Stop that! If you own a car and you pay 300 naira x 2, in order to pass through the Lekki-Ikoyi toll gate every day, won't it add up to something substantial, at the end of the year? And there are 2 toll gates on either side of Lekki Phase 1. The 1st one is right on the road that leads to Victoria Island, and the 2nd one is on the bridge that leads to Ikoyi. Either way you must pass one or both at least twice a day, if you live or work inside Lekki.

Why didn't they put those same toll gates at Apapa, Ikeja, Ilupeju, Gbagada, Surulere, Yaba, Ebute Metta, Magodo, Eko Atlantic, Epe or even inside Old Ikoyi itself? Dem talk say na only Lekki people dem fit exploit?

The other part that is truly annoying, is the hopeless traffic jam that has bedevilled both toll gates. To ascend or descend the Lekki-Ikoyi bridge, you cannot help but spend 30 - 45 minutes in traffic every single day, before you get to the toll-gate. The same thing goes for the V/I end. It is a classic case of suffering and smiling. Were these toll-gates created to make life difficult for people in that area? Na wetin?

Nigerians, lagosians especially need to embrace carpooling. Sometimes in that same traffic you'll see hundreds of cars with single occupants. Truth is the volume of cars is just unbelievable sometimes.

On the other hand one will expect toll gate fare would be cheap as the cars passing that route are much. Alas, we are hearing of an increment. Incredible

They increased the toll fees from N250 to N300 for salon cars and N300 to N400 for SUVs.

Traffic.

No movement.

Motorists complaining.

I came out of my Taxify and walked to the toll gates.

Others were doing same.

You did not even mention the fact, that part of what caused the gridlock on the alternative route, is the poor state of that road - too many craters, bumps and uneven surfaces. Coupled with the fact that the road, is simply too narrow and it is just one single route that serves people from several other communities, who have to go through that area, to reach other parts of Victoria Island or Lekki peninsula!

If some people in Lekki Phase 1 can even afford to pay the toll fare, what about those coming from Igbo-Efon, Sangotedo, Ajah, Badore, Awoyaya, Lakowe, Ogombo, Eputu, Oribanwa, Langbasa, Shapati, Bogije, Eleko etc., and all those smaller towns dotted across the Lekki Peninsula? Will you make the payment on their behalf, at the toll gate?

Oga, may God increase the wisdom He has placed in your life! Even the Lekki-Ikoyi bridge was paid up with tax payers money! That was why that city lawyer, Ebun Adegboruwa took them to court, and insisted that the toll should be dropped since the bridge was already fully paid for! It was not concessioned, during construction!

I support the increase. In real terms, the amount they were charging had gone down due to the loss of almost 50% of the Naira's value. An increase was just reasonable.

Nigerians should start learning to pay the full cost of utilities and services either through direct charges or indirectly through indirect taxation such as petrol tax etc

Unless people are ready to pay, they should not whine about poor infrastructure

Instead of resolving that problem, you then decide to increase the toll fees! After just 5 days notice...

The increment in tolls is NOT to build additional infrastructure, or raise revenue for development. It is to enable the govt's cronies LCC, meet the debt obligation, they claim to have incurred on that road. And everyone is saying that govt spent billions to buy back the concession from LCCI, so which debt are they still talking of servicing, which has led them to increase prices? Nigerians have been tightening their belts for years, but this insensitive state govt is bent on making their bodies snap into bits, due to hardship they keep inflicting on a daily basis....

That's where the problem lies. The government itself hasn't made themselves to be trusted enough though. Else, if truly they incurred a huge debt that needs to be repaid or recovered the increment is justifiable.
My point is, you know even on some African countries where they enjoy good amenities, the citizens pay heavily for it. Same thing in developed countries. The sad part is the decadence in our morals and values couldn't make anyone to be trusted any longer. Hence one can't be too sure if truly the money won't be diverted.
