January 2011, A young vibrant ,man I was, An unusually brilliant chap according to many. I was hired as a supervisor in a top multinational coy. The danish MD saw me as his little messiah. see me nah, hungry boy that grew up on the streets of PH. salary na better 6 digits, me sef never reach 26 years that time. One morning, I was cooling off in traffic somewhere in VI. Then suddenly my phone rang, it was coys HR. I have been realigned to go and work in Calabar. Brothers na so waka carry me enter cali, I carried out my task impeccably well and on the day i was supposed to depart, i received my promotion letter via email as new area manager. Na so God dey sha. Then from no where, the envy started running in torrents, whispers of dissenting voices slowly emanated. I entered into too many battle of wits and started writing for the removal of some folks, some were sacked, removed or realigned. In-fact, I was the most dreaded employee. Like they said, nothing lasts forever After about 5 years, It was time for my danish boss to retire, he did and relocated almost immidiately. One of my line managers, i disrespected a lot, was made a director, see gobe. my downfall has just begun. Everyday caution, query, suspension over trivial things. I knew my time would be certainly up someday, It was just a matter of when and how. I seeked numerous advice, even lobbied for a demotion So i can be away from the limelight, to enable me restrategise. all to no avail. One afternoon, I got a tip off that a senior colleague was visiting me, I smiled, ,finally my time has come, i dusted up my cabinet in preparation, And as I envisaged, it was my termination of appointment letter. As is slowly handed over all company's belongings. All that i did in the past, slowly played out before my eyes. They say men dont cry, my team erupted into a sober mood, tears rained. while to some, it calls for some bottle of beer. i wept, honestly i wept. Lesson Learnt i,choose when the time is right to be in the spotlight: sometimes its good, you hide under the cloak of someone else(a superior) he takes the heat/bashing while you learn. your weakness can easily be preyed upon if you find yourself in some positions. ii, Do not fight too many battles, You can never win all . (in my wildest dreams i never thought one of those guys will become a director) iii, Be humble-not timid, also pray to whatever God you worship. iv, Finally in your deeds with all men and God be fair and just. Early 2018, i was informed that those two guys who initiated my sack have been advised to resign, my response was, I refuse to rejoice over whatever puts a man to his kneels. life they say is a journey, what if i have the wealth of experience i have now, you cannever tell sha, the roads your destiny presents you with. Meanwhile OP now has two kids and he is doing really great. |

you got what you deserved. You type are the problem of this country. Because you were given a little power you decided to flex your muscles on anyone that opposes you. Now when they turned on you come out here to cry foul. |

Thank you for sharing this.
Humility is often difficult to possess when one is at the top.
Your experience is indeed a lesson to learn from. Keep your feet on the ground. |

"May we never learn from our own experience" I'm sorry you learnt from yours. And to the "boys" occupying top positions in organisations, i hope you are learning? |

Caustics:Na so we see am, o! They have forgotten that biblical piece of scripture - "wisdom is profitable, to direct." Each time I see such people, I laugh - because I know their day of reckoning is just round the corner. Nothing lasts forever. "Be nice to the people you meet on your way going up, you might meet them, on your way coming down." It is a wise saying. And a really true one. Karma may take its time coming, but it never misses its destination. |

For some reasons, I find the OP's tale to be very annoying. For a 'brilliant' chap, it beats my imagination as to how one would write something of such using 'i' instead of 'I' in many instances. Power in the hands of the unenlightened and immature is a disaster waiting to happen any day. Early 2018, i was informed that those two guys who initiated my sack have been advised to resign, my response was, I refuse to rejoice over whatever puts a man to his kneels. Two Karmas would play play out here. One has already taken place in the guise of your line seeing that you are taken care of. The other is waiting to happen (the folks you reported to be removed and fired which pulled through). Your number one clearly shows you haven't learn a thing. You don't choose when to be in the spotlight in the corporate world. It just happens. |
