★★SIMPLE METHODS TO GET FLAT TUMMY AFTER CHILD BIRTH★★

It's only natural to want to jump straight back to your pre-pregnancy shape. But you need to give yourself a break because your body just made a baby, and it will need time to recover and get back in shape.

If you've had a normal vaginal delivery you should wait until after your 6-week checkup to begin your journey to flat tummy.
If you've had a C-Section, you should wait 8 weeks but you should get a clearance from your doctor before embarking on any form of exercise.

★BUT HERE ARE SOME SIMPLE WAYS INTO GETTING YOUR SHAPE BACK★

√Breastfeed your baby, breastfeeding can improve your weight loss.
√Drink hot water and lemon.
√Try a day going gluten-free or dairy-free.
√Replace your usual snack with pineapple. Pineapple has bromelain that can assist in digestion by breaking down proteins in the stomach.
√Keep an eye on your sodium intake.
√Eat slowly.
√Stop chewing gum.
√Stay away from fizzy drinks.
√Eat more fibre.
√Keep an eye on portion sizes i.e eat small portion of food at a time.
√Eat your three square meals, don't skip meals especially breakfast.
√Snack more on nuts and fruits especially pineapple
√Avoid anything alcohol
√Drink peppermint tea
√Skip desserts because it's full of sugar and sweeteners
√Practice kegel exercices
√Rest

★★OBSTETRICS EMERGENCY DURING PREGNANCY★★

An obstetric emergency may arise when a woman is pregnant, or during her delivery. In this case, extra care is needed.

A woman may need a lot of tests and treatments, and extended hospital stays during this period because she may face a premature birth or the loss of her baby. If you think you or your unborn baby are at risk, call your doctor or go to the hospital immediately.

If you experience any of the following obstetrics emergency symptoms, call your doctor or go to the hospital immediately. Don’t wait until your next prenatal visit.

√Less movement by the baby:
In the late third trimester, a baby may be distressed if it moves fewer than 10 times in two hours.

√Vaginal bleeding:
Abnormal vagina bleeding. Brown, white or pink vaginal discharge is normal during pregnancy. But bright red blood or large blood clots are not normal.

√Leaking amniotic fluid.
When waters break, they may gush or trickle. You can tell amniotic fluid (which looks a lot like urine) by its slightly sweet smell.

√Severe abdominal pain:
Stomach or lower back pain can be signs of pre-eclampsia or an undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy.

√Convulsions/fits

√Severe headaches with blurred vision

√Fever and too weak to get out of bed:
Fever which may indicate infection.

√Fast or difficult breathing.

Pregnancy is a normal and natural process. Most women do not experience emergencies during pregnancies, but any woman could.

★★WHAT TO DO TO MAKE BREASTMILK FLOW AFTER DELIVERY★★

To make breastmilk flow after delivery is a simple task from pregnancy. Start taking care of your breast by cleaning gently with cotton cloth or towel.

★FOR MORE FLOW OF BREASTMILK★

-Put your baby up to your breast by using your nipple to “tickle” her mouth until she opens up wide, then insert your breast up to your areola. Repeat until you have a good latch.

-Continue breastfeeding

-Pump your breastmilk after nursing, it helps milk production

-Eat oatmeal, a bowl of oats in the morning means full breasts at night

-Switch sides by making sure baby nurse on both breast

-Wear the right size of bra, wrong bra can compress your breasts and causes issues with milk flow

- Do not offer any form of feeding like infant formula, agbo, drugs or water

-Make sure you’re getting plenty of protein (which keeps you full and your blood sugar levels stable), good fats (butter, avocado, eggs, fresh vegetables, nuts and seeds.

-Take more warm beverages, tea, milk, soups

-Use hot compress to massage the back of your neck

-Drink warm water early in the morning.

★★★YOUR BABY'S MOVEMENT DURING PREGNANCY: What's Normal?

I've heard concerns about baby's movement from pregnant moms-to-be about baby not moving nearly as much as normal or baby was moving far too much.

