That is the truth. It is a lot easier to get admission in UK schools. Maybe that is why a lot of people are happy to spend their millions.
Despite the tough rules, a lot of Chinese are still coming to the UK. A lot of them don't even bother to look for job as they always go back after studying.
Chinese ke..lol
Those ones have lots of money ooo.
When was in uni back in the UK for my msc (2008), those chinese students would go shopping for £2000 camera and expensive designer wears on their first week of arrival. I see them al around my uni snapping pics of flowers and traffic light with their expensive dlr camera. Once they are done with their program, they return to hongkong or beijing..
Even here in Canada, it's the same thing. They returm to their country upon the completiom of their programs despite the opportunity to stay back for 1 to 3 years.

Least we forget.the UK schools are under no obligation to get you work or advice you of life after school . That's the duty of the home office and the Labour mkt . So I dont think the Universities would do that . Rather that point of you getting VISA is where they should put it and I dare say they DO . So anyone coming here should put this at the bck of their minds there might be no JOBS after your education .

Good choice! wink Once other international students get the message, things would change. At least, without the huge cash being pumped into UK schools by Nigerian students, such schools would have to think up new gimmicks to keep them afloat! cheesy

(sigh) This matter is really causing you pain! So UK schools should engage in subtle 419 to collect fees from naive, unsuspecting international students??! Wow! shocked I never looked at it from that angle before....it could explain why the UK govt has not insisted that such schools should put up a large disclaimer on their website and in their brochures, repeating that international students cannot work in the UK after acquiring such pricey degrees from their institutions. It would nip everything in the bud. International students will save their money. undecided UK govt will have less breaches of their immigration rules. And the UK universities would lose a substantial amount of funds, that would have come in from the unsuspecting international students. I love it! cheesy

If a masters student claims to be naive and unsuspecting, despite all the clear immigration rules, then too bad. UK schools are also businesses, I don’t blame them. A fool and his money are soon parted.

Sir, you are the one turning yourself into an aggrieved contortionist in your bid to defend the UK govt policies, mindlessly. shocked All the rest of us are doing, is to ensure that the same policy is laid bare in clear terms, to those who want to come and study in the UK. It needs to be repeated with real-life examples, so that those who are about to take this step, can realise that better alternatives exist in other countries, and vote accordingly for what suits them. So why are you still wailing? Any Nigerian student who still votes to study in the UK, after reading through this entire thread and seeing the opportunities elsewhere, needs to see a shrink.

This thread is one long lament from you. grin My point is that we wouldn’t need to cry if we simply engaged our brains.

Don't worry, Nigerian students and their international counterparts will soon get the message. And all the juicy cash your UK schools were reaping from their attendance, would soon become a tale of the past, once they take their studies elsewhere.

shocked grin FYI I live in the United States. What UK schools charge you is not my problem. This thread caught my curiosity because it is a microcosm of the Nigerian problem - lazy, poor planning, no foresight... only to blame the outcome on others.

You act as if UK schools will die without you. One wonders how they were established in the first place without your money. If your money was that substantial why can’t you use it to build equivalent schools in your country, where I am sure every graduate is guaranteed a job no? grin

Great. I graduated just when the recession started in the UK. The part timers in my class were losing jobs. Note that my class had about 6 full time and about 20 part time students. I immediately knew the that the full time students including myself were bleeped. If the ones with years of experience were losing jobs, wetin us go do?
I had to restrategize and apply for jobs in other fields while i applied for immigrant programs in other countries. Actually the UK masters gave me the much desired points i needed to qualify for Canada's highly skilled migrant program. It was a great deal for me cos i got the masters degree in 1 year! UK grads that are finding it difficult to get jobs and stay back. should try the Austalia or Canada immigration programs. Better than roaming streets of Nigeria searching for jobs and blaming the UK gov or schools.

