wrong angle.

What you have done was to compare rates with yield; T-bills rates and MMF yield are not the same. To get an apples to apples comparison, please compare the MMF yields with T-bills yields.

The 16.8% MMF yield you quoted above is the equivalent of 14.4% T-bills rate.

MMFs invest in T-bills, CPs and other short term instruments with maturities of less than 2 years, so their reference yields can NEVER be greater than T-bills yields. This is because T-bill is the core of their investment portfolio.

The 16.8% yield you quoted above is slightly greater than the T-bills yield of 16.69% derivable from the stop rate of 14.3% of the last auction. This is because we are coming from a higher interest rate environment and the MMFs are still heavily invested in T-bills yielding 20%+. That is why both yields are neck and neck at the moment. Expect the spread between both yields to widen, with the T-bills yield higher, as we remain in this low rate environment.

Thank you.