What is considered “normal” for a baby’s movement during pregnancy varies widely as each pregnancy is unique, so are the baby’s movements. Try not to compare this pregnancy to previous ones or that of your coworker or your friend.

★QUICKENING★ I love this word...
'Quickening' describes the feeling of the first movement of baby's between 16-22 weeks of pregnancy. It feels like little tender butterflies randomly fluttering their wings inside your womb (uterus). But If you are not feeling the baby move every day by 24 weeks notify your doctor or midwife.

★MOVEMENT COUNTS★

After 28 weeks, your baby should have 6 distinct movement an hour once a day and NOT need to move 6 times EVERY hour, BUT should have one active hour each day.

Reasons baby stops moving which could be an early sign that he is in distress:

√The baby may be tangled in the cord
√You may have too little amniotic fluid.

These complications can be very serious.

★★★Please, if you haven’t felt your baby moving normally, then drink some fruit juice and rest on your left side for an hour and pay close attention to his activity. If you do not get 6 distinct movements or kicks over that hour, call your doctor or go to the hospital right away.

Baby’s movement can depend on a couple of factors such as:

★Location of the placenta.
When the placenta is attached to the front of the uterus, it essentially creates a pillow between her and the baby. This makes it more difficult to feel the movements regularly.

★The mother's weight.
This can also affect perception of movement if you are overweight and have extra fat in the belly, you may not feel the movements as distinctly or could barely feel any movements throughout pregnancy.

★★Again, having one active hour a day or night is what is important. It doesn’t need to be the same hour each day★★

★★DO YOU HAVE THIS AS YOU ARE PREGNANT NOW★★

It is called vericose veins!!!

It is relatively common during pregnancy and usually painless and harmless. It is just another occupational hazard of being a mom-to-be.

And don't worry after delivery they'll shrink along with the rest of you.

As your uterus grows, it puts pressure on the large vein on the right side of your body i.e the inferior vena cava, thus increasing pressure in your leg veins.

You may have also noticed tiny blood vessels near the surface of the skin, especially on your ankles, legs, or face.

★★★HERE ARE WHAT YOU SHOULD DO!!

★Avoid remaining in any position that might restrict the circulation in your legs (such as crossing your legs while sitting)
★Elevate your legs and feet periodically to improve circulation.
★Sleep on your left side.
★Do NOT injure it
★Do NOT scratch on it
★Do NOT massage on it
★Watch your weight by Keeping your weight gain during pregnancy down to what it is recommended
★You can bandage it lightly or wear a pregnant stockings
★Avoid standing or sitting in one place for long periods.
★It's important to get up and move around often.
★Exercise regularly.

★★★MY PREGGOS, IF YOU GO FOR ANTENATAL CARE, DO YOU GET ONE, TWO, THREE OR ALL OF THESE CHECKS....OR NONE AT ALL★★★

1. Palpation: To assess the fetal size and growth
To detect deviations from the normal
To locate the fetal parts to indicate position and presentation
To auscultate the fetal heart

2. An alternative method often used to assess your baby’s growth is to measure the size of the womb with a tape measure. The measurement is then applied to the gestation by a simple rule of thumb which is compared with normal growth.

3. Doppler machine: To find the fetal heartbeat and detect blood flow to detect blood circulation to mother's uterus and placenta.

4. Auscultation: This is another method in listening to the fetal heartbeat. Women should be offered auscultation at each visit from the time midwives and doctors can detect a heartbeat.

★★★HAVE YOU TAKEN YOUR TETANUS SHOT IN THIS PREGNANCY

The Tetanus Toxoid (TT) vaccine is given during pregnancy to prevent the risk of tetanus to you as well as your unborn baby. Tetanus is a life-threatening bacterial disease that is caused by the toxin of a bacterium called Clostridium tetani.

The first dose shall be in your first contact when you register for Antenatal.

The second dose is given at least four weeks after the first.

