The DISCOs in the power sector are blatantly corrupt. Problem is that people do not know their right. These officials will come with one long notebook and their van and will intimidate you to submission to pay outrageous bills. When you ask, they all give one common excuse..."We have a target"... Where I lived before, I suggested to the co-tenants that we should file a complaint to NERC just like the OP did because of the outrageous bills they were slamming on us but most of them with their "bigmanism" still contributed the money to pay them. 27k per flat in a block of over 15 flats. I just left them with their stupidity and packed out of the house.

this cheating is widespread. the funniest thing is that my landlord is even forcing me to pay the outrageous bill of N20,000 on the average monthly. telling me that the bill will be on him if I pack out

Now this is something every Nigerian should do. Junk that black meter for a prepaid one... That way, they'll be forced to provide electricity if they ever intend to generate money

Kudos OP.. That was how I was involved in raising awareness about the #750 service charge on prepaid meters which ensured that every prepaid meter was remitting #12,000 yearly whether it is in use or not. It was eventually scrapped.
Thanks for this enlightening experience. I surely have some advice for willing ears here on grin

Pls share your advice... I paid 12,600 for my last montgs bill, cleared all my bill. In fact, na PHCN owe me like #13. The issue now is, when I went to pay my last bill (where I cleared the bill with extra #13), the woman that received the money was impressed. She adviced me to apply for prepaid meter... This I have been doing for over 6months now; I am even discouraged! What may I do? I stay in Kubwa (FCDA), Katampe service area. I have even applied up to the level of Katampe angry

Re: How A Customer Stood His Ground Against Outrageous NEPA Bill. by MONITZ: 8:26pm On Mar 29, 2018
These people re just ridiculous,I know of a building {duplex} which was given a monthly bill of 1.9 million which was way above it's monthly bill of 10,14k,the occupants were forced to ask the officials if they were insinuating that a factory was within the premises and a single bill had not been paid since the house was built, despite series of letters written to BEDC to ratify the blunder ,they re yet to with every monthly bill till this very moment still bearing the ridiculous charge.. Yhese people re greed personified, the panacea to this malady is to insist on pre-paid metering system for every home ,this would go a long way in plugging the loop holes these unscrupulous officials use in fleecing customers despite their abysmally poor services...I believe we would definitely get there someday if we know our rights and ready for them to be enforced, this was how NITEL held us by the jugulars until the communication sector was privatized and today we hear not again of such a behemoth entity that oppressed Nigerians with oppressive bills despite their poor services,we will surely get there just that it might take a little longer...

I guess Nigeria is the way it is today because we the citizens don't stand up to our rights.

We don't even know our rights, hence we get intimidated and submit to our oppressors

Estimated billing system is a fraud, thievery and exploitation of the masses.

Didn't the Minister of Power directed sometimes ago that properties without prepaid meters shouldn't pay power bills any longer?

Sadly, government will look the other way because the companies are owned by their cronies.

We are a docile people.
