Fixed:

shocked shocked Just checked and saw a whooping 360,000 miles deducted from the mileage account of this Highlander leaving a paltry balance of 13,000 miles claiming the car is almost brand new!

I am for full disclosure. But the buyer should not stop at that. Personally I will still conduct due diligence to save myself from an impending disaster.

Another case to consider is the situation where 2 or 3 'dealers' or agents are advertising the same car or are they an unholy trinity?

This one is for you.

Its simple, the mods treat those auto section vultures as untouchables, maybe they get their own cut after the shady deal pulls through, who knows.

I posted that old thread to let people know that pre-ordering of vehicles is also dangerous if you fall into the hands of a fraudulent dealer. There are lots of other threads of stories that touch the heart. Once again here it is,a whole nine million Naira up in smoke.

I want to commend everyone who has contributed positively on this thread. A stitch in time saves nine, however if you expect this on the front page, you are on a long thing.
The Auto section is plagued with all kinds of maladies and it did not start today or this year. Half truths, false documentation, fraudulent adverts, fake customs documents, and shifty characters abound.
I stopped posting here when it became a process of banging your head on a brick wall and I wouldn't have known of this thread if a poster hadn't tagged my moniker.
The government has banned the importation of vehicles through the land borders and the customs have closed down all vehicle seats at the borders yet on this section we still find dealers advertising vehicles from Coutonu through Idi Iroko and Seme borders boldly. These vehicles can NEVER have genuine documents, yet people patronize these dealers probably out of ignorance or probably due to trying to cut corners.
I hope you guys can keep this up. All fraudsters on this section should be named and shamed.

But i will appreciate it if they don't mention names, pictures only.

I disagree with you on this completely.

You’re only providing entertainment and not fighting fraud unless you’re doing full disclosure which includes names.

On this topic you’re no better than the average Nigerian because we have bark and no bite.

Front-page of nairaland is frequently littered with irrelevant and uneducative topics like BB naija sex scenes, see the Bush meat a nairalander roasted today and so on. Reasonable and enlightening post such as this are left to rot at various sections of the forum, yet we wonder why the population of youths is filled with airheads and ignoramuses. Explorer i learnt so much on this thread and I'm amazed at the level of fraud perpetuated in the auto industry on or offline. You guys should please throw more light on how to easily spot the VIN number as a lay man. This can be further helpful to potential buyers of cars in future

I once had your mentality of "people cannot afford clean titled vehicles" but now I am a changed person. If all dealers disclose the status of their vehicles whoever wants to buy will still buy but they would have known what they are buying.

By the way I am a very passive dealer. I have never bought any vehicle for myself without asking questions and running my own checks.
