Hold on a bit and get the Redmi note 5 pro instead.
The difference between redmi 5 plus and note 5 pro is basically camera and the snapdragon 636 instead of 635. Every other thing is the same, meanwhile the bump in cash would be significantly higher. That's the reason I stopped reasoning it

I'd go with Redmi 5 Plus. Mi max 2 is taller and wider than the Galaxy Note 4 that is already wide, it would be an adjustment. On the Redmi 5 plus, you have a bigger screen on a smaller form factor. Also the 18:9 bezel-less design makes it look like it's way more expensive than the Mi Max 2.
This is exactly what I was thinking. I like the mi max 2 but I'm scared of that size/form factor.
My galaxy note 4 is already straining the limit of my pockets so how do I hope to fit in the mi max 2... Especially in lagos here where boys won't hesitate to chukk hand in your pocket and collect anything that is showing face small.

Plus redmi 5 plus looks more premium like you said. The only thing I'm worried about in the redmi 5 plus is the battery life. If I can get 7 hrs screen on time and upwards then I'm okay

I dunno if anybody is using it here and can gimme an idea from their own personal experience. I don't trust YouTube reviewers and their nonsense exaggerations

This is the main reason some of us have decided not to use a phone bigger than 5.4 inches (total size and not screen size).
Thanks to the modern phones with little or no bezels, we can now have more screen size per inch of phone than before.
I will advice you get a phone that was released within the last four months or that will be released soon.

SD625 and SD636 are 1 year apart in technology. Watch some comparison videos. The price difference is justified.

Well there are battery tests on Youtube. Gsmarena also has their own standardized test. I use the RN 4X and the battery life is the best i've ever used(I've used a lot of phones). Now i trust Gsmarena battery ratings to an extent.

One thing is sure, if you're not absolutely obsessed with massive displays and battery life, the extra price you're paying for the the Mi Max 2 is NOT worth it.

More like, the difference between the Samsung Galaxy s6 and s9 is basically camera, a taller screen, and Exynos 9810 instead of Exynos 7420. You see, these are the main factors that distinguish phones, they are mainly why some phones are called low end, while others are called high end.

Whether you go with the Mi Max 2 or Redmi 5plus, can guarantee you you'll get one of the best battery performance you have ever seen in a phone.

Isn't S9 three times the price of S6? I don't think Redmi 5 plus and Note 5 pro would have more than $70 price difference.

At first, the phone entered fast boot. but it was staying too long on that screen (about 10+ mins). then I tried a soft reset holding the power button plus volume up button. then the phone vibrated a the next screen I saw was the one below. full of Chinese characters that I don't understand. now I don't know what to press. gurus in the house please help. thanks

the only English words I can make out from the screen are 'fastboot', 'recovery', 'download'. at the dark bottom area, there is FAIL:FAIL:ATA, FAIL, FAIL:MANUAL, then there is 28% which I suspect is the battery percent.

I will Google xiaomi fastboot to see what comes up.

problem again: tried removing phone case, it entered fastboot. waited for over 10mins, no response, then tried holding volume up + power button, phone vibrates then it showed the Chinese screen.

solution, then hold the power button till phone restarts.
result: problem solved.

thanks.
