The Nigeria Medical Association has promised to retreat from resorting to incessant strike actions as a bargaining tool to press home its demands considering the grave implication of such actions on the health sector .

Chairman of the Abia State chapter of NMA, Dr. Uwa Onwuchekwa, made the promise in Umuahia during the opening ceremony of the 2014 Physicians’ Week .

Strike is the most potent tool used during collective bargaining. It's unrealistic to say Strike of any sort won't be used ny NMA.

Dr Onwuchekwa is an eloquent, erudite, funny, boisterous, vibrant and gallant physician(a consultant nephrologist). He is a gift to Abia State NMA. He's the chairman of Abia State NMA and also doubles as the president of Aba Sports Club. He's a typical doctor politician. My only annoyance was having to be physically present in that meeting, where the SSG and Minister of Health were celebrating mediocrity by calling Governor T. A. Orji a consensus builder(they call him Ochendo global) chaii!!! Doctors rili fall my hand,no b small.

So long! Gone are the days when industrial actions were potent tools as it has no effect on the people we supposedly use it against, rather it takes it toll on the masses whose interest most time the strikers claim to cater for. We as Nigerians have gotten used to them just like Nepa wahala and the government have built an adaptive immune system, making the strikers appear s tupid, sooner regret their quest and beg for dialogue; an option they fail to explore to the maximum before embarking on industrial actions.

I can only hope that they will stick to their words,

It is disheartening for doctors to stand aside and watch people pass away,

They should look for better bargaining tools, ignoring their duty posts isn't way to go.
