RIP sir. The story of Biafra and her struggle is incomplete without your exploits. You fought and defended the homeland.
You scared Murtala Mohd from the war front. Injured ibb to the extent he still limps today. Ibb was saved cos you knew him before the war.
He made the ogbunigwe popular. He asked his soldiers to direct it to the pursuing Federal forces and there was collateral damage on the feds side. Meaning, he was a man who thought outside the box.
The ogbunigwe was initially designed to throw debris into the path of aircrafts to deter them from bombing civilians.

Rest in Peace sir.

This man was arguably the most gallant soldier on the Biafran side during the war. The greatest single massacre inflicted on the Nigerian soldiers was led by the Hannibal himself, and that was the Abagana ambush when with much lesser men and ammunition, he ambushed a full battalion of Nigerian soldiers armed to the teeth!! What was left of the thousands of Nigerian soldiers were their charred remains and long columns of completely burnt out tanks, armoured cars, vans etc! Google Abagana massacre and be informed, you can thank me later. If you read the comments above, then you will realize that you belong to the minority that don't know Col. Joe Achuzie. Reading his exploits when I was small used to fill me with awe.

sir, the one who writes the history largely determines who is a hero or villain.
At the same time, my eastern brothers do not really like having heroes, one thing I always use to quarrel with them for.
Compare Adekunle from Ekiti whom Federal Uni, Oye-Ekiti has been renamed after, my western brothers never stopped seeing him as a hero even why he was alive and they celebrated him as such in death.
Easterners are generally hot headed people (sorry, this is not an insult, it's just an observation). Whenever they perceive someone is against them (even if the person actually is with them) they go all out to rain e-stones at the person, without really trying to digest what is being said. Men like Adekunle like you said, Gani Fawehinmi, Enahoro, Obafemi Awolowo were all celebrated in line life and in death. Yakubu Gowon is still being revered. A lot of those shouting online today have never bothered to say or write anything about this fallen hero of theirs but now it has become as if they live and breathe Achuzie.
My point simply was, let's learn to value our own when they can still appreciate it, but in their usual aggressiveness, they are all coming for my jugulars for saying I don't know him. What a bunch of jokers!

History only remembers those who make a tangible impact. It's not my fault he ended up on the losing side despite his so called gallantry. We do not know him.

Care to share the meaning?

His full name is Hannibal Barca a general in the army of Carthage (which happens to be Tunisia now) and the son of Hamilcar Barca. He was responsible for leading the Carthaginian army and a team of elephants across southern Europe and the Alps Mountains against Rome in the Second Punic war which almost ended the Roman empire.

That is to say Achuzie was compared to this same Hannibal cos of his war exploits.

So "Air Raid" is gone! Colonel Joe Achuzia, one of the greatest Igbo men who ever lived.

Im pained at the death of this great man. There are not too many Igbo leaders I respect but this year alone, the death of Ekwueme and now, Achuzia. 

Igbos are fast losing the few great men they have worth respecting.

After I read his book "Requiem Biafra" where he told his Biafran war adventures, I bowed for this man.

Many people dont know it but this man came so close to death on several occassions during the war

Infact, it was him and an Ibibio officer called Lt Colonel Nsudoh who blew up the Niger bridge, preventing Murtala Mohammed and his second division from taking Onitsha. He would later completely destroy Murtala Mohammeds 2nd Division at the battle of Abagana

If he's such a hero how come most of us have never heard of him? Don't get me wrong, my point is, we should learn to celebrate our heroes when they are still alive (which actually benefits them more) than when they are dead, which is of no use to them.
don't mind all these guys shouting biafra everywhere. I am sure many of them didn't even knew this man until now.

I think a thread should be created to list men who fought in that war and the roles they actively played.

major uchendu actually thwarted murtalas 4th attempt,.. thru abagana,where a whole brigade was destroyed,along with hundreds of ammunition laden lorries, ferrets n armored saladines. murtalas first 3 attempts were all thwarted by achuzia, sinking whole navy armadas with hundreds of men using the famed ogbunigwe rockets/flying mines and then capturing stores and hardwares dat managed to make it across the river niger