The WHO (World Health Organisation) recommends that a third dose be given six months after the second dose to provide protection for at least five years.

How it is given:
It is given to into your left upper arm.
Do not rub on it.
If it becomes painful or swollen, apply a wet towel on it.
Do no massage it.

★★if you are not offered the TT injection, please ask for it★★

★★★YOUR RIGHT TO PREVENT MALARIA DURING PREGNANCY★★

Ask your Doctor or Midwife for your dose of IPT for Malaria Prevention During Pregnancy i.e. Fansidar tablets (3).

Malaria infection during pregnancy is a major public health problem, with substantial risks for the mother, her fetus and the neonate.

IPT for malaria prevention during pregnancy is a full therapeutic course of antimalarial medicine given to pregnant women at routine antenatal care visits, regardless of whether the woman is infected with malaria or not.

IPTp reduces maternal malaria episodes, maternal and fetal anaemia, placental parasitaemia, low birth weight, and neonatal mortality.

WHO (World Health Organisation) recommends this is given as early as possible in the second trimester (i.e. not during the first trimester).

Each IPTp i.e. SP dose should be given at least 1 month apart. WHO recommends at least 3 doses during each pregnancy.

It is given between 16 weeks after first fetal movements called 'quickening' to 32 weeks of pregnancy.

★★★HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR VEEJAY??

Sure, your veejay has been with you your entire life. Talking about it, is as much a taboo as talking about sex is, and hence we keep it all “hush hush”

You have been too shy to ask questions? How much do you actually know about it? Do you know you actually distrupt the normal floral (pH) of your veejay by introducing 'things' into it.

There are some surprising facts you may not know about your lady parts down there. From what to expect after childbirth to normal sexual functions, read on to find out.

★★It cleans itself★★
The vast majority of vaginal infections are self induced generally by women who think they're doing a good thing by washing their vagina with either soap and water, douche or antiseptic liquids.

While a little mild soap on the labia area is OK, your body does a fine job of keeping the insides clean.

★★Just like your face, your vagina also wrinkles with age★★
It's a fact of life. These changes, which are often related to decreasing levels of estrogen, do not affect how much pleasure your girl parts can bring you.

★★Your vagina may change dramatically after childbirth★★
If you're uncomfortable with the way your vagina has stretched and changed after childbirth, engage in Kegels exercise"These exercises can really help. You can do them anywhere, anytime.

***Just squeeze the muscles you use to start and stop the flow of urine, holding for a few seconds at a time, and repeating in sets of 10—or more, if you're up to the task!

★★The vagina is like a bicep muscle, use it or lose it★★
Not only does sex keep the sensitive vaginal tissue healthy. If you neglect your vagina for too long (no sex, no Kegel exercises, etc.), the vaginal walls can become fragile. And when menopause strikes, it may scar and close off a bit.

★★Vaginal discharge varies from woman to woman★★
You produce the greatest amount of discharge around the time of ovulation. Normal vaginal discharge is whitish, but may appear yellowish when it dries. But if it appears greenish when wet, you have itching or burning, your discharge smells extra-fishy or you think you're at risk for STDs, get it checked just to be on the safe side.

BE ON TOP OF YOUR GAME WITH THESE SIMPLE TIPS!!!

√Take yoghourt, cranberry juice, pineapple juice to improve the good bacteria down there, your veejay will thank you.
√Stop wearing too tight jeans or panties, allow your veejay to breath.
√Stop using your finger to bring out your discharge, by doing this, you can injure the lining of your vagina and introduce anaerobic bacteria and yeast which can cause symptoms like discharge, odor and itching.
√Choose cotton underwear or brands made from other natural fibers.
√Do not douche, douching throws off your natural scent, alters your PH and forces bacteria into your cervix.
√Clean the vaginal area often with water.
√Wipe yourself from front to back.
√Don't forget to urinate after sex
√Don't use soap or antiseptic liquids to wash your vagina
√Stop lining or pack your vagina with cotton wool or toilet roll
√Use panties liner
√Drink more water
√Don't hold your urine

★★★SWOLLEN FEET DURING PREGNANCY!!!

