Odunayaw: Hmmnn.......? A good mortar section..... When BHT closed in on you less than 50 metres, flanked from different directions and AA rounds straying all around in the air. |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by tdayof(m): 9:16am On Jan 16, 2018 |
bidexiii: The only saviour that day could have been a proper IFV /AFV dusting out a huge fire power. The issue is bokoharam had situation awareness. To me, their first target was the shilka and once it was destroyed morale went down. Not even the US SF or Russian SOS would have made a difference with MRAPS armed with just guns. Moreover, the terrain is an open environment. There was no where to take cover. |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Stephandeswardt: 9:27am On Jan 16, 2018 |
tdayof: The shilka and the 73mm gun....which has more potential? A single sweep from the shilka would have done a lot....the troops didnt even manouver, they just left equipment, i think the crash site was bombed by our jets.... We dont arm our mraps with gpmgs again in the north east,we use HMGs.. They should have divided the bh...into sections, distrubted weapons and men so each section can engage the section carved out Looking at BH body language....initially they were jittery, the lack of resistance emboldened them. 1 Like |

Stephandeswardt: The shilka could have wiped them from a far distance. Here's the problem. The guys on ground do not even know what's going on around them. They only know we have approaching bokoharam. No idea of the type of weapons they field or the direction they're coming from. Bokoharam got so close up to 50M and launched the 73mm on their position and to me, their main target was the shilka and once it was destroyed, the military had no other option. For bokoharam to have assembled in that huge number then the guys performing ISR are missing something. Here is it Bokoharam will only attack villages or military post. Now, ISR should be conducted on own troops locations 20km within and then trust me you'll find these guys hideout. Don't just go flying around looking for bokoharam. You can get them in their large numbers around troops locations. |

I must confess, that drone video on our troops is very depressing. All BH need is a good intel officer and they can take out ALL the troops at that position. Truth must be told. We are simply not doing enough, even with the asset we currently have. Too many strategic failures always hand victory to BHT on a platter. A cheap 500 USD drone is being used to devastating effect by BHT while our politicians want billions and cap in hand begging for this jet and that helo. |

tdayof: Bh started shooting from at least 1km away....they only used tge 73mm from about 500 to 400m......and the accuracy of that 73mm on that hilux is very bad....rate of fire is what, 2 rounds a minutes? s The men on ground messed up....they heard boom and panicked ,they didnt want to fight, they just wanted to pick survivors and move....but am thinking also the burnt ewuipment were from another engagement.....one major reason the camo scheme on the shilka |

Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by bidexiii: 10:16am On Jan 16, 2018 |
tdayof: Honestly reading through peoples reaction and comments... Mortar is totally ruled out of these scenario. you want to use mortar when you are been flankd in all directions, against moving AAG. two options were available for ground troops to salvage this situation. 1- had it been they were the first to detect the presence of the enemy they would av taking advantage of the shilka and other powerful guns they have or use IFV to confront attacking enemy, which we don't have. The IFV has these two adavntage anyday/anytime; fire power and ammor strength. and till now BHT has not lay there hands on ATGM. 2-the presence of air assets, BHT would never attempt to advance if there are attcking aircrafts in the sky. they know it would be a bad day for them. Even with the tin gap between ground troops and attacking enemy, hey will rather retreat and abandon there mission. |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by tdayof(m): 10:43am On Jan 16, 2018 |
bidexiii: No, I meant something like. That definitely wasn't bokoharam strong hold. To me, the units on ground probably requested for air backup immediately they noticed movements from bokoharam. ISR was performed and then air backup was sent it but unfortunately a helicopter crashed which changed the mission. My issue is prior to that, that's a very large number of bokoharam, they should have been detected before getting close to our own troops. 1 Like |

tdayof: Hmmmmm ..... ? Probably the air bombardment happened early in the day and in the afternoon BH attacked, in that way an ISR wouldn't have spotted BH advance. Yet a lot went wrong with the mission to salvage the mi17. |

tdayof: From where I come half of the tango's r located tracked identified and eliminated becz of utilization of such resources . They r an integral asset for COIN In fact we have what u can call as the world's first dedicated and operationally in use LIC (low intensity conflict) EW system. I posted about them in the technical thread previously A pic to highlight the capabilities ,this is not the end all system, many other different systems exists both on ground air and in space operated by multiple agencies There was a time when calls made over VoIP gave us headache only the CIA and mossad had the capability to intercept them , with some help we managed to develop the necessary technology

bidexiii:Toh. You chose to single out that post when i have made a chapter of questions to get what happened. Proper situation awareness would have warned any commander on the ground beforehand of the oncoming imps. MGLs/AGLs nko, that one no dey? How many air runs would any fast jet have to take to dissuade enemies in your own words "in different directions" |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Nobody: 1:08pm On Jan 16, 2018 |
Odunayaw:NA tried MGLs, minimums and I think dumped them, perhaps ammo is too expensive per gun or maintenance costs Personally I think they should give it another try but from a more reliable manufacture. I know NNSBS uses them in the NE, pic 3

Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by tdayof(m): 2:45pm On Jan 16, 2018 |
BruncleZuma: Yes it should. Moreover, I'm thinking about ESM ( Electronic support measure) . The technology can be deployed to cover over up to 80KM depending on how design/technology allows. area so let say 5-10 units or this are being deployed to some strategic places in the north east to cover up to 400KM in total at minimum. The systems will be capable of analyzing Every single network that moves in the NE. Capable of intercepting any listening to every cell calls made Capable of intercepting any walkie talkie communications that doesn't belong to the military. There's a guy in Nigeria that runs a security firm. He's been able to wiretap mobile phones and turn the phone microphone into a mobile listening device. He's a Nigerian and a cyber and electronic warfare expert. I met him during a symposium organized by AOC. So I feel the following capabilities will go a very long way in dealing with bokoharam till they start communicating with paper. As a cyber warfare specialist, his organizations will also be capable of doing some stuffs I wouldn't want to mention here. There are solutions that can be offered to the military but only if they're willing to try it out. Cc: nemesis4u, Odunayaw bidexii |
