2. God's favor!

It can be very difficult, frustrating and impossible sometimes to get good/office job in U.S without education and experience on U.S soil despite degree from Nigeria.
I saw the job advert and applied. I spent 6years in naija banking sector before coming here. I told my employer about my education and experience. To cap it all, my employer migrated from Europe as well.

During my application for this job, people around told me it's a waste of time because they have been here for years and they can tell I don't have necessary qualification for the job but I focus on God and try my luck
Thanks for this bro! I really admired your courage and trust in GOD.

I am deeply inspired by your story. Hope you will continue to guide and provide more advice and guidance for your brothers here looking to take same route you 've taken.

Wishing you GOD blessings in all your endeavour.

Thanks very bro, I will always try my best to assist and give advice for people who have it in mind to come over here. Though coming to U.S may be difficult task but the stress and risk can never be compare to benefits.

To all aspiring immigrant, keep the hope high and never let your morale down due to rejection or denial.

If you can imagine it, you can achieve it!

Hi guys, It feels good to be part of this wonderful forum. Just my simple way of giving back to the forum since 2009.I moved to Chicago, U.S about a year ago. A bit difficult to settle down but all glory to God. I live and work here in Chicago Illinois for about a year now.

I will be updating this thread from time to time or when I have chance. Do not hesitate if you have any question about coming to Chicagoland.

Welcome to Windy City!

I really want to migrate, but I don't have enough funds to pursue a degree, so am thinking of applying for tourist visa, just am a bit skeptical about it.

It depends on your of job, weather report and how desperate you are. I was at home throughout Friday, most schools and companies shut down as well.

But if you job is strictly per hour payment job, you will have to choose between risking everything to get to office or staying at home.

OP you are lucky ooo congrats and more success.
I was told about some Nigerian’s that started afresh despite their degree and work experience. Some went with MBBS and ended up as RN. I heard of a lawyer who migrated in his fifties to the US and had to start with security job.

How are you dealing with the snowstorm brother? Chicago is one of the toughest places to live in the U.S. in terms of winter season...

Yes oooooo... Very lucky!

You are right with those valid points raised, but if you have degree and experience in well recognized field, you can just go for your master here in U.S and you will be okay.

Reason why people with degree and experience choose to start over is to stay relevant and make more money.

For example, Masters in Accounting with CPA which will take 2 - 3years to complete can earn average salary of $50k while someone who started afresh and become RN which will take 4years to complete will may earn average salary of $60k.

Its all about your present situation and where you want to be in few years to come.

You will used to it noni if you wanna be here in Chicago. Not always as bad as it is right now. It was 7years ago when they experienced snow storm like this. I heard they had 3days lockdown.