It's annoying right, your fancy slippers/shoes cannot fit into your beautiful legs again.

The swelling tends to get worse as a woman's due date nears, particularly near the end of the day and during hotter weather.

Those swollen ankles are normal, though frustrating. During pregnancy, the extra fluid in the body and the pressure from the growing uterus can cause swelling (or "edema") in the ankles and feet.

Although sudden swelling in the face or hands may be a sign of a condition known as preeclampsia, mild swelling of the ankles and feet is usually no cause for concern.

TO HELP REDUCE OR PREVENT THOSE ANNOYING SWOLLEN FEETS/ANKLES

★Avoid standing for long periods.
★Avoid crossing your legs when sitting
★Stretch often when sitting for long periods.
★Put your legs on pillows to raise them above your heart while lying down.
★Exercise your legs.
★Follow a low-salt diet, which may reduce fluid buildup and swelling.
★Wearing maternity support stockings (sold at most drugstores and medical supply stores) before getting out of bed in the morning
★Lie on your left side when sleeping.
★Rest with your feet elevated.
★Wear comfortable shoes, avoiding high heels if possible
★Avoid tight fitting sandals/slippers
★Drink plenty of water. (This may sound odd, but if your body feels it is dehydrated, it will try to retain even more fluid.)
★Swim or stand in a pool up to your neck.
★Try to stay cool in humid or hot weather.

****Please if you notice swelling of your face, around your eyes, or more than mild swelling of the hands, let your doctor know right away.

****If you have sudden swelling anywhere or if one leg is more swollen than the other please inform your doctor.

PUSHING THE BABY OUT (This is the second stage of labour)

Your baby is almost at the finishing line — but getting there is going to take a bit of PUSHING. Things are about to change.

HOW DO YOU PUSH YOUR BABY OUT?

★★Push as if you're having a bowel movement. Relax your body and thighs and push as if you’re having the biggest BM of your life, put all your concentration and focus into the pushing — not into worrying about whether you'll be emptying your bowels or passing urine while you're at it (that happens to every delivering mom)

★★Tuck your chin to your chest. If you're propped up on your back, make sure you put your chin to your chest to push. This will help you focus your pushes to where they need to be. It might also help to look down below your navel so you remember where your pushes should originate from. Give it all you’ve got. The more efficiently you push and the more energy you pack into the effort, the more quickly your baby will make the trip through the birth canal.

★★ Stay focused. Maintain control and try to avoid frantic pushing, too, I'm sure you don't want to push with your upper body or strain your face (this could actually leave you with black or bloodshot eyes or bruises on your face and not the best look for those first snapshots with baby

★★Trust your instinct. Take a few deep breaths while the contraction is building so you can gear up for pushing. As the contraction peaks, take a deep breath and then push with all of your might — holding your breath or exhaling as you do... whatever feels right to you (Actually, you’ll deliver even if you don’t follow your urges or if you don’t have urges at all; if you’re concerned, ask your doctor or midwife to help direct your efforts).

★★Rest between contractions. You'll need to conserve your energy and rest up for the next round — pushing is labour intensive.

★★Stop pushing as instructed. Your practitioner may suggest you stop pushing for a couple of contractions so you can regain some strength or to keep baby’s head from being born too rapidly.

★★If you’re feeling the urge to push, pant or blow instead. Keep watching your baby’s head crown (and reaching down and touching it) may give you the inspiration to push when it gets tough.

★★Keep in mind, though, that pushing is a two steps forward one step backward process — so don't become frustrated when your baby's head crowns and then disappears again you're within shouting distance of the finish line now.

NOTE THIS PLEASE:

While you’re pushing, the midwife or doctor will give you support and direction while continuing to monitor baby’s heartbeat (with a Doppler or fetal monitor). They will also prepare for delivery by spreading sterile drapes and arranging instruments, wearing surgical garments and gloves, and sponging your perineal area with antiseptic.

