The Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan (APC, Yobe), yesterday, protested a remark made by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (PDP, Abia) during plenary advising the senate to impeach the president if he refuses to act.

Abaribe had while seconding a bill tagged, “An Act to Prescribe Punishment for Acts and Conducts that are Undemocratic by Elected Officials”, sponsored by the Deputy Senate Leader, Bala Ibn Na’Allah, said if the president refused to act, he should be impeached.

“When you choose in an election, you must be able to accept the consequence of that choice you have made. Nigerians chose APC, they must live with the consequence of that,” he said.

“Nobody can wake up now and tell us, like my friend wants to tell us, that some people are undemocratic…I think the problem of Ibn Na’Allah, our very good friend, is that the executive today refuse to act when they need to act for consequences of what the people do.

“The penalty is there in the constitution. If a president refuses to act, then impeach him; there is no other thing you need to do,” Abaribe said.

But Lawan interjected by raising a point of order, saying Abaribe had veered off completely from the subject matter and in a way cast aspersion on the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the president.

“I believe he should withdraw it (statement) and continue to remain on track,” he said.

Responding, Saraki said Abaribe had completely gone off the subject matter and cautioned him.

But Abaribe continued by saying, “Let me withdraw that of the president and say any governor that leaves his responsibility should be impeached.”

When Abaribe started talking about Tuesday’s press statement issued by a former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, on President Muhammadu Buhari, Saraki stopped him saying, “I will play the role of the leader and the senate president.”

Na’Allah had while leading the debate on the bill, described the draft law as “a sunset approach” to address the myriad of problems currently bedevilling the country’s political atmosphere.

“It is intended to provide the atmosphere that would promote and sustain our democratic development,” he said.

And the only sane voice in the Senate is put down because of the enormous blackmail evidence against the majority!

it's clearly written in the constitution....when any elected office holder fails to act he should face impeachment. Why is that of Buhari different?
is he not a failure?

The NASS is not afraid of anyone except God.

They just don't want to disgrace Buhari with Impeachment now.

Buhari should appreciate this, by using OBJ's letter as Escape Ticket to resign honourably.

I can't see where Abaribe tried to cast aspersions on the FG in his remarks.

What are they afraid of?

Is impeachment of non-performing president not constitutional?

They must have skeleton in their cupboard that they are trying to hide and secure reelection.

NIGERIANS, REPLACE THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR VOTES. They are not representing your interest.

Buhari is a disaster that was enthroned out of ethnoreligious hate for Jonathan just because he never hated the Igbos as expected by Afonjas.

Buhari will continue till 2023 so that Afonjas will know their real enemies.

The collosal failure is known to arrest and silence his perceived political enemies. So anyone contemplating his impeachment must be on a suicide mission.

How you go impeach wetin you no install, 2019 would decide who to impeach, whether it is the President or the Sinators. This guys never see anything, by the time we go to poll in 2019, they go no say no be likes and shares on nairaland they win election. Millions of Buhari supporters don't have access to social media.

I laugh at people who think that their votes will count in 2019.

Obasanjo has entered Buhari's death book.

I won't be surprised if the Caliphate assassinates Obasanjo.

Buhari will stop at nothing to enthrone his evil agenda.

So Abaribe got intimidated and he withdrew his statement on Buhari's impeachment and redirects them to governors!!!!.....

Shithole sin'ators!!!!!!!!!!!

So no one's allow to appeal for Buhari's impeachment at the senate.... How then will it be possible for the senate to attend to issues like restructuring when vital cases like impeaching a null functioning president can't be addressed!!!

Shithole country!!!

Assasinate ko urinate ni...the dullard will be sent back to daura in 2019. It's either that or civil crisis. As for Obasanjo, am sure he's seen things in life that you only read in novels and story books, he definitely knows his enemies and chooses his fights carefully.

More attention needs to be focused on the legislative arm of Government. These guys are just collecting salaries, allowances n sipping our wealth.

Because his prophecy of dogs and baboons drowning in blood will finally come to pass...how do u explain impeachment to the average man hausa in kano Or katsina?

We will wait patiently till 2019, it's just around the corner.
