Governors Running To Abuja Over Herdsmen Crisis, Are Shameless, Cowards – Dalung by laidelaitan(f): 3:14pm On Feb 14, 2018
Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Barr. Solomon Dalung, has described as ‘shameless and coward’ the action of the Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state and other state governors crying to the State House over the attack of their people.

Dalung, who dropped the hint while dispelling the rumour that he was planning to contest against Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State, argued that the position of governors in Nigeria was not for the feeble-hearted crying to the State House even as the chief security officers of their states with so much money at their disposal.

Fielding questions from newsmen, in his office, in Abuja, on Tuewsday, Dalung said: “I have not made up my mind whether to contest any election in 2019, not even Councilorship let alone governorship.

“I don’t know where the speculations of my contesting for the governor of Plateau State is coming from.

“One office I don’t envy in my life is the office of the governor in Nigeria. I told the governor of Lagos State so. The responsibility of the governors is so enormous and anybody occupying that office should know it. He has the responsibility to protect the lives of Nigerians living within his territory. He has the responsibility of developing policies that will move the state forward and the responsibility of developing economic policies that will fast-track economic development in the state.

“The governors are the custodians of lives in the whole state and hold it in trust for the people. They also collect and manage monthly statutory allocations including what the APC government introduced like the Paris Club bailout. The governors just manage this for the benefit of those living in the state,” he noted.

Speaking specifically about the ‘weeping governors’, Dałung said: “I shed tears when I heard a governor lamenting that his people have been attacked. If the governor should lament that way, then the people in the state should park and run away. This is a man that collects monthly subventions. He is the chief security officer of the state and a General of the Army, yet he is crying.

“Let me commend the people where there have been attacks and the governors are crying. They are still around. It shows that they are courageous. They deserve commendation, but it is cowardice for the governor to cry.

“To worsen it, the situation has given room to the varieties of terrorism that have been domesticated in Nigeria now. We have spiritual terrorists found in worship places responsible for instigating people with hate speeches they preach.

“Despite all the monies we have been collecting, education has failed us in the Middle Belt states. There are no schools, no hospitals and no roads yet they stand on the pedestal of their non-performance to enumerate our problems.

“Spare me the agony of becoming a governor because I don’t want to die of high blood pressure. Most of these states have collected a lot of money yet they are so indebted that if I become governor I will be carrying building machine around,” he quipped.

Another confused human being speaking all for the purpose of seeking relevance. ''The primary purpose of govt is the protection of lives and properties''. This is the function of govts at all levels. The president has the military, police, dss, nscdc, efcc, customs, immigration service, prison service in order to perform this primary duty. Which one(s) do govts at lower levels have? Constitutionally, governors don't even have powers over even traffic police or ''yellow fever''! The constitution needs to be amended to empower governors with instruments like state police to fulfil the role.

This man doesn't sound sane at all. FG controls every security apparatus and can frustrate any state government. What does he expect a governor who answers chief security officer without control over any security apparatus in his state.

That's why we are advocating for state police. If it works then you can insult any governor that runs to abuja.

His pronouncement and inclination are not new to our political discourse. He only went further to highlight the problems thereby hinting the solution. Whatever our responses are, they are not far-fetched from the solution which is RESTRUCTURING.

This MONEY SPENDED minister is dumber than first thought.

Are the security agencies answerable to the governors or the President?

Who has the security apparatus of the country? The Governors or the President?

If the have for instance state police, you would have made a salient point.

This administration is an agglomeration of the same type of people.

THE LAND OF THE RISING SUN MUST SET FORTH AT DAWN

Dalang is just a fool that's trying so hard to impress his master. Is he trying to say that he's not aware that a CP is answerable to IGP and not state governor.

I wonder how any sane human being will agree with the minister. If he does anything he will be blackmailed and they will say he is funding a militia group.

He has cried to Buhari, the press, UN and God (I think ).

All these ass-licking sycophants of buhari just dey make me weak, these are they same chalatans that was hailing Governor Kashim Shettima of bornu state during the last administration when he was lamenting about the chibok girls,

And the hypocritical APC goons were shouting from rooftops how its was Jonathan's responsibility to be proactive and deal with the situation

They milked the hell of that situation and used it to win the election... now a similar situation is happening under buhari watch, its no longer the presidents responsibility but a handicapped governor.

Fool. Who controls the Police, Army and other security agencies. It is time to introduce state policing. Only then, can you hold the state governors truly accountable for the security of lives and properties. Is it not in this same country, that a commissioner of place prevented an incumbent governor from accessing the state government house? Is it not in this same country that the police shut the gate of the National assembly against an incumbent Speaker and other honorable members of the House of Reps? Is this not a clear fact that the Federal Government is in absolute control of the security apparatus? Despite PMBs order to the IGP to move to Benue State, have the killings stopped? What then should the governor do?

I'm not speaking for the governors cos they are also foolish and lack competence. Most politicians have no sincere interest of the masses at heart. However, Dalung's stvpidity ought to pointed out in clear terms. He is as useless, clueless and senile as his principal PMB.

Olodo minister! Blame Buhari first before blaming State Governors.

I'm not a fan of any of the parties, but Lagos gives us a good clue of what to do when in security crisis. Ikorodu and baddoo should be studied.

When baddoo ravaged Ikorodu no one shouted Buhari. Ambode acted swiftly in collaboration with the security agencies and the rest is history.

I enjoin the affected states to please up their game.
