Am really impressed. The guy has got guts. That this bid failed is more a lesson. He did well in trying. Moreover it definitely has exposed him to workings of doing deals on the global stage. Definitely in later times, he will definitely achieve big deals and go places. This is the kind of news we are supposed to be hearing from some of this rich kids. Thereby inspiring those of us who are entrepreneurs to aspire for higher strides. Kudos to paddy, I throw way salute for you. Never knew you were this ambitious. Kudos man |

Finally, Nairaland has front-paged this epic business deal journey. I enjoyed it when I read it first on YabaLeftOnline. Paddy is a good story teller; made the article captivating. Imagine going for a meeting and stopping by to admire nature? Snow melting? Imagine if it's turned into a movie? Kudos to him! |

tiredoflife:The upper part of my post wasn't meant for you. I even posted before you commented. The one below your quote was for you to read the full script and get to understand the happenings. He wasn't even staying in Nigeria when he conceived the idea. Read below, his convo with the said friend, Remi. I called Remi and told him that I was back in Lagos. He invited me over to his palatial and modern home. He liked my Lion’s head insignia that I had stitched onto the pocket of my native Nigerian kaftan. We sat down for hours and talked business and politics. Then Remi asked me what was I doing in London all that time, away from the family business. I was happy to tell him about Chevron Netherlands at this point, the deal was done and over. Remi looked at me in astonishment, “You mean you took on a whole Chevron, with no noise, no fanfare and none of us knew? Ahh bros you try!” We laughed it off. Remi then revealed the biggest bombshell of my Chevron Netherlands adventure. The managing director of Petrogas of Oman was a close friend of his and he knew he was bidding for Chevron Netherlands at the time. If I had told him what I was up to when we saw in London, whilst I was searching for the last bidder, he would have introduced us. I was blown away. There it was that whole time. That mystery last bidder that I had searched so hard for was there for my taking and it passed right by me. I went back home that night and made myself the strongest drink. History couldn’t tell this story. I would have to. |

The major difference between Edgar and the rest of the team was that Edgar was willing to ask the one question that makes the difference and then tailors his arguments accordingly. "How much are you willing to offer for this trojan horse considering the visions attached to it?" Overall, Paddy put up a nice team which advised accordingly based on observable facts. This is what Harvard teaches. Paddy seems unserious cos he would have moved on to other deals if truly his vision is sustainable. Every serious business minded individual needs to build a team that comprises of an accountant, lawyer, philosopher/psychologist and then the rest. |

tiredoflife:The part where he did not tell Remi and it later turned out that Remi would have been of great help to him was the saddest. That is where the biggest lesson from the story lies for most Nigerians (Yorubas especially). In this part of the world, we always believe it is best to be secretive about what we are up to. We feel most people around us may end up working against us if they know about progressive projects that we are working on. This is not always true. I am also guilty of this kind of behavior so i really connected when i read the story. For me going forward, i will be cautiously more open to people around me about my challenges and projects. You never can tell who holds the key to that door that you are seriously seeking to open. |
