Guess many don't have a idea of the composition of work force of private companies both regular and contractual.

Private companies try to get the experienced hired to work on their projects

That CIA guy is most probably an employee of proforce. grin
Most likely. I know for certain they poached experienced guys formerly working with FNSS in Turkey.

That individual is most likely a staff of the company.

You owe this thread an apology.
Alright,
I, with the above monicker, a negro, of Nigerian descent, residing in my house, here with, having been found guilty of gross demeanor bordering on racial comment, with so much contrite heart and humbled shoulder, on this auspicious day, unreservedly tender my apology to the preponderance of the gentlemen of this noble thread.

Est-ce que mes excuses sont acceptées ?

So because he's an employee means he cannot be a CIA spy ? undecided
How else do you think grand espionage is carried out if not through multinational companies ?

That's a navy pilot. I wrongly captioned it as an air force pilot.

There should be a proper tender and evaluation process for this contract involving at least 2 other suppliers. Vehicles should be evaluated on protection, mobility and price. Trials should be done on a test track and in the bush, not on paper. If it does well , buy 400 and standardise based on the platform. If it doesn't, go back to the drawing board and start over. There's no shame in failing on your first go. The SA defence industry could feild a Bn's worth of prototypes that never sold.

Getting foreign expertise in to help out is essential if your getting started. Take look at what countries in the M.East like UAE and Qatar are doing to build up their local production. Lots of "White Papi's" walking around those companies BTW.
They buy foreign designs/expertise and then slowly build their own capabilities. This is what Turkey has been doing in the last 15 years and now they have a massive and diverse industry that exports all over the world.
There seems to be way too much procurement done on an ad hoc basis in Africa. You see examples of this everywhere, countries operate 4 or 5 systems that does the same job and then trying to deal with all the support and maintenance problems that goes with that.

At the end of the day, it has to be about what works for the Nigerian soldier on the ground not national pride.
It would sink your local industry if they end up having problems in the field after such a big buy.

Henry240:
For a Nigerian company, 50 is small. If we can afford to get 120 units CS-VP3 from China, 177 APCs from Streit group, i see no reason why we can't get 200 units of this beast.

Innoson still has its own armoured vehicles in the pipeline, including a fresh new company based in Lagos.

I just want to see a 6x6 variant of the ARA, something similar and armed like the Nexter TITUS.

I agree with most of what you have stated here, however Defence industries around the world cannot survive without their various home government support.

Trials are currently being undertaken, as we speak there at least 3 units under-going various tests with the Nigerian army.

The vehicle will do well as the professionals who built it have a combined 120 years in the industry. There are also foreign poached expertise from the likes of FNSS, BAE and BMC who work for the company.

In my opinion, and irrespective of price, the Nigerian government should stick with the product in success and failure. That's the only way to build a sustainable defence industry. A country like Nigeria should not be buying all it's military hardware from abroad, it's not just a thing of pride but more so of national security.

If they have problems in the field, the company responsible will fix it. We've deployed tons of foreign vehicles that have not performed optimally, so why not try local?
