There's a difference between a thief, and an armed robbers. The guy you recognized might not be been among those who stole the car. Maybe he was in for a cruise. Of course Sha, as a Gboy, he is a thief all the same... |

NAVY BARRACKS CENTRAL MOSQUE, EFFURUN, WARRI, DELTA STATE FRIDAY SERMON FOR 2nd FEBRUARY, 2018 Delivered by WO TINAU AT WARNING AGAINST PRIDE AND ARROGANCE In the Name of Allah Most Gracious Most Merciful Thanks be to Allah (SWT) the Most High, the Lord of the heaven and the earth including whatever is obtainable in-between them. Glory be to Him; He made pride and arrogance the signs of disgrace and humiliation in this life and the next and He says in the Hereafter, the destination of the arrogant is surely the Hell. He Alone is to be worshipped without partner(s), and our leader Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is His Messenger. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon the Prophet, his family, companions and each one of us. Brothers and sisters in Islam! Allah has designed the nature of life in such a way that some people are placed above others; some are having smooth life while some have to struggle on daily basis, some are born with silver spoon in their mouths while so many others don’t even know what a spoon is, some are placed in high positions and some are made to serve below others; all these are not scales upon which we determine the fortune or misfortune of people, rather, we are expected to know that our individual differences and positions in life are only trials for us and we are expected to learn from our trials. Unfortunately, a lot of people who find themselves at advantageous positions are so proud and arrogant despite Allah’s warning against that. Different people have different ways of being arrogant either knowingly or unknowingly and this behavior affects their relationship with Allah and with other people. So today’s sermon is going to highlight the causes, the consequences and remedies for pride and arrogance among people. The Prophet (SAW) was reported to have said: ‘He who has an atom-size of arrogance in his heart will not enter Paradise.’(Muslim) Whoever has a feeling of pride and arrogance, it is a clear evidence that in the Sight of Allah, he is among the rejected, those that would suffer humiliation. On the other hand, whoever takes life so simple and humbles himself before others, it is not a sign of weakness in him, but rather an indication of greatness and elevation before Allah. Pride is an attribute of Allah and whoever compete with Him in any of His attributes will surely not succeed. By simple definition, pride means refusal to make use of the truth out of self-esteem while arrogance is looking down on people and they go hand in hand. You can be able to identify a proud and arrogant person through a number of other ways: The person who walks majestically as if he is too heavy for the earth and those who cannot walk a distance except if accompanied by people even when they are not facing any security challenge. All these are arrogant, including him who find it difficult to talk to people (even to say the Salam), unless if they talk to him first, probably because he feels he is by all standard superior to them. So is the person who see others and then pretend he did not see them, may be because they are not important. The same thing with those who shout unnecessarily at others, especially those working under them with the view to instill fear into them without sanctions of the law. Concerning all these attitudes Allah says: وَلَا تَمْشِ فِي الْأَرْضِ مَرَحًا إِنَّكَ لَنْ تَخْرِقَ الْأَرْضَ وَلَنْ تَبْلُغَ الْجِبَالَ طُولًا “And walk not on the earth with conceit and arrogance. Verily, you can neither tear the earth, nor can you attain a stature like the mountains in height.” (17: 37) He also says: وَلَا تُصَعِّرْ خَدَّكَ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَمْشِ فِي الْأَرْضِ مَرَحًا إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ مُخْتَالٍ فَخُورٍ وَاقْصِدْ فِي مَشْيِكَ وَاغْضُضْ مِنْ صَوْتِكَ إِنَّ أَنْكَرَ الْأَصْوَاتِ لَصَوْتُ الْحَمِيرِ “And turn not your face away from people with pride, nor walk in insolence through the earth. Verily, Allah likes not each arrogant boaster. And be moderate in your walking, and lower your voice. Verily, the harshest of all voices is the voice (braying) of a donkey.” (31: 18 – 19) (ii) Some people would not visit the houses of others because they are not supposed to be seen there because