Good Afternon Guys, this is my first thread since 2015 when I joined this platform.
I'm so sad and this is what happened; hubby bought a dog around November at less than 3 months old. I detest dogs to the extent that I nursed the back pain I sustained as a result of poor posture I assumed when I went with him to pick the dog.
He orientated me about dogs and how I will get to love "Bobby" if I show interest in its care which I did.
From that moment, I started bathing, shopping, feeding, packing its stool/litters. I practically fell in Love with this dog and if bobby sees me coming from work, he's always excited.
However, we got a veternary doctor to take care of him including vaccination and treatment. We fed him like their is no tomorrow, canned food (jojo and pedigree), chicken from a friend doing Sharwama and dog feeds all recommended by the vet doctor.
So, last week friday we noticed he was not eating well and we called the vet cos we wanted to travel and he said he will come for him , treat the dog and keep till we are back (boarding), we will just pay him for the services.
Fastforward to last week sunday, he sent text that the dog is dead plus a picture of gastric content which I wouldnt know if its our dog or not. Please, do dogs just die like that? Also, what has he been treating him for monthly which we paid?
I DONT JUST UNDERSTAND. THIS REALLY HURTS.

I am so sorry. Dogs are not supposed to die like that under a vets care, but young animals can die very easily. Pls upload the picture of the stomach contents. Are they things that the dog could have eaten?

From the pics its obviously Parvo,nothing else parvo kills withing days and smtimes parvo will allow u spend on treatment and after dat still kills the pup

So he sent picture of gastric content but he forgot to snap the dead dog. How can you tell if the gastric content actually comes from your dog?

Tnx for this. I didn’t mention the pics of the dead dog because I couldn’t imagine that he wouldn’t have sent it.

If thats truly from your dog, it definitely is Parvo... Parvo is severe in puppies and kills within 24 to 72hours... Its a viral disease so it doesn't have a cure, can only be managed... My two dogs have gone down with parvo one time or the other and they are better for it now cause i believe they are immune to it for now... Early detection and treatment is key, if u notice ur dog has not eaten for a day, lethargic, and hiding. Contact your vet fast... Lastly, d owners love also helps keep d dog going, during those hard days and nights, i sit with my dog and say encouraging things to them, i even promised my puppy a fantastic day out if it survives, it survived but i am yet to keep to my promise... A good Vet is mostly d difference between life and death of our dear pets

Oh, this sounds serious. Do you mean vaccine cant prevent this?

Vaccines should, I vaccinated my dogs but they still came down with it... Most times, owners and vets vaccinate too early thereby making d vaccine useless... You welcome

The issues of vaccinating ur dog and your dog will still contact poavo is by using fake vaccine. Wen u use fake vaccine on ur dog simply means uve not vaccinate ur dog and ur dog is prone to the deadly disease China has produced soo many fake vaccine. However beware and don't use this vaccine called (PROVAC).

There are times the vaccine may not be fake but was not handled properly. it's possible it was kept out of the cold temperature required thereby killing the virus before it was administered.

Yeah true, but I don't think I will keep my dog with a vet and travel.
Reason is that, every sick dogs visit the vet and disease can be spread easily.

No update yet? Whats the sitrep of ur dog? Did the vet send a pic or report yet?

Good Evening everyone, we summoned the Vet today. He came, explained and showed us picture, we decided to let it go. He did apologise and felt very sorry. My hubby is actually a nice and calm person, and he also met me in a right mood.

I guess today is his lucky day though. Thanks everyone for contributing in one way or the other.

Hi allymarry89, I hope this sad episode have not deterred you and your hubby from getting another dog in the near future, sorry about your ordeal, some people see pets as mere animal, but those of us that have them know this is not true, they are an integral part of our families..

Not all vet knows how to treat Parvo ND d few dt know sometimes hoard d info.

Plus Parvo treatment should begin at early stage, wen one notices a pup decline in eating ND being lethargic, always call Ur vet, no issues should be taken lightly

We hope to get one sometimes this year , but for now, I dont think I want any heartbreak from losing any dog like Bobbie.

Parvo treatment is quite basic but is relatively stressful and costly.

Parvo causes haemorrhagic fever....very similar to Ebola in humans. Quick intervention is very crucial in increasing survival chances.

Now about the vaccines, there has been increased cases of vaccine failure. Some of us in the field suspect there might be a new HV parvo strain in circulation. Also, the processes of clearing vaccines coming into the country....

The vaccines produced locally by VOM used to be very good but like all things Nigerian, dem don run down. Ideally, they are the ones to investigate this latest increased prevalence of parvoviral enteritis.

ive witnessed some one buy a puppy at the age of a month +. A 70% rott...the dog never took any vaccine watsoever apart for being dewormed.the dog grew to the maximum height weight etc.3yrs now.healthy!
