if you are thinking about starting fish farming as an agribusiness, you need to consider some important factors that may affect the success and profitability of the fish farming business. When siting a fish farm, the following are among the major considerations one should take into account:

Availability of suitable land with a reliable source of water and good climatic history e.g. land with no history of flood.
Accessibility to the Site for the supply of inputs and for taking the product to the market. Accessibility and distances from one’s sources of inputs as well as to the market affect transporting costs. Being close to the market and sources of supply reduces one's transport costs and can make a difference on profit margins.
Market availability and accessibility. If one is retailing directly from the farm, for example, it is much better to have the farm located as close to the market as possible. If, on the other hand, one intends to do bulk sales once in a while, then the farm can be further away from the market as you would be transporting and delivering large amounts to one destination probably once a week or month. Also, bear in mind that fish is a highly perishable commodity when fresh. If one is to supply fresh fish and does not have facilities for live transportation or holding fish alive, invest in this equipment. If the market requires smoked products, the farm would take into account easy access to the correct type of firewood and ability to process and smoke large amounts of fish in that environment.
Other land uses in the vicinity. All fish farmers should take note of what sort of activities going on in their surroundings because of their potential impact on your production and product quality. Care should especially be given to activities that are likely to affect the quality and volume of water to the farm. For example, it is not recommended to site a fish farm where the effluent from factories enters your water source, as most probably the effluent is likely to have a negative effect on the quality of water for fish production.
Utilities. Does the production technology you intend to adopt (e.g.for storage of fish) require that you need power? If it does, then the farm should be in a location easily accessible to power.
. Roads and other Transport Networks. These influence accessibility and costs of getting to the farm.
Social Aspects. For example, it would not be wise to set-up a commercial smokery in the middle of a residential area as your neighbors might complain.

Nice one Op.. Let me just add my 1kobo

Availability (quantity) and high quality of water are the most important aspect of Aquaculture

Considering flooded area, its still not a major issue just that U might have to spend more in maintaining the dykes/embankment especially during the rainy season, make sure U call consults professional Aquaculturist and probably Civil engineers but if U can get a non flooded plain then thats awesome

Easy accessibility to supply of inputs is a no brainer but if your farm is like 10 miles to the supply it still aint a problem just make sure U can get a reliable form of transportation, also there are a lot of agro alliedstores ready to transport to U but it still comes at a cost or better yet get your feed mill with aid of experienced professionals of course

All in all Catfish business is very profitable considering U hatch the frys yourself or buy quality juveniles from a trusted source (this part cant be stressed enough)

Also the best form to raise them to table size is earthen pond

Catfish farming also has a long value chain for instance,
If all U want to do is hatch and grow to fingerlings and juveniles, U will still get market

If all U wan To to do is smoke melange or table sized fishes, market dey!

Want formulate your own feed and sell, e still dey and so much more

There's more to producing you own feed than just getting a good formulation.
First you have to sure of the quality of the feed ingredients you are buying before
compounding your feed. Then you must make provision for vitamin and mineral
premix as well as antioxidants to improve your feed nutrients value and shelf life.
Finally storage of the feed is important, must be stored in moist environment and
it's should be well aerated to avoid molds growing on them.

Lol am not Op oh

However if U want to produce, firstly U must know what ratio of nutrients constitute a balance diet for the fish

After that U can produce in so many ways from the very local way of boiling the maize contents and protein substitutes and moulding The finished product like same way U did do beans cake

Or getting a small pelletsizer and boiling and mixing all products then passing it through the pelletsizer with different mouth for different feed size

Or the commercial method, whereby U did need these 3 different machines which are Grinder, mixer and pelletsizer

I just gave U a summary of what feed production entails, to learn more pls attend a seminar, read extensively online or call smone to come teach U

The pic is example of method 2

The difference between a rich man and a comfortable man is that the former is an investor or businessman while the latter is a salary earner.. How I wish people can snap out of their slumber.. Though, me too I'm still trying to raise money to start farming business sha.. I just hope something good surfaces...

The ones U mentioned cant be reared in fresh water body only in saltwater like ocean, hence one of the main reasons its 100% imported in Naija, we dont have the facility to engage in such deep water fishing.