of their status; they believe they are the ones to be visited. They have forgotten that the Prophet (SAW) was the most important human being on earth and he used to visit the houses of the most ordinary among his people. Even this his simplicity did not earn him everlasting life. So calm down and be humble, though even if you are, you will not live forever and some people will still accuse you of something else, but all the same, be humble. (iii)Some people cannot carry their personal belongings and walk for a little distance no matter how light the items may be, even mobile phones; someone would have to carry it for them. This is a form of pride. Between the sins you commit and your personal items which one is heavier? If you agree that no one can carry your sins no matter how heavy they are, then you are just deceiving yourself if you say someone must carry your petty items such as hand bags and cell phones. (iv) You are indeed proud and arrogant if you encroach into the rights of others in any way, without justification, especially when you know such people are too powerless to confront you or seek redress against you. (v) You can be said to be proud and arrogant if you refuse to offer service/assistance to someone, knowing fully well that such services are needed, and you are capable of offering it, until when you are begged or pleaded with, whether or not you are primarily employed to offer such services. A good and humble Muslim does not wait until his brother come begging before he can assist him; he is the one who always do what is needful. (vi) You are clearly proud and arrogant if you look down on people who are not in the same social class with you, not minding whether they are better blessed in other areas of life: This was the attitude of the Jews during the time of Prophet Isma’il (AS): وَقَالَ لَهُمْ نَبِيُّهُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ بَعَثَ لَكُمْ طَالُوتَ مَلِكًا قَالُوا أَنَّى يَكُونُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ عَلَيْنَا وَنَحْنُ أَحَقُّ بِالْمُلْكِ مِنْهُ وَلَمْ يُؤْتَ سَعَةً مِنَ الْمَالِ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ اصْطَفَاهُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَزَادَهُ بَسْطَةً فِي الْعِلْمِ وَالْجِسْمِ وَاللَّهُ يُؤْتِي مُلْكَهُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَاللَّهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ “And their Prophet said to them: ‘Indeed Allah has appointed Talut as a king over you’. They said, ‘How can he be a king over us when we are better fitted than him for the kingdom, and he has not been given enough wealth’. He said: ‘verily, Allah has chosen him above you and has increased him abundantly in knowledge and stature. And Allah grants His Kingdom to whom He wills. And Allah is All–Sufficient for the needs of His creatures, All–Knower.’” (2:247) Even to our Prophet (SAW) it so happened, when his people rejected his Prophet-hood and his leadership on the basis that he was a nobody among the people but a commoner; that he was not rich, he used to walk on the streets without body guards and he used to enter the market and buy his things himself (25:7 – . And for this attitude Allah cursed them and said they have gone astray, and they cannot find a (Right) path because their arrogance and insolence behaviour would not allow them to.How can man be so proud and arrogant on earth when his origin was a sperm and when he was ejaculated his parents became temporarily impure, and his end would be a corpse that would rot and decay beneath the soil and be eaten by maggots? It may not be a surprise to you if you know that there are some people who choose which mosque to pray in and which one not to, depending on how important they think their positions are, as if Allah’s blessing is not in all the mosques. We all know that there are some people who will not shake hand with others because they are of different class as if the dignity of a person is not in the heart and not in his appearance. Why should you allow class division to form artificial barrier between you and your fellow human beings when you don’t know whether they are better than you in the place of Allah? There are some people, whose feeling of pride and arrogance would not allow them to search for religious knowledge even if they don’t have the background of it because to them they are now too big or too important to do that. Such are the people to whom the houses of Paradise will be shown from afar, and it would be said to