Boldest Prediction or Craziest Prediction? Time will tell... reminds me of one such moniker here (Sir Mank I believe?) who says we will win this Cup and I was like... well, I would love that but don't feel bad if we don't.. just support the potentials of this team for it is an evolving one... Nigeria: Eagles 'Ll Win Russia 2018 World Cup - Amokachi By Jacob Ajom Former Super Eagles forward Daniel Amokachi has made the strongest prediction ever, on the chances of Africa's participation in this year's FIFA World Cup, claiming that Nigeria will emerge world champions for the first time. Amokachi who was at the partnership signing ceremony between NFF and Nigerian Breweries said the Eagles have a very bright chance of lifting the trophy. "I am their number one fan. We have a bunch of new generation players who are from the diaspora, who started from academies at early age and played through the ranks to the national team. They understood the game at an early age and that impacted on the team's performance throughout the qualifiers." The 1994 and 1998 World Cup hero said Eagles' World Cup group appears tough but he believes in the ability of the Coach Gernot Rohr's wards to weather the storm. "It is going to be one game at a time. I am happy the focus is not only on the Argentina match as we also have Croatia and Iceland. Croatia are a technical side and Iceland have a disciplined side that hits you after which they will park a bus." He said the level of commitment from the current Super Eagles players was top notch "because they are well bred professional. "I was asked in the studio, where I work about the chances of African representatives at the World Cup this year, I was emphatic. I said four teams from Africa would be in the second round, three teams from Africa would be in the quarter final, two in the semi final and one will be in the final. And Nigeria will win the World Cup. That is what I said, that is what I believe. You may have your own belief." Despite Nigerians’ optimism, Lawal fears for Super Eagles By Christian Okpara Super Eagles . AFP PHOTO / Mladen ANTONOV •Siasia banks on friendlies for good outing Garba Lawal is not given to frivolous talks . The former Super Eagles’ utility man chooses his words carefully and when he delivers his verdict , the wise are better advised to take note . Lawal was at the unveiling of Nigeria Football Federation ’ s (NFF ) latest partnership , a N 450 million a year deal with NB Plc and despite all the accolades that followed the latest money stream , the former Julius Berger star had a word of caution for the managers of the senior national team. “ I am worried that everybody is saying that Nigeria will beat Croatia , Iceland and Argentina at the World Cup just because of one friendly match. This is dangerous because if the players also believe in that line of thought , then we are in trouble . “ I am not saying that we cannot beat these teams , but it cannot be done by merely wishing it . It can only be accomplished through hard work, ” he said. Looking at the players available to all the teams in Nigeria ’ s group , Lawal thinks the Super Eagles are the weakest in the group . “ Iceland has been up there in the last three years. We all saw what they did at the European Championship . Everybody knows Messi and Argentina ’ s super stars and then look at Croatia . All their players are in big European clubs , so it doesn’ t come any harder than that . But we can overcome them . “ Our players need to be match fit and avoid injuries . Names do not play football , but skill and determination count . The team needs all the best players available for selection in good shape and psychologically prepared for the competition, ” he said. While Lawal preaches caution as Nigeria prepares for the World Cup , another former international , Samson Siasia says the friendly matches lined up for the Eagles will put them in good stead for the challenges in Russia . The Super Eagles will take on Poland, Serbia , DR Congo and England before the World Cup , which is scheduled to be hosted by Russia . “ It is a joyful thing for every Nigerian that we have qualified and going to fly our flag in Russia but as we all know, World Cup is all about preparations , ” Siasia said. “ The coach ( Gernot Rohr ) and the FA need to do everything possible to carry out the World Cup plans . Fine , we have seen partnerships here and there but we need to do so much more.” Source: https://m.guardian.ng/sport/despite-nigerians-optimism-lawal-fears-for-super-eagles/ Russia 2018 WC Countdown: 122 6hrs 11mins days to go 5 Likes |

Your last quote to me on the "Iheanacho played no 9 in a 4-2-3-1" matter which exposed your lies and cowardice to admit truth is exactly similar to this one. Did I indulge your debasing call? Did I respond? Nope. So that should tell you what I will do just now.... I will just leave you to your folly so you keep licking your wounds coz the exposition you gave yourself is enough. I have made my points and it is seen by all. So keep doing your best to buy my attention... you won't have it. Looollll goldfish80: |

