I've sent out my CV a million times without a message from any firm; I've walked into several organizations and they all told me how they didn't need a worker at the moment.

I am 25 years old, with a Bsc./Ed in economics; I have completed my compulsory one-year National Service, and I have a larger-than-life IT knowledge.

I work pretty well on my own (with little or no supervision), and I perform brilliantly in a team.

I need a job, and I'd be glad if I got one.

With Education in your certificate, why not apply for teaching in one of these big private schools I keep hearing about that they pay teachers over 400k? angry

I have been advising my siblings to consider studying education courses because that seems to be one of the areas you rarely find unemployed graduates. All parents want their children to be educated and all these politicians/business tycoons/etc invest heavily in their children education. They don't joke with that and those investments ultimately go to the educators in whichever form.

2.1 is not a guaranteed of jobs in Nigerian labour market today.

Do you know why? We are very many. The day i wrote NN test, 2.1 and First class in Abuja center only was more 300 applicants, just my state only. So we have 36 states and FTC Abuja that participated in the test.

Perform brilliantly in a team yet you have no work experience.

Lastly, pray to God because most jobs now experience is attached to them.

I have done many virtual jobs that are IT-related, and I did well. I didn't add that because it's not related to the course I studied.

Now that we have to many competent people chasing few available jobs, and with some little experience required, I can only pray to God like you've advised. Thanks bro.

I tried gaining experience by working jobs that are related to my field (even if I didn't get paid), but I got told "sorry," too. cry

Always add it is part of experience. Even if it is 2 months or 3 months, add it ok.

Op,the reason behind your predicament is that a host of these HRs don't know the difference between Bsc edu and Bsc. They term it education so,henceforth, use Bsc Econs in your CV for coys and Bsc edu for teaching jobs. As per the private Uni,google will provide the list and it will be advisable you submit your CV in schls around your area. Best of luck bro.

The difference is pure Economics is a degree under faculty of social sciences whereas education Economics is a degree under faculty of education. Graduate of Economics education undertakes teaching practice in university whereas Pure Economics graduates do not. The difference is huge.

That's why cut off marks of pure economics is very higher than economics education. Graduate of Economics education are trained to become an economics teacher while graduate of pure Economics are trained for management positions in organisations.

Bsc economics or BEd, first class or pass degree you'll get a job when the time is right. The problem is obviously you don't have connections. And getting a job with no connection in Nigeria could be the hardest thing ever. Have a little patience God will surely do your own.

You're wrong bro. You are one of those who look down on Bsc edu holders but let me tell you, they are better off because of their double honours. They have gone through the pratical and theoretical aspect of the course.

Jamb cut off depends on the schl,it's not because of the education aspect at all. Not sure you have checked the curriculum before giving your disparity.

If graduates of edu are trained teachers why do bsc holders teach without education background? Bro,try as much as possible to delete that notion that all holders of Bsc edu holders are teachers. They are trained teachers which makes them better off than single hons. holders.

Do you know 3rd class Bsc and Bsc edu holders must take PDE or PGDE before they can enrol for Masters programme.? PDE and PGDE are education programmes, you get it now?
NB: I graduated with single hons

You graduated 2:1 in economics and you have not started your business let alone owning a company. Why do people do such courses and end up working for another person. If I were you I had rather looked for how to add value to services and make my own. Be my own boss. Call me if you need advice. I studied engineering by the way and I love economics

What are you saying? I graduated from department of Economics at OAU in 2011. I have worked in several multinational companies before I started my business. I am telling you the difference between Pure Economics and Economics education based on reality and industry experience. You are saying trash.

Do Pure Economics do teaching practice in university like Education Economics do? As at 2007, cut off mark for Pure Economics at OAU was 275 whereas Economics education was 205. What I posted earlier is the fact and I am not ready for argument. Good day.

That is the problem with Nigerians everybody want to become a boss. It can never work like that. By now you should know that entrepreneurship is a God given talent, not everybody is entrepreneurial. And if everybody is a boss who would work for the boss?

He has said something very reasonable.

You can't compare a graduate of a field with an education graduate in same field. Even the course contents aren't same.

The course content of education is reasonably of how that subject should be thought at lower levels and of course a bit advanced knowledge of what he will teach.

A graduate of the field on the other hand is saddled with the task of understanding more advanced knowledge of the field and its various dynamics for practical applications.

For instance, relevant qualifications of Economics experts are eligible to lecture in Economics department as well as Economic education but converse can never be said of Economics Education experts.

Someone is looking for a job you are here trying to make him feel less because he studied Bsc(Ed) Economics what is pure in the Economics? From Principles of microeconomics to comparative economic system he did them all except for the elective courses associated with social science faculty and you are still claiming pure , that pure economics just so you know is not even a professional course its more of an academic and research field with this I do not see how bsc(ed) shld feel less .
At op split you CV , create two CV for yourself one shld be education (teaching) oriented include your TRCN in that one plus your IT skills , on the other CV still state your Bsc(Ed) but do not mk it education oriented don't include your trcn to it.
You will get a job soon

Who told you the course contents are not the same From principles of micro economkcs

Who told you the course contents are not the same ..

Micro&macro economics (principle)
Intermediate micro n macro
Econometric
Advanced Econometrics
Public sector economics
Economic planning
Environmental economics
Advanced Micro/Macro
Comparative economic system

They did it all and had the lectures together with those in social sciences in addition to their education courses with the same grading system no one was marked down because he isn't pure.

So I don't get your point

This is total nonsense I wonder hw u made 2:1 ofcourse with this ur position it's obvious u kw nothing. Education Economics is inferior to pure Economics as far as working for organizations apart from teaching is concerned. Ppl uninterested in teaching mostly read education Economics and not pure Economics BC of their poor UTME score. Let me not comment on the nonsense u said abt PGDE as I can see u r still a beginner. Better find ur way to where u belong "class room" n stop making fool of urself.

Shut up. What makes it inferior? What is pure abt economics ? So we have pure biology, agric, bus edu etc. ? That what was you were told while in schl that made you opt for single hons. Utme cut off is now used over board for the past 5yrs so,erase that sentiment. I stand to say, they are better off in all ramifications. I wish the govt can allow polythecnics to award B.tech for you to see how your Uni with 250 cut off has failed you because they will bring out your flaws. It is because the soaked head HR's have refused to widen their horizon that makes them look inferior. That's why they opt for Uni grads without practical knowledge of what they were taught to HND and Bsc edu holders. Someone has posted their curriculum up there, hope that helps. Talk abt the Pgde and let us learn or how will a 3rd class make up for Msc? Ode..!

I am not belittling the course of the OP. I quoted a nairalander who asked about the difference between Bsc Economics and Bsc (Ed) Economics or else I won't be on this thread. With regards to Economics, it is a fantastic business course to study in the university. According to Forbes, the top Degrees that produce highest billionaires in the world are Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, Law and Computer science.

With regards to OP, I will advise you to set goals for yourself. Having a university degree is not enough, you need skills and professional qualifications to get a good job in Nigeria. After graduation, some of my course mate wrote CIPM and became human resource professional, some wrote ICAN and became chartered accountant, some wrote CIS and became a chartered stockbroker, some wrote CFA and became chartered financial analyst and so on. They are all doing well in their careers. My first job was as a sales trainee at Consolidated brewery PLC in Lagos(under Heineken international) but now I own a fruit juice manufacturing factory and became an entrepreneur.

Your degree in Economics education offer you versatility and flexibility. Acquire a professional certification and skills in a career of your interest and getting a job will be easier for you. Having 2.1 is not enough.
