Yeah,if only NYSC helps ones career and future I would have advised you to do it.Not a tough choice,if I were in your shoes when i was about going for NYSC I will have chosen the USA option.
One thing I found out is that traveling for most middle class and below families is usually an opportunity that you may only have one shot at...if you don't take your chance it may never happen again especially if someone is sponsoring you.
Do u plan returning to Nigeria? What conversation have u had with the family assisting you in USA about that topic?
I completed NYSC...i never got any job opportunity/interview to even mention that I have the certificate self..eventually fled naija,I am forever glad I did.
I hope u make the best decision and u do not regret your choice. Best wishes to you.

You are very correct. Delay your NYSC, go for your MSC and then return for your NYSC later (I. E if you want to base in Nigeria fully).

Op, in your own understanding you plan coming back to this shithole after doing your masters in the state? Please make sure you say good bye to everyone you know before leaving, letting them know you are not coming back. Go ask you those that passed out century ago what they have achieved with their NYSC.
Meanwhile my regards to Trump, tell him we appreciate him for sending Tillerson back to his route as we plan to send baba to cattle colony

Hello Everyone,
I am a fresh graduate from a reputable Federal Polytechnic in Nigeria, I graduated in 2017 and I am supposed to go for youth service this year (2018 Batch A Corps) which will commence soon. But I have an issue bothering me which I need a good advice on.

Last year 2017 my sister who is in USA for close to 12 years wanted me to come and hustle abroad but it's not easy for youth to go there but through schooling, so she helped me to find a good public University to do Masters, I have done the necessary processing and I have been offered an admission for the Fall Semester starting August 2018, my Visa has also been granted.

The issue on ground now is that I want to have the NYSC certificate, probably if I can runs it as a ghost Corper and get the certificate on my behalf or if an exemption can be possible.

Please I need your sincere advice. Thanks.

Travel abroad and forget that nonsense called NYSC. Imagine you got posted to Kano or Sokoto and their madness start. Abroad na sure pass o. Decide now before your village people will know you have been granted a visa. wink

Go for your masters abroad.
Come back for your NYSC and if after your masters you are above 30, opt for exemption letter.

VERY SIMPLE!!!

I'll only advise you to do your masters abroad.....you said everything is ready. Here in nigeria, 80% of those that served have not even secured job.......so I'll advise you to go for masters instead of service.....only few have this kind of opportunity

Jump on that plane to save your generation and future. I am a living proof, skipped service for Europe and I am better off today while most of my mates who served are still looking for their way in the jungle.

I will never recommend to anyone to immigrate to the USA as an illegal alien. I get into trouble for that on here and labelled as "enemy of progress", etc.

You pursued a student visa and you secured it, then you have to go. It doesn't speak well for you to have people running through hoops for you and then you abandon their sweat.

So many people think that America of today is America of Bill Clinton before 9/11. Even student visa to the US isn't paying again. I know of two people that went to the US under student visa and we're shocked when they were told to go home after graduation.

Canada is the only place that is paying for now.

Madam,
no offense but,

you already have the answer to your question!!
If you can run it as a ghost corper then what's stopping you

Don't, I repeat, don't trow away this golden opportunity all in the name of serving a county that has no plans for you whatsoever.

Go abroad if you have papers and can make them permanent, you can always go for your NYSC at any age as long as you graduated before the age of 30.

My 2 cents.

My dear a relative faced a similar dilemma around 20 years ago. My advice (along with some other family members) was that he should do his NYSC and defer his going for master's abroad. He did and went abroad the following year. Today he's one of the younger members with a high position in the party ruling in his state. He's making impact at grass root, doing things under his political office portfolio. He still has that foreign mind of keeping promises. At least for now. Hope he keeps it up.

He established abroad before returning temporarily, but may become permanent. He maintains all he established abroad from 9ja right now. Family still abroad too. Now he's set to keep rising. Already eyeing a federal position.

Nigeria might not be great right now, but still try to do things legally, lest we be worse than the old cargo leaders we lambast daily here on NL.