If necessary — though these procedures are performed rarely these days — they’ll perform an episiotomy.

★★★LEG CRAMPS DURING PREGNANCY!!!

Now that SLEEP is becoming increasingly difficult thus making you toss and turn all night long, and now something else is keeping you up at night which is leg cramps.

Leg cramps have a way of radiating up and down your legs – ouch.

The problem with leg cramps is that doctors don’t know what causes them. Cramping is very common during pregnancy. Most doctors just assume that it’s part of pregnancy.

SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE WAYS TO FIGHT LEG CRAMPS!

★Stretch Your Calves:
Try stretching your calf muscles regularly during the day and several times before you go to bed.

★Don't stand or sit with legs crossed for long periods of time or pointing your toes.

★ Rotate your ankles and wiggle your toes whenever you sit down, eat dinner, or watch TV.

★Take Supplement like calcium or magnesium

★Drink More Water to stay hydrated

★Stay active with brisk walking, swimming, house chores

★Buy new shoes:
Comfortable shoes that are wide enough for your feet are recommended and may provide you with some relief from cramping.

★Take warm bath before bed

★Massage:
You can massage the cramped muscles with ice or cold compress to reduce pain.

★Elevate Your Feet:
Doing this will take some pressures off the feet and legs which can cause fatigue and potential cramps.

★Avoid lying on your back, since the weight of your body and the pressure of your enlarged uterus can slow the circulation in your legs, causing cramps.

★Have bananas, raw avocadoes, baked potatoes, cooked spinach and skimmed milk to increase your intake of potassium.

★You can have tender coconut water to regain the lost electrolyte balance and thus reduce muscle cramps to a great extent.

★Reduce salt intake to prevent fluid retention in the body. This can cause swollen ankles.

★★★ITCHY BELLY DURING PREGNANCY★★★

Imagine scratching your belly all the time!!

This could seem weird to the onlookers, but only a pregnant woman can understand how difficult it is to control the urge to scratch an itching belly during pregnancy.

While you may get temporary relief when you scratch, the big question is if you should scratch or not scratch.

Do not SCRATCH but RUB on it to avoid stretching your skin the more.

Yes, it is quite normal for the growing belly to be itchy due to the stretching skin. In some cases, your breasts, palms, and soles turn itchy too. This happens due to the hormonal changes and skin conditions that develop as your pregnancy progresses.

★★★HOW TO AVOID ITCHY BELLY DURING PREGNANCY!!!

1. Avoid hot water bath or showers as they can trigger itchiness.

2. Do not use strong smelling soaps and gels as they lead to dry skin.

3. Use mild soap or shower gels that are gentle on the skin.

4. Wear loose clothing that is clean and dry.

5. Avoid tight and wet clothes to prevent it rubbing against the skin.

6. Do not stay in the sun or hot weather as they can dry the skin, leading to itchiness.

7. Moisturize your skin frequently and adequately.

8. Avoid being in the AC for long periods as that too can dry your skin and lead to itchiness and irritation.

9. Drink enough water (about eight to ten glasses a day) as it hydrates your body and moisturizes your skin naturally.

★★★SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES TO CALM ITCHY BELLY★★★

★Calamine lotion:
Apply small amounts of calamine lotion on the itchy stomach several times in a day. Calamine contains zinc carbonate, zinc, and iron oxides which help relieve itchy skin.

★Baking soda bath:
You can make a paste of baking soda (not baking powder) and water, apply on the tummy and other itchy areas.

★Aloe vera gel:
Use aloe vera gel to all those itchy and irritated skin areas soon after a shower. It will soothe and reduce inflammation.

★Cold compress:
Apply a cold compress on your tummy with a flannel or washcloth soaked in cold water to reduce the itchy sensation.

★Moisturize:
Rub a little moisturizer that is gentle and fragrance-free. Doing this frequently will temporarily relieve the itching.

