Eight women, who were newly delivered of babies, have been detained at the Alimosho General Hospital, Igando, Lagos over their inability to pay accrued hospital bills arising from delivery services. Consequent upon this detention, the movement of the affected women has been restricted to the premises of the Maternity and Child Complex (MCC) domiciled at the Alimosho General Hospital.

The women, who often wear uniforms provided by the hospital, are closely monitored by security officials on duty who ensure that they are always restricted within the MCC. Investigation by New Telegraph shows that it is not only security officials that monitor the detained patients, even nurses on duty keep an eye on the patients anytime any of them steps out of the ward where they are being held.

One of the detained women, Fati Mohammed, had now been abandoned by her spouse owing to the couple’s inability to pay baby delivery service fee. Also detained are Mrs. Anna Ifoga, who is a petty trader; Mrs. Funmilayo Adegboye, also a petty trader, and Mrs. Basirat Kosoko

Even at that, how are they going to take care of their babies when they can't even afford delivery fees,

It's sad that those women cannot afford to pay their bills but the hospital is not a charity organization.

The hospital needs fund
They have workers that need to be paid too.

As much as i support that LASG should write off the bills, my greatest concern is how these women would raise the children, if they could not pay the medical bills.We cannot blame govt for every of our problem. The simple truth is, dont give birth to children you cant cater for

Sad, the more reason why NHIS should be compulsory for everyone.
Government needs to have a sliding tax which takes more from the rich and use it to finance healthcare. Any one whose gross earning is above 500k should pay 20% tax, above 200k should pay a 10% tax, above 100k should pay 7.5% etc etc

What u don't no is that most Poor man see their wife as the only source of enjoyment, since they have no money to Eat or buy whatever dey need for enjoyment, except Sex which dey can easily get from their wife, and some are poor to use protection or they are illiterate, so dey keep producing children like pigs

Maternity and child care ought to be free for everyone. On federal health care board. That is the minimum any remotely sane country should offer.

Perhaps sex is the only entertainment they have access to. And lack of enlightenment on family planning is also the cause.
