Actually the first person to get a Job from my class after we graduated from school was the only third class graduate amongst us. The second guy who barely got a 2.2 now works in his father's company. Many of the 2.1s are still at home. I'm not trying to encourage mediocrity but the Nigerian labour market is more complex that y'all think.
you are right. It a matter of connection.I don't have a good grade but working with gov't. But I have done the needful now and l am coming out with 2.1

Nice Topic to follows. Your grade doesn't give you edge over other some people are acedemically sound , but how Intellect are they? Remember those firm don't need u to sound acedemically alone. But ur intellect also contribute lot .

Like u rightly said. Those firms need ur intellect. I remember sometime in 2008/2009 I was working for MTN. There was this guy with ordinary ND certificate, but he had some great reporting skills which the management saw as useful t the business At a point, this guy became very relevant in his reporting and analysis skill that the business needed him more than even the so called with good university grades. Even while some people were being sacked, this guy could not be sacked because of his very rare skill that was helping the executivea take decisions. He resigned by himself later, and while resigning, the company still begged him to help pass the knowledge. U dey here dey talk nonsense say 2.2 no be certificate. Bullshit!this is the most stupid post I ve read in the last few months. Very unrealistic.

Abeg forget that thing. Na connection sure pass. I finished with 2.1 but couldn't get any decent job! The one I got was under paying me. Like seriously, I went to uni and worked hard to graduate with 2.1 to be earning 35k?

While ladies in my class with the right connections, some of them I taught them in school then. They are well employed and paid because they have the right connection.

Millions of 2.1 graduates are jobless now and millions are under paid. Know the right persons and u would get a good job in Nigeria.

The very few who got good jobs out of merit are simply in the 'a few category'

Their grace is really high. I even had to learn more ICT skills, got certification, yet no betr job! Had to to resolt to freelancing.

Thank you very much.....

I graduated with 3.0[2:2 mech. Engr.]. It wasn't painful for me cos i always knew my Success wasn't tied to my Certificate.... I first started selling 2nd hand tyres...While @ it, i learnt web designing and python programming for the fun of it...BUT.... I'm into Haulage now and it's awesome[ventured into Hualage 3yrs ago].....I now have people working for me[....and i pay them monthly]...

[NB: i suspended web designing and programming like 3yrs ago......I still have my note with all my codes in tact cos i have this feeling that I'll start coding again in the future... For fun of course]....

Those who easily get jobs in Nigeria are the ones who know someone who equally know someone at the top. If you are not influential in Nigeria, forget it ! Even if you graduate with first class and you are not influential in Nigeria, you are on your own (OYO)

Exactly... I have a friend who dropped out of school[RSUST] and travelled to dubai almost 5yrs ago... He got a job with Mercedes[without any degree ooh].... He later enrolled in one of the universities there and graduated last year.... He still works there till date and just started building his house here.....

Certificate is an added advantage [and a must] especially here in Africa.... But in advanced countries, they don't care about your Certificate, they just want to know what you have to offer... Simple...

Don't you know that for many bloggers, lying is the tool of their trade? undecided They post lies, on social media. They recycle fake news rapidly, without bothering to crosscheck its' veracity. They cut-and-paste gossip, falsehood and put an imaginary spin on events, in order to generate traffic. After they have made money from their lies, they still go back to the same social media to flaunt it, as if they are geniuses. And you still think they will enter heaven? shocked

Thank God it's an opinion. Our Labour market is not doing too well because they over rely on what they see in Paper. Could you believe that some First Class holders are a shame to their certificate?. Most companies in Nigeria employs foreigners who are technicians in their countries. They do not even have the First Class we claim as a prerequisite for employment.
My opinion, I'll employ based on your output in a technical exam. 1st, 2nd,3rd, pass, COA(certificate of Attendance) holders are free to apply. When a specified quota might have applied, technical exam (based on their fields) is given. The best performer is my prospective employee... I DON'T BELIEVE IN CERTIFICATE ANY MORE

No, they didn't do anything to me. Any blogger that peddles lies about me, will get arrested and sued for defamation. I no get time for rubbish. angry But I have witnessed the lives of others ruined by their fake news. So I have a deep-seated dislike for their unending lies and falsehood. undecided As for all those who have made money from blogging lies, forged tales and fraudulent stories, may their money disappear like dewdrops on a sunny hot day....