★Coconut oil:
Coconut oil works wonder. Apply the oil on the itchy belly throughout your pregnancy to reduce/stop dryness and itchiness.

★Apple cider vinegar:
You can put some apple cider vinegar on the itchy tummy as it works perfectly in relieving irritation and dryness.

★★★URINE TEST DURING PREGNANCY(How important)★★★

At each antenatal visit, you will have to give your urine sample for routine test using a dipstick and when you are told there’s protein in your urine......

Your first instinct may be to panic right......having small amounts of protein in your urine is common in pregnancy.

It can happen for a number of reasons. It probably just means that your kidneys are working harder now that you're pregnant.

But having excess protein(proteinuria) in your urine can be a sign of a urinary tract infection (UTI), kidney damage, dehydration or certain other disorders.

Later in your pregnancy, it can also be a sign of preeclampsia if it's accompanied by high blood pressure.

SOME NATURAL WAYS TO HELP PREVENT PREECLAMPSIA

★Maintain a Healthy Weight.
★Get Regular Exercise.
★Eat a Healing Diet to Reduce Blood Pressure Levels.
★Prevent Dehydration and Fatigue.
★Keep Up with Antenatal and Doctor Visits.

WHAT CAN GET RID OF PROTEIN IN YOUR URINE

★Start eating right be keeping tract of amount of protein you consume.
★Drink plenty of water to flush out and remove excess proteins from your kidney and body.
★Add more fiber from fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole-grains, such as whole grain bread and high-fiber cereal.
★Limit high-fat dairy, including milk, yogurt, frozen desserts, cream cheese and sour cream.

HEY! DO YOU HAVE STRETCH MARKS DURING PREGNANCY!!

Yes, we all dread them…. and yet we are told there is nothing we can do about it. It’s genetic, my mum has it, my sister has it!

Personally, I think our “mama marks” are beautiful. We’ve earned them, after all!

It is usually caused by the skin stretching during pregnancy, especially during the third trimester.

TOP 10 THINGS YOU CAN DO TO PREVENT STRETCH MARKS AS YOU ARE PREGNANT!!!

★Aloe Vera: The gellatin from aloe Vera works wonder
★Bio oil: Apply bio oil on your abdomen to reduce the stretch marks.
★A healthy diet: It’s best to start healing from the inside out. Good nutrition, balanced diet promotes healthy skin
★Don't eat for two: Don't eat for two to avoid more stretchy skin
★Moisturise with coconut oil: Coconut oil helps moisturising the skin thus preventing stretch marks
★Drink plenty water: Drink more plain water to stay hydrated
★Vitamin C: It is best to get Vitamin C from a natural food source instead of a supplement.
★Zinc can be found in abundance in chicken, lamb, beef, eggs, nuts, legumes, and whole grains.
★Shea butter or cocoa butter
★Watch your weight to avoid loosing the elasticity of your skin

NOTE:
★★★You really have to start practicing or using some of the above as early as you noticed you are pregnant and not when you start seeing stretch marks appear on your skin.

★★★WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON'T TAKE PRENATAL VITAMINS★★★

The vitamin in her hand can serve as an help to the baby in her womb. (Photo: iStock)

Considering the extra calories moms-to-be need, as well as crazy pregnancy cravings, odds are good your diet is not as healthy as you may think.

But think of your prenatal vitamins more like an insurance policy that can lower the risk of some complications, from anemia, preeclampsia to birth defects of the brain and spine.

You are encouraged as an expectant mom to take prenatal vitamins early in pregnancy or even during the process of TTC (Trying To Conceive).

“Not taking a prenatal vitamin means that you are not taking advantage of something that research has shown can make a relatively rare health issue even rarer,” according to Dr. Mary Jane Minkin.

Your nutrition needs go up during pregnancy, and a prenatal vitamin can help fill in any gaps.”