6. 2014: Nigerians may have fond memories of the 2014 tournament in Brazil, when they equalled the nation's best performance by taking four points from the group stage before falling to France in the Round of 16. However, while Ahmed Musa's double against Argentina and Peter Odemwingie's winner against Bosnia-Herzegovina were great moments, the dual-green kit doesn't quite stand the test of time. Ridiculed upon its unveiling, the return to a near-neon green didn't go down well with punters, even if Adidas' white stripes on the shoulder were a classy touch. 1 Like

TheSuperNerd: I said Kelechi played no in a 4-2-3-1 formation? This is what you termed "debasing call" ? What nonsense are you talking about? Is your name Kelechi Iheanacho? Talking about attention, you mentioned me more than 15 times in the last 24hrs. Who is buying whose attention, between me and you? |

5. 2010: Nigeria returned to the high table in 2010, but they didn't leave much of an impression, falling at the first hurdle after taking just one point from their three group games. Their kit didn't leave much of an impression either. It was simply quite a boring effort, which lacked the style of previous efforts and must have taken the chaps at Adidas about 20 minutes to whip up. Even the green lacked the vitality of Nigeria's more classic kits, and this one, while inoffensive, is simply unmemorable. 1 Like

Certitude:Oh my man you damn funny, not really, the 45 was culled from my first car plate number(045) I thank God i did not reduced my age cos it paved way for me to be picked among my colleagues for a course in abroad. I remain one of the very few Nigerians that never tampered with their age. In my former office amongst my colleagues am the youngest with real age but officially oldest,a lot of them have their age supported with court affidavits. This is one of the reason i always go against those who always criticising our players based on age cos many are guilty. 5 Likes |

4. 2002: This effort is somewhat divisive among supporters. Certainly, there are some fond memories of some of the nation's greatest players strutting their stuff in Japan and South Korea - in the Group of Death - in this bright number, and there was no way that the Super Eagles were going to be missed. However, the shade of green just wasn't quite 'Nigeria' enough for purists, with Nike returning to a similar option for the home kit ahead of this year's tournament. Intriguingly, Nigeria opted for white numbers on their fluorescent green kit against Argentina in 2002, but changed to black - for legibility purposes - for their clash against England.

3. 1998: Nigeria's kit in 1998 was a thing of beauty, as Nike again excelled themselves with a classy effort. The white bands with black trim on the shoulders and under the arms made the Super Eagles appear imposing and dynamic, and as if to prove the point, Sunday Oliseh's winner - in this strip - against Spain remains arguably the nation's greatest World Cup moment. The best thing about this kit? It matched perfectly with Taribo West's iconic green haircut!

maidaboi: I simply interpreted it as "an opportunity for Iheanacho to have more game time". Why I looked away was because I felt it was normal for one to feel that way as a Nigerian fan. But you have since cleared the air. So no big deal. We understand you better now. 2 Likes |

2. 2018: At first glance, the 'feathery' design may be an acquired taste for some, while others have again complained that the shade isn't the right green for the Super Eagles. However, this dazzling Nike design - part of a collection to celebrate the concept of Naija - has all the makings of an all-time classic World Cup jersey. Certainly, if the Eagles reach the Round of 16 and beyond, you could expect this to become an iconic kit, with the touch of nostalgia and reference to the 1994 strip a lovely gesture. 5 Likes 1 Share

1. 1994: The original iconic Nigeria World Cup kit, it remains arguably the greatest - and is certainly one of the finest home shirts ever worn by the Super Eagles. The white away kit, as worn by Rashidi Yekini as he tore into the net, pumping his fists in jubilant celebration after netting Nigeria's account at the World Cup, may be the more emblematic strip, but the home shirt is excellent too. The home shirt, while a little more subtle than the away strip, was still a head-turner, with the reference to local fabric around the neck and sleeves not quite like anything else the World Cup had previously seen. A truly distinctive kit, and a worthy uniform for the Golden Generation's first introduction to a global audience.

Kog45: That is it. It is only normal. I don't see why anyone would make a big deal out of it. Was is not after Vardy's injury that Iheanacho started seeing some little rays of light before finally making the bench in the EPL and then even starting a game? Now we are relieved that the boy still has some stuff in him Not that I am a Leicester fan but because of the Nigerians in the team I would always want them to win ( except of course against Arsenal).
