You can applied from Nigerian but your credentials and experience have to be competitive enough because the company employing you will spend money and other resources to get you here. They will file H1B visa for you.

"The US H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to employ graduate level workers in specialty occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise in specialized fields such as in IT, finance, accounting, architecture, engineering, mathematics, science, medicine, etc"
http://workpermit.com/immigration/usa/us-h-1b-visa-specialty-workers
I think i have tried this link some years back. Theywill request for money at the end.

You mean to say, no one should try to remain in the us on a tourist visa as it is not worth it?
being out of status in the U.S can be a very daunting experience... living and running from the law, not everyone might have the liver to pull through such experience... well though when it's all said and done, staying back in America would be worth the battle and struggle to some while to some it would be decision they'd wish they had never taken... it's all about taking chances. like I said it should be a decision people should know the possible outcomes

I absolutely love Chicago!! I went visiting about 2 years ago and I fell in love with the city. Taxi drivers almost remind me of Lagos drivers and driving in Chicago can be a little stressful dues to traffic and some people's driving styles. I stayed in a cheap hotel which I regretted as the room was sub par and there were shady characters loitering in the hotel premises. The good thing was that I was enjoying the sights and sounds of Chicago so much, that the only time I was in the hotel was when I wanted to sleep.

Downtown Chicago is so cool and has a great mix of modern and traditional architecture. I particularly liked the overhead trains as it reminded me of New York. Parking was a beast however and tends to be quite expensive. The great thing about Chicago is that there is SO much to see and do. I barely scratched the surface during my visit and I plan to visit again. If you are in Chicago for a visit I will definitely recommend you spring for the Go City Pass as it gives you access to over 26 tourist destinations. Some of the places I visited during my visit included

Navy Pier
Millennium Park
Crown fountain
Jon Hancock Building
Sky Deck
Art Institute of Chicago
Adler Planetarium

In my opinion if you have not been to the Millennium Park, Crown fountain and downtown Chicago, you have not visited Chicago. These destinations are a MUST for anybody visiting Chicago.

Well unfortunately, the one time I visited in December some years ago, turned me off so badly, that I do not ever hope to be return during that month or any time during the winter season. It's just too much....the layers and layers of snow, the gray skies, the chilling wind that feels like it's biting one's face off etc., (they don't call it the windy city for nothing)....lol.
Been there during the summer and it was quite nice. Been there during all seasons except fall...which I wouldn't mind experiencing.

I couldn't agree with you more, hope to see you in summer

Though I will like to say illegal immigration should not be encouraged but the fact is that millions of illegal immigrant are here in U.S and they even contribute billions of dollar yearly to the economy.

It's a well known fact that 85% of immigrant in U.S today did not state their original intention to the V.O

Will there be repercussion if you are out of Status ? YES! I will say your survival rate is 90% if you know what you are doing.

Is the risk worth it ? YES 200%.

Tbh Trump's proposed reform of the H1b visa will actually benefit Nigerians and other countries because for years now IT outsourcing companies from India have been flooding the H1b application every year resulting in it being oversubscribed and a lottery to select people. These companies know how to play the numbers game e.g. if they need 100 programmers they will send in 400 plus applications and should end up with about 100. This makes it very difficult for people from Nigeria etc given India alone has taken about 70% of the H1b visas available.

Trump's proposal to increase the min salary from $60k amongst others means people who are highly skilled and identified by American companies have more of a chance rather than just software developers from India who are being taken advantage off due to these companies paying low wages.

As you can see from the below link, in 2016 Nigeria only sent 402 workers under the H1B visa scheme compared to India who sent over 120k. Unless you want to tell me Indians are much more highly skilled than Nigerians you can see it is very unfair and guess what Indians still complain that it is not enough and want restrictions on country levels for green cards lifted.

Thanks, nothing is impossible for God.

Actually, the recent hullabaloo about H1B under Trump administration make it a bit shaky, though not impossible.

I think the main goal would be making one self "extremely" competitive for the company; too good to ignore.

It's well!

Such is life, we cried about -6° weather in January and Califonia complained about over 80° heat.

Thank God spring is just around the corner

Thanks bro, I quite agree with you. If the proposal scale through, it will definitely hurt the Indians; who has totally take advantage of the loopholes in H1B visa.

I can't imagine 120k applications as against 400 from Nigerians, that in ratio 1:300!. Even in the war front, isn't it going to be an uphill task for 1 soldier to face over 300 well trained combatant soldiers? Lol. But , with this reform like you rightly said,it will open up opportunities for under represented countries like Nigeria.

No wonder the route of h1b to green cards(eb2/eb3) seems fast becoming impossible for Indians. It will take roughly 15 to 20 yrs for them to get GC!, because of many backlogs of applicants.

I think this one area Nigerians would have exploit to immigrate, but lack of awareness and that of local I.T firms like infosys, Tata et al, in India has contributed to low applications from our end.

I remembered, @Bossman (a nairalander and Chicagoan geek lol) once said , he was shocked when he see one Nigerian in their office under H1B visa, something very rare. And guess what, it was one those Indian I.T firm that filed for him.

I believe, with these lots informatioms come from brothers like Bishoop007 et al, in shortest possible time, people can be well armed and make better informed decisions regarding all these issues.

It's 100% possible with Master degree here. I will advise you write GMAT or GRE then apply for Masters which will take you about 2years to complete.