One of the most important gaps to fill has to do with folic acid. Not taking enough of this vitamin at the time of conception and in the first few weeks of pregnancy has been linked to brain and spine defects, since these body parts are formed early in the first trimester.

★★★ARE ROUTINE DRUGS COMPULSORY DURING PREGNANCY?★★★

Remember Whatever You Eat Can Adversely Affect Your Child During Pregnancy Either Negatively or Positively.

During pregnancy, the developing baby derives all its nutrients from the mother via the umbilical cord and the placenta which attaches to the baby and the womb respectively.

Folic acid and other drugs that are being given during routine antenatal visits are referred to as routine drugs.

★★★Advantages of Taking Routine Drugs:

★It increases immunity to fight against infections
★Prevents the occurrence of certain congenital birth defects
★Allows for a smooth delivery during labour.
★Also plays an important role in the development and growth of the growing foetus.
★Increase fetal red blood cells
★Development of the brain and cognitive functions
★Improve bone and teeth formation
★Improves immunity during pregnancy and after childbirth

Apart from all these drugs, there are sources of foods that are rich in giving the body all the nutrients needed if consumed regularly.

EFFECTS OF RHESUS FACTOR (- ) DURING PREGNANCY!

During your first antenatal appointment you will be offered a number of routine blood tests. One of such tests is to find out your blood group (A, B, AB or O) and your Rhesus status (- or +).

★Note: Your Rhesus factor is fixed by your GENES★

★★Does it matter if I'm Rhesus factor (-) and pregnant......

It only matters if you are a Rhesus- (negative) mum carrying a rhesus-positive baby, this means your baby will have inherited her Rhesus- (positive) status from her Rhesus- (positive) dad.

It is usually not harmful if it is your first pregnancy. But it can cause problems if you become pregnant again with another rhesus-positive baby.

The antibodies that your body made in your first pregnancy can quickly multiply, cross the placenta and attack the blood cells of your baby which could lead to:

★Hemolytic anemia, where red blood cells are destroyed faster than the body can replace them.

★Life threatening problems for your baby, such as heart failure, fluid retention and swelling.

★Haemolytic Jaundice where the baby's liver won't be able to cope with the volume of blood cells that needs breaking down.

★★★In severe cases, haemolytic jaundice can cause permanent brain damage and neurological problems in your baby, such as cerebral palsy, and physical or speech problems★★★

√√√√Anti-D immunoglobulin (anti-D) injection.

Given to guard against the harmful effects of antibodies at 28 weeks and 34 weeks of pregnancy but some some maternity units offer one higher-dose injection of anti-D at 28 weeks to 30 weeks pregnancy instead.

★★Please it is important to inform your doctor or midwife if you have any of the following★★

-Vaginal bleeding after 20 weeks.
-A threatened miscarriage, usually signalled by bleeding and cramps in early pregnancy, although the pregnancy then continues.
-A procedure performed to turn breech babies to a head-down position called external cephalic version (ECV).
-A blow to your tummy.
-A previous termination
-Ectopic pregnancy
-Miscarriage

★Please note: Rhesus - (negative) DOES not cause miscarriage★

WHY DO I SALIVATE (Spit) AS I'M PREGNANT??

It's a miserable side effect of pregnancy....In fact, some women need to spit so much that they have to carry a spit cup around with them.

It is quite annoying and difficult to treat, but it tends to subside in the latter half of pregnancy.

This can happen on its own but it is usually associated with nausea and vomiting i.e morning sickness during early pregnancy caused by hormones of pregnancy.

TIPS ON HOW TO STAY ON TOP OF YOUR GAME!!

★Brush your teeth with minty toothpaste and use mouthwash several times a day.

★Eat frequent small meals.

★Keep a bottle of water handy and take frequent sips to keep you hydrated.

★Suck on a hard candy or chew sugarless gum.

★Avoid sour candies and gum, as they can stimulate the production of saliva.

★Avoid consuming foods that are high in carbohydrates and are starchy.

★Eat crunchy fruits or veggies like apples and carrots.

