This is really bad. Sadly, it's the reality of our nation. I still wonder who APC pays the said 5k to.

Just last month, I saw the son of the malam of our Arabic school selling pure water. I was shocked and felt so bad. What worsened this was that I had no money on me.
The boy didn't recognize me. He's my namesake-Mustapha. He came up to me and asked if I was gonna buy pure water. I looked at him and asked if he knew me. He said, "no".
That was when I made myself know. He was astounded but hardly smiled. I asked about everyone from him and he said they're OK. I wanted to ask more but I felt I was passing my boundary. I just bade him bye. So sad.

I hope this is a joke.
I hope it's an exaggeration.

I don't want to believe it.

No cry

He's telling the truth. grin

Some little kids hawk which is better.

While others (the almajiris) act like vultures in the school cafeteria. If you are new in the North, you might lose appetite seeing such. grin cheesy

You also find some at the school gate...as soon as you paying the taxi/keke driver, the surround you saying some Arabic gibberish. When I'm in a good, I give. Bad mood...fvck em all.

Some others stay in front of the ATM.

I have once met a suya man with 4 wives. Asked him how many children he got...said 7 and still wants more. I didn't go further to ask him, "will you send them all to school?". What happens is that at a very tender age, when the parents cant keep up with needs and stuff s, they send the child out to mallams. Now this mallams teach them Arabic stuffs...give them plates...some don't have shoes, no access to clean water etc. They roam from house to house, schools to market begging.

Almajiri is type of modern day slavery rebranded with a new name.

It shows that Nigeria is a rogue state. This obvious crime of ultimate child abuse is happening in front of a so-called university that should have known the importance of child safeguarding and take drastic actions to prevent it from happening in their vicinity.

Most nigerian parents don't deserve pet rats, let alone precious children

This is a reflection of poverty in the country.

Forget poverty. How can a mother send this child to go hawk. Is she not scared of kidnappers, ritual killers...

Isn't that wickedness on the part of the parents? They don't love the child

Nigerian are too quick to offer advice but very slow to back it up with solutions. At least the little kid will learn the hard way that no body cares.

Oga I'm not tribalizing anything, I'm just saying it's a normal sight here in the North.
It's nothing new, it happens in the South too, but not very common in the University areas.

Bros, this shouldn't be an argument at all.
I schooled in the South and also Schooled in the North. Both studies are at Uni level.
I only stated what I've observed.
If you don't accept my point, I accept yours.

Census official, how many states have you been too in the north and how many schools that made you conclude like this?

thats very sad.. Why do there have such mentality? Is it because of their religion beliefs or illiteracy? I don't just get it

maybe he was with an elderly person who went to do one or two things because I don't see how this kid could have carried that stuff himself.
Re: Little Boy Selling Pure Water At The University Of Abuja Spotted By Nairalander by Stateside: 3:30pm On Apr 15, 2018
If the school is not in session, i dont see anything wrong. Obviously someone carried all the stuff and help him set it up. You can only learn what your parents do or have access to. The spirit of working hard must begin early.

I have seen children overseas who saved up money delivering newspaper from age 12/13 or mowing lawn. Lemonade stand is very popular as well. This kid is about 7yrs old. Not very far from that age.

Without knowing the full story, its hard to say.
