Onyeama served as Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria from 1964 to 1967. His contemporaries on the Supreme Court included Sir Adetokunbo Ademola, Sir Lionel Brett, Sir Vahe Bairamian, Justice G.B.A. Coker, Justice M.O. Ajegbo, and Justice Chike Idigbe.[3]

From 1967 to 1976,[4] Onyeama served as Judge on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in Hague, Netherlands. He was succeeded at the ICJ by Taslim Olawale Elias.

From 1982 to 1990, he served as a Judge at the World Bank Administrative Tribunal. (Wiki)

And OBVIOUSLY, Elias became PRESIDENT in "1 9 8 2"

What's the fuss about??

I eventually removed the president or head of ICJ claims from your mouth, so you are now willing to settle for who was judge first, yet it wasn't an African feat as you already mentioned Isaac Forster who was the first African Judge on the ICJ, while Elias was the first African President and head of ICJ.

And I did not bring myself here as I was mentioned on 2 comments by Igbos on the first page, who were gloating and wanted me to be a witness as I had bruised their ego on the thread where Kenneth Dike was discussed.

Even those who mentioned me would now wish they never did, as I once again ridiculed their lesser achievement with the fact of Taslim Olawale Elias' superior achievement far back in 1982.

In a struggle for a throwback to historical feats, think wisely before you engage me, or attempt to debate me with your fictions.

I will sting you dead, but you would have gained enlightenment like you eventually did, however mentally handicapped you are.
oga stop vetting ur frustrated anger unnecessarily.

Your insecurity brought you here, not any mention.

Me and you know how handicapped u were conceived.

Justice Chile Eboe- Osuji President of the World Court/International Court of Justice at the age of (56) Fifty- Six.

We don't do buhari/Osinbanjo, Our achievement comes at our younger age.

E.g Emeka Anyaoku Commonwealth Secretary-General at the age of (57) Fifty- Seven.

ICC is different from ICJ

Don't get it twisted Sir.

I have set some of them on a journey of no return.

They have been searching for information painstakingly, trying to disprove the superior accomplishment of a Yoruba man as the first ever African to be president and head of the more superior ICJ.

They have been reading the same information I have read years ago, but their minds is playing tricks on them, and making them embarrass themselves before me as I puncture the fables they have presented to nullify my assertion on Taslim Elias' yet to be equaled achievement.

Oga, I like your enthusiasm but you really need to conduct more research. cheesy Yes, Charles Dadi Onyeama was appointed a Judge of the ICJ before Teslim Elias, but he was never President of the ICJ, unlike Elias. At the time Onyeama served as one of the Judges of the ICJ from 1967 - 1976, the President of the ICJ at that time was José Bustamante y Rivero of Peru who served from 1967 - 1970. Rivero himself was actually appointed as a Judge of the ICJ in 1961.

In 1973 - 1976, Manfred Lachs of Poland served as President of the ICJ, after Rivero's tenure ended. Lachs got into the ICJ as a Judge in 1967. His deputy, was Fouad Ammoun of Lebanon who served as Vice-President of ICJ from 1970–1976.

Now, Teslim Elias was appointed a Judge at the ICJ in 1976, and his tenure ended in 1991. But in 1982, Elias was appointed as President of the ICJ in 1982 and held the post for 3 years, until 1985. Before then, he had served as Vice-President of the ICJ from 1979 - 1982.

So in actual fact, Justice Chile Eboe- Osuji is the first Nigerian President of the ICC, while Elias is the first Nigerian President of the ICJ.

We welcome the Igbos for catching up with the Yorubas again.

Google Taslim Olawale Elias (first African to be president of the World Court/International Court of Justice as far back as 1982), then you can stop gloating after you realise that catch-up is your eternal destiny.

If you do not know, the World Court is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations.

While I celebrate with the Igbos on their lesser achievement with the ICC, I will felicitate with them when they finally attain by catch-up, the superior merit that the Yorubas attained in 1982.

There is NO catching up here. Both Elias and Onyema were International judges of the SAME ERA and generation. So there is no question of igbo catch up. Let me tell you NOW, the Igbos are far higher and greater than the yorubas. The World knows that. No amount of dick measuring will change that.

It does not matter who was president. The fact that Onyema was appointed International Judge first shows that the Yorubas are Not ahead and were never ahead of igbos. That is what matters. An igbo man was Judge of the international court before a yoruba man. FACT.

Guy, go back through this thread. Start from the beginning and read through all the posts. cheesy The initial thought was that Justice Chile Eboe- Osuji was the first Nigerian, to become President of the ICC. The debate was not about who was the first judge appointed into the ICJ, but the debate was about who was the first to become the President of the ICJ. So why are you getting worked up? shocked

No,ICJ is like the Supreme court.
International Court of Justice
"World Court"
Not to be confused with International
Criminal Court or International
Commission of Jurists .

ICC= magistrate court..

Don't mistake the lesser and recently created ICC for the ICJ/World Court.

The Igbo Chile Osuji has been appointed president of the ICC not the esteemed World Court/ICJ.

1982, that was just 12 years after the civil war. 12 years is just damn too small to even become a mere Chief Judge of a State.

If you remove 5 years in the university, 1 year in the Law school, another 1 year in NYSC, you will be left with 5 years which is even small to rise to a senior position in some Law firms in the country.

Afonja, do am now make we see. I get am before no be property.

You are far higher and greater, yet your first lawyer Louis Mbanefo qualified in 1935 when many Yorubas had already been lawyers before 1900?
Catch-up is your destiny.

You are far higher, yet the first Igbo doctor Akanu Ibiam qualified in 1934, many decades after multitudes of Yoruba doctors before 1900.

When Yoruba Doctors and Engineers were working in the colonial service as professionals before 1900, the few educated Igbos who were literate enough to read and write, were working as clerks in far flung places in the North where they could be useful without competition from the locals. Those who could not read and write were working as domestic servants to the British in the West and Lagos, who were sure that documented matters of state could not be comprehended by your forebears.

When multitudes of secondary schools were already established in Yorubaland and even Calabar, the first secondary school in Igboland was established in 1925.

I once gave a challenge to a boastful Igbo who made an outlandish claim that when Igbos were educated, Yorubas were illiterate farmers. I asked that she should name 10 Igbo Doctors and 10 Igbo Lawyers before 1900, and I will name 20 each for the Yorubas before 1900. Eventually I reduced it to 5 and then just 3 university graduates from Igbo land who were contributing to their society before 1900.

Till today, no proud Igbo including the one that boasted, have been able to mention just 3 Igbo university graduates as at 1900 when Yoruba Doctors, Lawyers and Engineers were illiterate farmers and contributing their professional services to their Yoruba communities.

Maybe you will be brave enough to undertake this mission impossible, since you also know how to boast.