★Get you oral checkups done regularly to prevent any dental or oral infections.

★Sniff/smell the back/peel of lemon or orange to help with nausea.

★Have a cup handy to spit into. Or stick a straw in an empty drinks can.......you can spit into it when people think you're sipping.

★Use tissues, or a flannel, to spit into and wipe your mouth.

Excess salivation is harmless.

★★NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF TIGHT CLOTHES ON PREGNANT WOMEN★★

Do you know wearing of tight clothes could lead to some discomfort on the already pregnancy state that causes a woman's body to change shape and size several times before the baby arrives?

Discomfort such as:

Heartburn:
The pressure from tight clothing can push on the stomach and force the contents upwards, creating heartburn.

Reduced circulation:
A woman can experience hypotension, or low blood pressure, easily while standing up quickly from a kneeling, sitting or lying position due to the effect of tight clothing.

Yeast Infection:
Vaginal secretion increases during pregnancy, but effect of wearing unbreathable clothing may increase vagina yeast infections more.

Pain:
Wearing tight-fitting clothes can cause pain in a number of areas of the body during pregnancy. This includes the abdomen, chest and arms.

★★Also tight-fitting bras can cause pain in the breasts, under the arms and the back especially underwired bras.

★★★CAN I DRINK COLD WATER WHILE PREGNANT★★★

PLEASE, will cold water affect my baby when I drink it?

Dr, I heard drinking cold water will make my baby to be very large

Ehen...Will drinking of cold water make my baby to be sneezing ....lots of such misconceptions because they are baseless.

Scientifically, it is always safe to consume cold drinks because whatever temperature the food or drinks is, when it reaches the stomach and intestine, it will change to body temperature. So taking cold drinks will not affect your growing baby.

★★★But always remember MODERATION is the KEY★★★

Pregnant women needs to drink more fluids during pregnancy to compensate for their increased blood volume and the fluid surrounding the baby.

Take precautions to avoid the following cold drinks:

★Avoid gassy or carbonated cold drinks
★Avoid artificial sweetened cold drinks
★Avoid carbonated drinks which are one of the common triggers of heartburn.
★Take cold milk and dairy products that provide a large amount of calcium needed to build the baby's bones and teeth.
★Avoid carbonated sodas, it contains caffeine, which in large amounts has been linked to miscarriage and also contains empty calories only!

I'M PREGNANT AND VOMITTING, HOW DO I DEAL WITH IT?

It is unfortunate that most pregnant women vomit at one point or another. In the process she can tear a part of the lining of the esophagus, leading to bleeding in case of severe vomitting.

Vomiting normally does not harm the fetus but could be nerve wrecking for the woman.

AVOID TRIGGERS LIKE:

√Fresh brewing coffee
√Raw or cooked meat
√Strong smelling hair spray
√Raw or cooked fish
√Other people's with body odour
√Garlic and onions
√Someone's bad breath,

HOW TO BE ON TOP OF YOUR GAME WITH VOMITTING!

-Water: Drink lots of water to keep you hydrated

-Ginger: Make ginger tea by boiling one teaspoon of grated ginger in one cup of water and add honey to it. Have one to two cups of tea in the morning.

-Lemon: Smell fresh lemon peel or leaf to ease vomiting and nausea.

-Apple Cider Vinegar: Add two or three teaspoons of ACV in warm water and have it as the first thing in the morning.

-Vitamin B6: Eat foods such as brown rice, avocados, banana, fish, and nuts

-Cracker: Have a box of crackers beside your bed and snack on them as soon as you wake up. It can stave off morning sickness.

-Add a few drops of peppermint essential oil over a handkerchief and inhale the vapors to get over the vomiting sensation

-Eat many small meals throughout day.

Talk to your doctor immediately if you:

✓Vomit way too often than on regular days.
✓Are tired or dehydrated after several episodes of vomiting.
✓Feel that the color of your vomit is different than usual, maybe too dark or yellow in color.
