Let me add a sprinkle of optimism into this debate as a summary for aspiring international students.

If you have studied or are studying in fields such as Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, IT (all specializations), Engineering (some specialized areas), the UK would provide you the same excellent job opportunities as every other developed country e.g US, Australia etc. It's also an added advantage if you already have your immigration status sorted, so companies know they don't need to go through the additional hassle of sponsoring you. However, if you are in the above disciplines and you haven't got a work permit or some form of visa without work restrictions, the likelihood of an employer sponsoring you is very high. I'm in one of those disciplines and I'm yet to see anyone who studied any of those fields unemployed. The few I know who are not permanently employed are employed as locum by umbrella agencies and their rate of pay is even much higher than those permanently employed.

So, there you go lads. Change IS coming though, the Labour Party (when we WIN the next election) will introduce the Canadian style points system for all international students. A 3-year automatic UK post study visa for all international students is doable in the UK! grin

Dude, I studied Computer Science and I am trying to educate you that Computer Science graduates can choose whatever niche they want after graduation. Software Development, Testing, Web DEv. System Engineering etc.
There is no University that will give a a degree in Web dev. or System Engineering.........
Are you also in UK now?

I advised so many people after I returned from the UK because it was exactly that year I was doing my Masters programme they stopped the Post study Work Visa. So I was expecting to work for 3 years, recoup my money before coming back home but the PSW was stopped that year. I did my best to advise many aspiring students not too come to the UK for masters but many didn't listen.

I won't say I lost my money because I really utilized my 20hrs per week to work term time and 40hrs per week during holidays. I even got a Job at the Olympics games and earned a lot of money. I made close to half of my tuition fee. Came back home but didn't get a Job until after 2 years of coming back home.

Canada is the best for Students to study because after graduation you are given a Resident permit but to get their Visa is the most tasking job. USA on the other hand you have the opportunity to work since they won't be asking for your papers even after it has long expired.

US no dey ask for papers? Not this Donald Trump US era bro...

On a serious note.. my issue with a thread like this is the amount of misinformation it contains.

Its not true that foreign students don't get a job after graduation, just like in every country not many get that job after graduation.

Job opportunities are there IF you qualify for one.

Despite all the tough immigration rules the number of foreign students coming to the UK to study has increased.

We shouldn't mislead people in the name of Enlightenment.

Don't come to the UK if you are looking for a way to leave Nigeria by all means through education, invest your money in Nigeria or look for scholarship.

This post and the one above deserve a medal.

Too many people in this travel section who don't research properly before traveling overseas or have an inflated sense of entitlement.

Watch carefully a thread like this will spring up next with the same alarming content then you see some town criers blaming the UK for everything that went wrong in their lives.

Don't waste your money and time else you come here to cry how UK hate Nigerians.

You can't work, study, do business, rent a house or open bank account with visiting visa.

So visiting visa is that useless?

It's just to allow you spend your hard earned cash I guess. Ds oyinbo ppl do have a superiority complex while blacks have got the other.

ahahahah come dont run, I also found this about you so you went to germany for this,U dey rake computer science and advice International students, dey form jUstwise Na wahh grin grin

Don't conclude base on "Somones experience". I came to Germany on a language study visa and I converted it here to a student visa.
The Fact is, if you are coming to Germany on a Language Visa, you should have atleast B1, it is as simple as that, Most universities have preparatory classes for DSH but you require at least B1 to get into this class.

No its not useless, the problem is with us Nigerians we have no respect for any constituted authority, we want to abuse any system given the opportunity.

Visiting visa means just that..visiting, not work or study visa.

This is not about superiority as you called it, its a convince a excuse.

We get angry because we get caught doing the wrong thing not because we regret what we have done

God bless you immensely. I have been looking for how to create awareness on this issue.

If I had known that it was like that in the UK I wouldn't have bothered going there! People need to be aware that UK should not be an option. Its bewildering (and quite unfair) to make Nigerians pay so much money with little to no benefits in return. I was lucky to have gotten a job as soon as I got back to Nigeria, but what about the other over 30 school mates that were in my school that are jobless in Nigeria with no job to give back to their families for the money spent? One day, I went for a bank job interview, and I saw a lady that studied MPH in my UK University, she finished a year before me, which simply means she had been jobless for a year plus. I was so heartbroken seeing how the UK certificate had not impacted her in any way.

During my studies, I applied to over 100 IT jobs, I knew I was over qualified for some sef, but they turned me down the moment they found out that I was going to need sponsorship (even with the IT shortage)- me, that built their economy with my outrageous tuition! One time, one of the international officers in my school even confided in me that the Indians had blacklisted UK Universities due to the inability to remain in the UK after the amount of money spent, she wondered when we Nigerians would get sense and do the same.

I am always so happy when I see the UK threads reducing in popularity because less Nigerians are going there, rather, I am happy that the Canada, US and Australia threads growing with Nigerian youths that want a better life. UK is so so so not worth it!

I’m confused as to why we think the UK must provide us with job opportunities after an expensive education. We were not forced to study there... we contributed nothing to the infrastructure that attracts us to go there. They want their country to better serve their own citizens and are under no obligation to compensate you for the poor state of your own country.

About 1 in 200? Seriously? Is that what you classify as opportunity? Even when ur course is on the shortage skill list? No "guarantees"? That's not what I call opportunity Mr.
Opportunity is being given a pathway to stay for a couple of years to get some experience before returning home (if you wish). Equal opportunity that is not hinged on employers sponsoring you. But what do I know? When gurus like you have the answers to everything

Lets not all come here and deceive ourselves. The truth of the matter is the chances of getting a job are slim. The truth is majority of people going to study in the UK (or anywhere for that matter) hope to get the opportunity to get some experience after school and possibly remain as a legal immigrant. But in the UK that is hinged on a sponsor and trust me its very very slim. I do know this for a fact because I researched my ass off at a point. And was refused a couple of jobs after interviews.
So please give the OP a break. He is just telling people not to go with that mind set to the UK. THEY WILL MOST LIKELY NOT GET JOBS!!!

No its not 1 in 200 and there is nothing like equal opportunity when you are holding a visa, that visa has rules and regulations.

British citizens are not guaranteed a job after graduation so why are you expecting foreign students to be given one?

Why are you demanding or expecting equal opportunity from a foreign govt and not from Nigerian govt?

..and to your last part.. yes i have answer to everything deal with that.

A very close friend with less than 3yrs experience was able to get a job with Barclays bank in their IT department, she got her first job before the current one with absolutely no experience in IT field apart from her Msc qualification.

You don't generalize, foreign students do get a job after graduation in the UK.
. Don't misinform people. Only 1 out of 800 foreign student will get a job that can sponsor their visa. VERY FEW PEOPLE GET A JOB. After your masters you have about 3/4 months before your visa expiration which of course is not renewable except you get someone to marry so how can you get a job when you have to leave almost immediately? UK MASTERS NA WASTE OF MONEY
