Your chances of getting a visa is very remote even with a letter from your friend because..

You will find it difficult to convince the embassy that your friend is willing to allow you to use his money for your Ph.D. program. You don't present bank statement for the seek of it, you present a bank statement stating that the money in that account will be available for your use in SA.

So the question here is..is your friend sponsoring your Ph.D program? If yes then why will he spend thousands on your education?

I have enough money in my account. I don't just have the cashflow. How about my friend claiming relationship (as a cousin) with me in the letter. Would any proof to substantiate the claim be required?

Thanks @justwise I see your work on Canny thread. Respect bros!

Cash flow means jack, if you have the money and can defend the source then use it. Your friend claiming cousin is illegal and I wouldn’t support such.

That is not true, you can't just take bank statement from anybody for visa application.
As far SA embassy is concern anyone can give you bank statement but he or she will write a letter to support your application .More importantly Id card or passport data page attached . Anyone in this context means friends or family members or business partner can give u letter and bank statement . I speak from experience .

Also endeavor to ask your sponsor to provide bank reference letter for you from his bank.

I wouldn’t put my trust on your experience regarding this issue.

I can understand the case of a family member being a sponsor but to say that anybody can supply bank statement for visa application is misleading.

I do not expect you to put your trust on my experience on this matter . However , I can count more than 10 applicants on this forum who used close friends as sponsor and visas were issued . Any one with genuine source of income can act as sponsor as far SA Embassy is concern . So far the documents are not fraudulent .

VFS can't help, it's out of their range now, but SA embassy can. They do have reachable numbers but still it's to no end as they'll tell you it's still under processing.

Keep communicating to the course coordinator and HOD that you're still attending. Also let the international office at wits be aware. The most important thing is to meet the deadline of registration. If it's a research and coursework degree you need not worry, just chill and get your permit, you can always do makeup or defer the first few modules.

Did you receive sms after submission? if yes you should expect collection sms. Even some applicants who submitted for study visa on the 16th have gotten their permit.

Okay. Try to track it online with your reference number and date of birth. If it is ready for collection you will see it there.

Try that first before deciding to pay vfs a visit.

Goodluck!

You have to get at least a year of medical cover and you can't have it without paying, it is one of the prerequisites for visa.

Picked up my student permit today. Took exactly 2weeks and one day.
Did the entire processing myself using info from this thread.
Thanks to all those who asked questions, and more importantly, all the ones that took time to answer.
Blesssss.
