Deontay Wilder probably cemented his place on the top of the heavyweight division with a win over Luis Ortiz in a fight that many think could be the fight of the year already.

Wilder who is used to easily dispatching most of his opponents found Ortiz to be a much tougher but managed to Knockdown the Cuban down in the 5th with a vicious right hand, he is not called the ‘Bronze Bomber’ for nothing. Ortiz managed to escape defeat at that point after being saved by the bell.

The champ continued is pursuit of victory in the 6th hurting the challenger with his deadly right hand but Ortiz persevered and by the 7th round had Wilder on the verge of defeat with a great right hook and follow-up with a barrage of punches that Wilder had no answer for.

However, to his credit Wilder got more into the fight by the 9th round after enduring a tough 8th beginning to seize the initiative again as Ortiz began to tire and by the 10th another right hand had him down, he beat the count but followed by a flurry of punches from Wilder, Ortiz was down again with the referee waving off the match. Deontay Wilder improved to a jaw dropping (40-0) with 39 knockouts. Ortiz’s record falls to (28-1) with 24 knockouts.

Wilder admitted Ortiz’s toughness after the fight:

“Luis Ortiz was one of those fighters that everyone ducked, even champions ducked him. I wondered why it took so long for him to get a title shot and now we know.”

Speaking on a possible title unification with either IBF/WBA Heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua or WBO champion Joseph Parker, Wilder said:

“I’m ready right now. I always said that I want to unify. I’m ready whenever those guys are. I am the baddest man on the planet and I proved that tonight. This solidified my position at the top of the food chain tonight.”

Joshua and Parker will be meeting to unify their titles on March 31 at the Principality stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

Boxing fans will be hoping that the winner of that fight will step-up to the Deontay Wilder challenge and we can then have an undisputed champion of the heavyweight division.

It is hard to predict a Joshua fight.

I watched Wilder and Ortiz fight. Wilder has greatly improved. Initially I used to regard him weakly because he punches like a woman. But the fight with Ortiz was tough. It also shows that Wilder and Joshua have one thing in common - the never say never spirit. Joshua came off the canvas to knock out Klischko while Wilder survived a 7th round scare to smash Ortiz in the 10th round.

Between Wilder and Joshua, I would give it to the man who comes into the fight more determined. Like I said earlier, it is hard to predict Joshua's fight. He is not a very skillful fighter and his footwork is nonsense and he gets tired easily but he has been difficult to stop so far.

Yes, he keeps throwing wildly. But he impressed me against Ortiz. But if I were to choose a winner between him and Joshua, I would pick Joshua over him. I would pick Parker to also beat him.

I am talking about skills. Takam who has fought both Joshua and Parker admits that Parker has the faster hands. Moreover, Parker throws the cleaner shot and if he can get one against Joshua who just does not know how to dodge well, I am sure Joshua would be rattled.

Wilder is wild and aggressive , but a very calculated boxer can knock him down too soon ... His punches are scary though !!!

I can't wait to see him and Joshua, I think Joshua perseverance and Naija spirit will make him win but its a 50-50 sha!!!

Nah, I just watched the fight and I conclude , AJ will always knock Deontay out anyday !!!
