Anyone thinking of going into healthcare or retraining in healthcare should consider careers like Psychiatrist Nursing. There is going to be an high demand for RPNs in the future. Of course, there would be an increased demand for some allied health worker too. This is due to the pot legalization coming into effect in July. Studies have proved that 1 in 7 teenagers who start using cannabis will develop cannabis-use disorder. There is also evidence that heavy use of cannabis can lead to psychosis. The minimum age to purchase Pot that would come into effect in some provinces are Alberta: 18, BC: 21, Quebec: 19, Sask: 21. I don't have information about other provinces.

Those people offering free rental to females have ulterior motives. I won't advise a new immigrant who is tryna find their bearing to take up any of these offers.

Anyway, this one you're asking where in Mississauga, you don dey look for better half? grin

Ulterior motives? Like using her for rituals? My point was that it is seemingly easier to find a place for females.

Better half? Thanks for asking. Yes I am looking.

I think I know why she made that statement. There have been reported cases of landlords demanding sex for free rent in BC. So many pervs out there. I do not know about other provinces though. One has to be careful with freebies.

Oga Salford, thanks for shedding light on her statement. God bless you.
This is educative. Fellow Nairalanders need to be aware of such dangers.

A friend of mine shared her experience when she was a student, she called one of those 'free for ladies' ads and they told her point blank that they don't need her to pay that all she will need to do is grant them sexual favors. So yes it's not a no strings attached deal most times.

Interesting! I havent even come across such a freebie ad yet in my case, but its definitely worth being on the look out for such. For some reason, the landlords ive met so far don't seem too keen on renting out to me, a newbie in Canada. Its just unexpected, the reactions ive gotten so far on this but I believe it will work out and very well too. Thanks

Who said they would not admit them? The universities? If that's the case, they must have provided reasons for their stance. An admission refusal at the doctoral level could be for a variety of reasons. A major one being if one does not possess a thesis or research based Masters degree. Some schools would then recommend a second Masters by research degree as a prerequisite to admission into the doctorate program. However, before deciding on a course of action, it may behoove them to shop around and see if they can still find takers as different universities have different requirements and varying degrees of leniency.

For doctoral programs, admission processes at various universities will differ however, they usually follow the same rough guidelines below:
1.) Identify a school; read extensively about the school to ensure it is a good fit for you.
2.) Study their admission requirements to ensure your qualifications are a total or close match.
3.) Develop a research proposal or question and approach the supervisors (lecturers who have delegated supervisory roles) whose research interests are in alignment with your research proposal. Secure a supervisor who is willing to walk the often arduous road that is academia at the doctoral level.
4.) Apply for admission on the basis that you meet the stated requirements and have obtained a research supervisor at the university. Also, having published papers or works in respected journals will immensely help your case along.
5.) Wait for the admission decision.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot. I think no 3 is the problem. Getting a supervisor for the research proposal. How do you get to know the superrvisor's area of interest. Do they have to visit the school and discuss with the supervisor before writing their proposals?

One is already pursuing her doctorate degree at UNILAG but wants to relocate. Both did thesis based masters.

On webpages of schools, most professors would mention their areas of interest and contact details. Some would even give a brief summary of the current research they are working on. Prospective doctoral students approach lots of professor to maximize their chances. It is very similar to searching for a job since this positions are competitive. Some would not reply emails, some would not take students from outside the country, some prefer students from their home countries (they won't mention this though), some would gladly accept the student if they like the applicant's previous academic work and grades etc.

Loll....sorry no gist yet o.

I left Naija just before Christmas but i'm still on the road. I never land in Canny. Only issue was when I landed Yankee and they took me to one corner and started drilling me. You know Trump has told them to raise alarm when it's a Naija landing especially if you're travelling alone and it was now one way ticket to make matters worse. It was a serious thing o but my COPR and ticket to Canny cleared all doubts.

In the meantime, I've been applying online. I used freetone to get a Canadian number and I've had a few phone interviews.

I'd sure update when I land.

All the best

I am planning to do something like this

Happy New Year .
Congratulations on your triplets
Please can you help me with information for good hospital and doctor in USA who accepts triplet birth .
Doctors I have contacted has rejected .
Thanks

Nogen:

Thanks. We used a twin stroller and managed with that. It was extremely difficult to buy a triplet stroller. But you still have time. Quickly order for one through amazon and get it sent to you from any relative or shipper in the US or Canada . In 2 or 3 weeks, you will have it.

@Salford1, freeradical, vcole et al

Kindly help with your thoughts on settling and living in either of these Alberta cities:

Calgary OR Edmonton

Which of these two will you easily choose above the other if your situation is as below:

Accountant/HR job seeking couple
With kids.

In terms of kids' school, decently priced accommodation, decently priced utilities, community safety generally(less community gangstarism), decently priced groceries, general social outlooks of both.

Thank you all in advance!

It will end in praise IJN!

Hey @Wura27... Did you purchase you US one way ticket directly from an airline?

Been considering this for my family and been doubting we would be allowed to purchase a one way ticket.

Also, please tell your friend not to mention the bolded in his/her correspondence with potential supervisors...it will raise a red flag that he/she could also quit, if granted admission, when things get rough (it usually does at some point during a doctoral program). Apart from that, I think they'll be fine. In addition to @Salford1's contribution above, they only need to look through the websites of schools they are interested in (Canada doesn't have a lot, so that reduces the volume of work), and contact potential supervisors with their draft proposal (approx 3000-4000 words, max 5000words should be sufficient at this point as they might have to still revise it when they find an interested supervisor). In my experience, I believe the proposal is the real work (Literature review and methodology in particular)...most professors wouldn't reject a well-written proposal on a good topic, if they think the student has great potential.

@maziude would also be able to shed more light as it relates to Canada specifically. I think he's a doctoral student in Ottawa.

I filled a 2nd form in case the bank asked question when I wanna deposit it.

I am overjoyed by the turn of events today. The blunt ones are now aware that most people can also be blunt, insensitive and downright disrespectful if they choose. That people aren't parading the earth mouthing off at others is not because they can't, but because they consciously choose to filter their utterances and conduct themselves in a self-respecting way. I hope those claiming they cannot help their thoughtless outbursts will speak or write to the CEO at work in the same manner, that is when I will know that truly, their village people don open permanent site on top their head.

Ppl sit beside me all the time even when i have my bag on the empty seat beside me, they have asked if I could move it so they can sit. However, ppl stand all the time. I choose to stand a lot in transit even when the train is empty or bus. On the flip side, I have opted to stand up when 2 persons who speak the same language are beside me and are in conversation a bit loudly mostly because I feel uncomfortable when that happens.

Thanks @salford1 and @tamm. I await @maziude's response before i refer them to the pages of this thread that dealt with their issue.

This place is some kind of wikipedia. The only thing lacking in some is decorum in responding to enquiries. I dont know how you will feel when you unmask the person behind the moniker and find out it's an old friend you have been rude to all these while. Do you read your post before hitting the submit button? Do you ask yourself how would i feel if someone responded to me in same manner?

Abeg let me come and be going before they pounce on me.

they should look at the Canadian student visa thread. I bet there are loads of info there. Also Google typing in "contacting prospective supervisors in Canada" would also be a useful resource. I think the most important advice you should give them is to encourage them to be proactive with their independent search seeing as they intend to pursue a doctorate; foundation of which is research.