We have heard - UK schools were not established with my money. sad But if you are so convinced that such UK schools can survive without the huge fees paid by international students, let them put up that disclaimer on their admission sites stating that "international students cannot work in the UK after acquiring such pricey degrees from their institutions." I intend to do some online diploma programs from the UK just for knowledge sake and I keep seeing these bodies as the regulatory bodies.

No, is either you deliberately refused to understand what i'm saying or you are just being mischievous.

My message to anybody planning to the UK is to read read and read, plan BEFORE you decide to come to the UK, know what you are entitled to, don't start crying and regretting coming to the UK after you might have invested the money already.

If i'm getting paid by the number of Nigerian students coming to the UK to study i would have been pretty rich by now..i mean really loaded.
Why are you contradicting yourself? What is the essence of this thread? Isn't to make information available to people to read and make an informed decision? Why then are you and some people here against the OP? Please, we need this kind of information in the public space so that people will have enough information. It is shocking that people are making snide comments about the OP.

Just come off your ''I know it better than everybody'' high horse because you know nothing! The OP has made his message very clear and I don't know in the life of me why it is difficult for slow people like you to get the main crux of his post. You're here embarrassing yourself in the name of trying to show you know it all. Stop acting as if you're the repository of all information about the UK. Hehehe!!!

I schooled in England not Scotland. If my brother/sister gets the opportunity to study for free in the UK, I will tell them to take it. Though, I won't advise them to come and spend their money here.

With regard to your other comments, first, how many of them actually go for apprenticeship? They are very few. I am a STEM ambassador and I know the struggle to get home students to study Engineering. Even British-Nigeria teenagers don't even want to study Engineering. Most of them will rather go for easier courses. I could count the number of British students studying EE while I was in Uni.

Yes, a lot of them work in construction Industry. Most of them are getting old and they need young people to fill their positions. Even those that are working just mastered what they are told to do. They sometimes struggle to make decision outside the norm as they lack understanding of the theory behind what they are doing.

I never said you will surely get a job if you apply early. I actually agree with a lot of your comments. In fact, some companies will not even allow you to go further once you state you need sponsorship. I applied for over 200 jobs myself and got rejected for over 90% of the applications I made. Did about 5-6 assessment exercise and got 2 offers. That is less than 2%. You can imagine the amount of effort I put into it as it can take you hours to even complete 1 application. Despite the effort I put in, it is not just by my effort but favour as I know a lot of people that put more effort than I did but still did not yield any results.

You've said it yourself. That's the message @aphrodite007 and @saouri have been trying to pass across.
Most people don't know how difficult it is to get a job in UK. Why will you spend so much money and end up having only 2% chance of getting a job afterwards.

We are having a silly back and forth. The government makes the laws... it really doesn’t matter a jot what a school tells you. It is your responsibility to know what the law says. Airlines fly you to the US daily and Disney wants your money too, regardless of what they say, it is your responsibility to know that you cannot simply choose to live in Florida forever on a visiting visa.

That is just plain facts... feel free twisting yourself into a pretzel in order to blame everyone but yourself for your own poor planning.

Besides, anyone who spends millions to obtain a masters in the UK gets no sympathy from me. You could have obtained the same degree for far less in the US or Canada... again it boils down to proper planning. I’ve spent enough time on these boards to realize that this is the fundamental problem of most Nigerians. We are basically lazy and shortsighted, preferring to rely on “favor” and “prayer” rather than a clear set of facts and logic. We know the immigration rules, but we prefer to go ahead, “believing god” that “our case is different”. When it doesn’t, we put up long threads blaming the UK government and it’s schools. UK schools exist to make as much money from the clueless, if I were in their shoes, I’d do the same too. It is not their responsibility to teach you how to think.

You are right when you've talked about lack of planning but is it now wrong to start a thread aimed at opening the eyes of fellow "clueless" Nigerians. We still have people on this same thread saying things like "why didnt you apply earlier" or "its because you didnt study this course". So we're saying why will you carry all that money to UK only to return immediately after, when there are other countries you can go to. Hence the topic of the thread "...Leave UK alone"
