A 47-year-old father of two children, Mr. Okereke Iroegbute, who hails from Umuzegem, Ubauhu, Okigwe LGA, Imo State - has been given a reason to smile again after he was given an artificial leg to help his condition. According to reports, on the 24th June 1999 by 12 midnight, the school teacher was a victim of armed robbery attack in his residence in Imo State.

“It was a terrible incident that has left me a disable” -Mr. Okereke lamented”.

“I was shot severally in my right leg by the robbers in their quest for money”. “All effort to treat this leg and walk normal was unfruitful; the last remedy was to cut the leg that’s why I have one leg,'' he passionately disclosed.

Mr. Okereke Iroegbute is the first beneficiary of ObinnaCare Initiative, a humanitarian pet project of Hon. Obinna Kingsley Onwubuaririi, member representing Okigwe/Isiala-Mbano/Onuimo federal constituency, at the National Assembly Abuja.

Sorry for this aberration:

"Most of our Doctors and Nurses in Nigeria are very lazy when it comes to treatment of patients especially surgery. Once they see someone with damaged or infected limbs, the quick thing that comes to their mind is amputation even when the limb is treatable, I have heard testimonies of people who refused to get their limbs amputated by these hospitals (Especially Government) and those limbs were well treated and restored.

Congratulations to him.

Doctors don't just amputate someone's leg.
There are standard protocols to follow before a decision to cut or not to cut is made.
Don't put out wild allegations on this forum.
You're not an orthopaedic surgeon.......I'm not even sure you're in the medical field, so keep your opinions to yourself.
Cheers

He is lucky that it was just his legs that was amputated.

He would have been worse off if it was his preek that was affected.
Because a one-legged man can marry a fresh bride.

I just came back home from the hospital where I spent 3 days with my dad who is diabetic and has a wound on his leg.

In Ondo town, when the wound first developed, he was taken to Trauma in Ondo town where he was treated and the wound healed.

However, soon after my dad was discharged, he refused taking his medication and the sore retruned.
\
We brought him to LUTH in Lagos. My dad bluntly refused to be placed in the public ward and hence we had to pay through the nose for the private ward at 42,500 a night a room and 25,000 per consultant visit.

Despite all that cost, my dad almost lost his foot and eventually would have been his leg.

I suspect that they had already concluded an amputation of the entire leg was the only option from the word go.

We had to rush my dad to a specialist clinic who are trying to salvage the foot. He has lost the 2 toes due to the poor treatment at LUTH.

His foot may be salvaged eventually and we are finally getting there.

Those doctors at LUTH can be heartless

1999? Buhari and obasanjo?
God will help you.
But before he does help you ... you need to take a chill pill and Maybe for once think of how and what you can do for Nigeria.. it does not necessarily have to be the other way round all d time.
