Lagos Bans Cart Pushers And Wheelbarrow Operators In The State by Harbdulrasaq(op): 3:43pm On Jan 13, 2018
The Lagos State Government on Saturday announced a total ban on the operations of cart pushers and wheel barrow operators in the State, saying that their activities were inimical to the environmental cleanliness in the State.

The State Government said that with the flag off of the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI), the continuous activities of cart pushers will pose a threat to the success of the initiative.

According to the state govt, investigations had also revealed that the cart pushers are responsible for most of the illegal dumping of waste in canals and road medians at night which causes flooding, adding that they were also traces of security threats.

The State Government has finalised plans to ensure that the CLI would cover every area of the State and ensure that refuse are well packed and collected, urging residents to desist from patronising them or risk prosecution.

The governor should try and provide jobs for those wheelbarrow pushers because some of them feed their families with it.

The governor should also provide saner alternatives in stead of the carts and wheelbarrows. Unfortunately, this may be misinterpreted by so many people.

Re: Lagos Bans Cart Pushers And Wheelbarrow Operators In The State by Olasco93: 6:20pm On Jan 13, 2018
That is most people source of livelihood.
Government should provide alternative means before placing a total ban on certain things.

Re: Lagos Bans Cart Pushers And Wheelbarrow Operators In The State by seankay(m): 6:20pm On Jan 13, 2018
They should have been well notified at least 3 months to the ban so that they could have ample time to create an alternative. A lot of mouths eat from that hustle and you just can't plunge them into hunger overnight.

Ok for those using it for waste disposal, I thought it was wheelbarrows and carts in general. I totally support the move, those people dump refuse anywhere anyhow.

In as much as the Governor wants the best for Lagos, he shouldn't fail to provide an alternative for those who buy stocks/go
ods that needs the services of wheelbarrows.
He'd have also given the wheelbarrow pushers some "reasonable" time to find another business.
Re: Lagos Bans Cart Pushers And Wheelbarrow Operators In The State by Mmmy(f): 6:23pm On Jan 13, 2018
Please, considering the rate at which people are losing 9-5 jobs, banning alternatives where people struggle saddens me.

I hope the state has plans to provide alternative employment as desperate people do desperate things.

However i applaud the sanitary initiative and hope it is implemented successfully.
Re: Lagos Bans Cart Pushers And Wheelbarrow Operators In The State by anyimontana(m): 6:25pm On Jan 13, 2018
