Cult ; a person or thing that is popular or fashionable among a particular group or section of society.

And yeah most especially not a country with over 360 languages..
Please you still don't make sense. If Yoruba becomes popular and fashionable what then is the disadvantage you are talking about when students are taught in Yoruba Language

I have already warned them.
They should pass my threat to Ambode

I don't have a problem with them teaching Yoruba language in my son's school but they dare not translate other subjects to Yoruba to teach him.
What rubbish is that.
They dare, who are you if I may ask? Don't you have home, or they bannish you and your kids away from arochukwu.

Exactly in the 80s and 90s, Wednesday was our Yoruba speaking day. In Mayflower were I attended, even Assembly was conducted in Yoruba on Wednesdays, speeches by SS3 student on Wednesday was in Yoruba. Guess what I had an A2 in both Yoruba and English Language, I passed English because I understood Yoruba better. I have known the national anthem and pledge in Yoruba since 1991 when I was in JSS1. We all know the kind of success Mayflower churned out year in year out. Ambode has done nothing new or special. All the Hausa and Igbo student in my school passed Yoruba glowingly.

Thank you for this, your head dey there sister. But that's so many years ago ooo- 26+years to be precise.

My wife also went to Mayflower, she's core Igbo (Anambra) and she learnt Yoruba so well that I feel she can write in it better than I can. And for the records, she's so fluent in Igbo and also superb in English Language. In fact, I feel she had more advantage in languages than I am. I even told her that our kids must speak Yoruba, Igbo, English and French fluently. Also, I observed that being multi-lingual helps in no small deal in smartness.

[b] As an Igbo man, one thing I will never understand about Yoruba's is why they claim to be so great and sophisticated yet have no sense of self determination.

A Yoruba man wants to promote, his culture, his language, his sense of identity. All well and good, why drag others unwilling participants into it? If Yorubas as are great, are they not agitating for Oduduwa Republic? Why do they need "One Nigeria"? What is your claim to greatness when you cannot stand on your own? But if an Ojukwu rises in the East to fight for the freedom of his people, a Yoruba man will say "Ojukwu was a fool for fighting, he should have joined Awolowol to lick the a$$ of the North to avoid war"
Or when an Nnamdi Kanu rises up to agitate for freedom. Every Yoruba man will suddenly become an "Nnamdi Kanu critic" and tell everyone that they know the best way to go about actualising self determination. The same Yoruba man cannot tell anyone how he will ever achieve restructuring in Nigeria, since the dissppearance of Kanu, restructuring has died away

Who is dragging you. Is Lagos in igboland? This is the law of the land. If you can't fake it, go back to your village. Go and tell Korea, Japan, Indonesia, India, Germany, Spain, France, Dutch that they are not educated. If you do not have respect for your own language and culture, it is non of our business. This is our own, it has been, so shall it be. You can jump into lagoon for all we care.

It should be replicated across the country.
State govts should employ only those with credits in their state's indigenous languages.

I also expect the local content initiative especially in the oil sector to be driven by state policy, I. E ,only someone who can speak any language from delta state should work in the state in any sector.

That is the end product I foresee, which may be even be a blessing in disguise.

Though, i expect these yoruba tribalists to later accuse others of tribalism when the consequences begin.

Awolowo introduced tribalism into Nigeria., while his people today accuse others of tribalism because others like the igbos, can now beat them to the game.
Mumu, what consequences. How many Yorubas did you see complaining since when igbo language has been made compulsory in igboland. Same way you refused a northerner to become councillor in ebonyi but want to be rep in Lagos. Are you sure you are OK?

I will be glad if what you said is done; if you can't speak a Niger-Deltan language, no job for you. But, if you think the Yoruba's will be be angered by that, then you're acutely ill-informed. The most likely people to be angered are CERTAINLY Igbos! They are the one's who always feel disadvantaged when decisions are made in people's enclaves.

I believe this so called bylaw will only be optional to non Yoruba speakers, more like an elective course of action for Yoruba speakers or anyone enthusiastic about learning the national anthem in Yoruba, I don't see any big deal in it, culture and language have to preserved either way.

So why dont you Yorubas then fight to turn Yoruba land into an independent nation such Korea, Japan snd Indonesia?

So what is means is that tomorow, Gwari people will tell everyone in Abuja to start singing the national Anthem in Gwari language because Abuja belongs to the Gwari people?

Laughable

Yoruba is more important than English language,
English is a colonialist European language not African.

We are in Africa and must speak our African languages more................ smiley

This is very wrong move in multi-ethnic nation, Yoruba is starting what will bring down Nigeria

Very good move as long is done for igbos

When they migrated into our lands beyond what was expected you didn't complained

They call our lands "A no man's land"

they forcefully imposed eze ndigbo in Yoruba lands

They have voted against Yoruba's in politics all ramifications.

They are the Number one enemy of d Yoruba people that hosted them

Brother you haven't seen anything yet, very soon we shall show this ingrates their footsteps back to their papa lands.