them: تِلْكَ الدَّارُ الْآَخِرَةُ نَجْعَلُهَا لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُرِيدُونَ عُلُوًّا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فَسَادًا وَالْعَاقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ “That is the home of the Hereafter, We shall assign (it only) to those who did not rebel against the truth with pride and (they did not) oppress in the land nor did (they do any) mischief (by committing crimes). And the good end is (surely) for the pious.” (28: 83) Brothers and sisters in Islam, we all know the main causes of pride and arrogance in people and we must avoid them in order to be successful: wealth – those whose wealth is making them proud and arrogant, they should remember the story of Qarun: إِنَّ قَارُونَ كَانَ مِنْ قَوْمِ مُوسَى فَبَغَى عَلَيْهِمْ وَآَتَيْنَاهُ مِنَ الْكُنُوزِ مَا إِنَّ مَفَاتِحَهُ لَتَنُوءُ بِالْعُصْبَةِ أُولِي الْقُوَّةِ إِذْ قَالَ لَهُ قَوْمُهُ لَا تَفْرَحْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الْفَرِحِينَ “Verily, Qarun was among the people of Musa, but he behaved arrogantly towards them. And We give him of the treasures, that of which the keys would have been a burden to a body of strong men. When his people said to him: ‘Do not be glad (with ungratefulness to Allah). Verily! Allah likes not those who are (ungrateful for His Favours).” (28: 76) Just like many people of his type today, Qarun was so arrogant and boastful because he thought the wealth was given to him because he was having special qualities which the others were not having. He thought he was a fortunate person and that all the poor are unfortunate human beings. So, he was destroyed along with his wealth and Allah said, can’t he see that before him, generations of people were destroyed; men who were stronger than him in might and greater in the amount of riches? Knowledge – those whose knowledge makes them to think they know everything and that any other person is ignorant, should check out the story of Bil’am bn Ba’urah, Allah said to the Prophet (SAW): وَاتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ الَّذِي آَتَيْنَاهُ آَيَاتِنَا فَانْسَلَخَ مِنْهَا فَأَتْبَعَهُ الشَّيْطَانُ فَكَانَ مِنَ الْغَاوِينَ “And recite to them the story of him to whom We gave (the knowledge of) our revelations, but he threw them away, so Shaitan followed him up, and he became of those who went astray.” (7: 175) At the end of his life, he was made to behave like dog, always rolling out his tongue in disgrace, for not using his knowledge properly. Allah said relate the stories perhaps they may reflect, because ignominy and disgrace are always the end of those who were deceived by their knowledge. Position – if it is your position in the society that makes you to be arrogant, have you so easily forgotten Prophet Suleiman (AS) who was commanding a kingdom nobody ever commanded before or after him? Someone is heading just about 3 – 5 people in his place of work and he is already feeling as if he is heading an entire kingdom. Someone may be heading a group of people, say 30, 40 or even a hundred and he is behaving as if he is ruling the nation. Even if you are heading the nation, what is so special about that spiritually? Remember Prophet Sulaiman (AS) headed a far greater kingdom than this nation and he was having absolute power over his people, all the classes of Jinns, the animals of all species and even the wind was moving by his command in the direction he wanted and Allah (SWT) said to him: هَذَا عَطَاؤُنَا فَامْنُنْ أَوْ أَمْسِكْ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ ‘This is Our gift, so spend you or withhold, no account will be asked (from you of your powers).’” (38: 35 – 39) All these did not make him proud of his position. He wasn’t looking down on anybody and he wasn’t arrogant to his people. Today, Prophet Suleiman is no more, and gone with him were all his powers. So, what makes you think that yours will last? 4. Relationship – there are some people, throughout their lives, someone influences their progress and that makes them feel proud that they have some body. Not only that, they behave rudely to people too. If you are one of them, think of what will happen to you if that person should be no more. Or better still, think of whether in the Palace of God that person can still stand for you. Fatima (RA) was the only surviving daughter of the Prophet before he died, and he once told her to ask him anything she wanted while he was alive, because on Judgement Day, her relationship with him will not save her except her deeds. And he used to say: ‘Whoever could not be saved by his deeds, then his relationship (with someone) would not be of any value to him.’ (Muslim) Beauty – those that are so handsome among men and they use their handsomeness to manipulate the hearts of women, they should know that they can never be anywhere close to Prophet Yusuf (AS). Allah says about him: فَلَمَّا رَأَيْنَهُ أَكْبَرْنَهُ وَقَطَّعْنَ أَيْدِيَهُنَّ وَقُلْنَ حَاشَ لِلَّهِ مَا هَذَا بَشَرًا إِنْ هَذَا إِلَّا مَلَكٌ كَرِيمٌ “Then when they (the women) saw him (Yusuf), they exalted him (at his beauty) and (in their astonishment) cut their hands. They said: ‘How perfect is Allah! This is not a man! This is none other than a noble angel.’” (12: 31) If you are a beautiful woman and you are conscious of your beauty so you behave to men with pride and feeling of importance, the tendency is that you would probably remain single until a time when handsome and rich men will have no need for you. You have to know that as long as there is day and night, there will come a time that your beauty will fade and whatever is it that makes you beautiful will no longer be there, so what happens when the time comes? So, do not be carried away by your handsomeness or by your beauty for these are things that can fade with the passage of time. There are some people who have nothing to show, but they are full of pride because to them, they don’t need anything from any body and they can lead their lives independent of others. And because you don’t do anything for them you also have no right to dictate how their lives would be and so they have arrogant and insolence behavior towards others. Such people are among the first set to enter Hell Fire. One of the early scholars said, ‘If you don’t know the origin of someone, just look at his attitude and you will know what stuff he is made of’. O you respected listeners! Always remember that pride and arrogance are detrimental to man, because they reduce his faith, distance him away from people and render him incapable of doing good even if he desires or unable to leave evil even if he wants to. The best advice to man therefore, in this regard, is the advice given to Qarun by his contemporaries: وَابْتَغِ فِيمَا آَتَاكَ اللَّهُ الدَّارَ الْآَخِرَةَ وَلَا تَنْسَ نَصِيبَكَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَأَحْسِنْ كَمَا أَحْسَنَ اللَّهُ إِلَيْكَ وَلَا تَبْغِ الْفَسَادَ فِي الْأَرْضِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُفْسِدِينَ “And seek, with that which Allah has bestowed on you, the home of the Hereafter, and forget not your portion of legal enjoyment in this world, and be good (to others) as Allah has been good to you, and seek not mischief in the land. Verily, Allah does not like the mischief-makers.” (28: 77) Then the advice by Allah for those who feel they have arrived. He says: And do not be proud over what you are given. And Allah does not love anyone who is arrogant and boastful (Q57: 23) May Allah clean our hearts of the dirt of pride. May He make us humble here and elevated in the Hereafter. May we see this world as a little thing in our eyes and feel the essence of Allah in our hearts. May He clear our individual and collective problems and may He touch our hearts and that of our leaders so that we’ll be doing good and not evil. 08068279145/08026837015 |

MASTERMIND04:akindidinrin, since you wouldn't put it on your car means you belong to a different class. But because your brain is paining you and you just want to argue blindly you'll still come back to talk trash I still insist 98% of those who put the sticker on their cars are G-Boys. MASTERMIND04:lol you like to subtly throw insults but you can't take it, eh? ![]() Anyway, my assertion about the car owner being a G-BOY wasn't based on the Apple logo alone. 1st, the car thieves look like an average Yahoo boy ( or a broke yahoo boy). Probably they are friend to the car owner. Notice when a call was put to the owner he said the car was stolen. Not snatched. So those guys are most likely to be the car owner's friend ( fellow G-BOY) 2nd, the car in question is Honda Crosstour. Not the car an average business man or corporate guy would buy. It's a car mostly preferred by G-BOYS . If it were a Corolla or Venza or matrix it would be a different story 3rd, the Apple logo on it sold it to me. It made me conclude that the car is most likely owned by a GEE. 4th I'm not stupid ![]() 5th sorry for the insults ![]() |
