The Chairman, Nigerian Union of Local Government Employee (NULGE), Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun state, Tajudeen Alabi was on Thursday burnt to death when fire razed shops in Odeyinka road Ikire.

Amiloaded Correspondent gathered that the NULGE Chairman, was killed when fire engulfed three shops located at Odeyinka road, Oteyemi area, Ikire.

Alabi was said to have died immediately after the fire incident while his belongings, worth millions of naira were destroyed.

A resident, who identified himself as Yinka said the fire started around 1am, following what he called “power surge”.

He said: “We were all asleep when they brought light around 1am yesterday morning. We heard people screaming and shouting for help, but the locked shops and the deceased’s house hindered us from getting close to the scene.

We initially thought it was something else but when we saw smoke, we forced the door open and boys in the area poured water to quench the fire.

Speaking on the incident, former Executive Secretary, Ayedaadr Local Government, Honourable Oduwole Basiru Iyanda described the incident as unfortunate.

He described the late NULGE Chairman as nice, loving and jovial.

He however charged people of the state on the need to always be cautious of fire, saying they should be mindful of their electrical appliances

Besides this could be a scientific way of clearing someone without raising eyebrows, how was it established that it was a power surge, cos it could be arson after all he is a chairman and would have those eyeing his post cry

Fellow nairanders to God who made am one of the victim during the accident am living in fatima and the incident happend for Ako not far to my house at all the deceased have recently drank poison by him before this bad incident yesterday after he returned from the hospital and he initially set himself ablaze inside one of his three shops attached to his house to be sincere my people they curse on the man because the man killed himself and we found out that he was just instored as the nulge chairman recently among many contestant but now elderly people have carried out some consultation about him and we heard they cursed on him to do such things to himself because he set himself ablaze by putting a motor tyre on his neck.
