It was my grandfather. I believe he also invented the trekking for a cause thingy.

Lols this is quite interesting.

I think it started back in those days when eating bread was mainly for people living in the city, bakeries hardly existed in the villages so in a way to show people back home what kind of foods existed in city, travellers; mostly those going to the village started buying bread when travelling.
Also, bread hawkers in other that cash in on this started hawking bread near motor parks and expressways so it became almost unavoidable not to buy bread when boarding a bus to travel.

I guess it's because you only get bread from visiting big cities then.....bread(slice and/or family size) wasn't really available in the villages and small towns
