Your question is funny, you can not use an inverter without PHCN except you want to add Solar to it.

If you really have the money, then the Gen is okay but the amount you would use to fuel it for 2weeks would pay your PHCN bill of a month, if you then want to go totally independent i would advise solar power, though it is expensive.

@op, in Enugu Disco particularly Abakaliki in Ebonyi State we pay N30.93 per unit for a residential flat since February 2016. My bill came in today and it is the same.

I cook and stock up my fridge for at least two weeks. but lately PHCN made most of my food sour because of power shortage. I need to keep my fridge cool to avoid spoilage that was why i asked. I can charge with PHCN whenever power is available, solar is expensive.

hmmm... meanwhile in my house we haven't paid up to 10k a month for electricity, the highest we have payed is 8k.... and this is an area that have steady light. Sometimes we have light for 7 days straight. The only situation when we have power failure is when something happened to the transformer and poles....or they want the transformer to cool down

You will need 4 200VA batteries at the least,each costing over 100k, plus a 3.5 kvainverter itself.
Mind you, you need at least 8 hours power to fully charge up that power bank.
So,I tell you, its a vicious circle if you cannot boost of at least 12hours public power daily.
Its a shame,this country is still talking about power failure despite the deceptive promises of Fashola and APC.

for Oshogbo nits enrons,they brought 8-10k+ monthly for direct billing after u must ve paid for prepaid meter 2years ago or more without delivering

I will still advise you to augument the gen with the inverter of say 1.4kva which is around 250k for 2 batteries, you will still have savings on fuel, just that your inverter will not carry you fridge. If you run your gen for six hours pls six hours from phcn, your inverter will carry you all night or on demand.

Bear one thing in mind, if you plan to upscale the number of batteries in future, then the inverter has to be of higher capacity. Just search online shops like jumia to get idea of costs.

That one concern Una. Me I'm flexing 24hr electricity. All thanks to the abandoned solar panel I took from an abandoned borehole project plus 2 lorry alkaline batteries and an inverter constructed for me in Onitsha. The only thing wey e no dey power na my fridge. But TV, decoders, fan (as per heat) na sure
