in a typical combat situation, the rear helicopter would be providing cover.
Exactly what it was doing the entire duration of the exercise for the inbound helicopter performing insertion of special forces; both helicopters after insertion provided highly dangerous cover in low-level & mid-level combat manoveurs over head the vicinity of interest. The purpose being not only for insertion but also possible extraction depending on operational plan and contingency situation.

Someone as I expected shared the vid here and on Bidexiii's page. You have a blog and should be able to make deductions. The Nigerian Military show cased a world class near real life hostage rescue and silent kill operation.

Alright,
I, with the above monicker, a negro, of Nigerian descent, residing in my house, here with, having been found guilty of gross demeanor bordering on racial comment, with so much contrite heart and humbled shoulder, on this auspicious day, unreservedly tender my apology to the preponderance of the gentlemen of this noble thread.

Est-ce que mes excuses sont acceptées ?
Actually should be for "gross misdemeanor" and not "gross demeanor" lol but you're welcome. You're a gentleman.

I fully agree that Nigeria should build a local defence industry. Too much money flowing out of the continent for things we could build here.
Offshore deals also create a environment ideal for corruption to thrive. Take the SA def. deal in the 90's for example. It much easier for law enforcement to investigate shady transactions through local banks that they can subpoena for evidence. Local procurement can be done with much more transparency.

The product has to be good enough though. Competition is a good thing and should be embraced not avoided.
I don't see any reason that Nigeria couldn't develop a world class MRAP that could beat foreign products on it own merits. I just dont think it would help your industry or the soldiers that are going to go into contact with these vehicles if you force a "buy Nigerian" policy on the military. If it meets clear performance metrics using the competition as a baseline, then it shouldn't have a problem. This can only be done with side by side testing in a evaluation setting with the military involved.

The problems with some of the vehicles you procured in the past was that ,for whatever reasons, there were no proper evaluation and that some of these system were just bought off-the-shelf.

Henry240:
If they have problems in the field, the company responsible will fix it. We've deployed tons of foreign vehicles that have not performed optimally, so why not try local?

I also agree with some of the modifications that Frum suggested especially the point on the CHAIN STEPS and the Bars, however I dont know how going more modular in compromising the weight might compromise the Blast protection not to sure . Perhaps 61 mech can elaborate more
i am more concerned about Soldiers surviving the blast than it's speed.

I agree with most of what you have stated here, however Defence industries around the world cannot survive without their various home government support.

Trials are currently being undertaken, as we speak there at least 3 units under-going various tests with the Nigerian army.

The vehicle will do well as the professionals who built it have a combined 120 years in the industry. There are also foreign poached expertise from the likes of FNSS, BAE and BMC who work for the company.

In my opinion, and irrespective of price, the Nigerian government should stick with the product in success and failure. That's the only way to build a sustainable defence industry. A country like Nigeria should not be buying all it's military hardware from abroad, it's not just a thing of pride but more so of national security.
Thats really bad economics and good way to ensure that Nigerian products will never be competitive on the global stage. The brutal competition of the market is how you build brutally profitable companies.

Or learn from your mistakes and avoid getting sub-optimal products in the first place. I think the Australians have an excellent procurement system - look up their recent Land 400 trials.

Just dont take it too far and become like the Americans who test a product for a decade before deciding it isnt good enough grin grin

You can force local products without compromising standards. As someone new in the product, what will be needed is technical know-how for areas where they lack expertise.

The Chinese are doing it pretty well. Local products.

Nigeria's Senate seeks explanation of $462 million to buy helicopters

Nigeria’s upper chamber of parliament on Tuesday said it would invite the central bank governor and the ministers of finance and defence to explain the release of $462 million to buy helicopters, a lawmaker said.

Senator Sam Anyanwu said the money was withdrawn from the federal account in March without the approval of lawmakers.
According to Anyanwu, “I have it on good authority that in March, 2018, from the Federation Account, a sum of 462 million dollars was withdrawn and paid for helicopters to an American firm.

“This is without the approval of the National Assembly. I know that at no time was there any request from this Senate for any such withdrawal from the Consolidated Revenue Account of the federation.

“I will suggest we invite the CBN Governor, the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Defence to tell us how this money was withdrawn and paid into an American company without the approval of the Senate,” he said.

On Monday the Chief of Air Staff of the Nigerian Air Force said the Nigerian Air Force was inducting six new helicopters into service, with more on the way.

Helicopters? I'm only surprised as it's an American firm.

Maybe something from the $1B. The Senate still wants to be Incharge concerning the fund.

The mistake is from the Senator. In the report he read on the floor of the House, he did mention "Techno Helicopters".

Actually the error comes from the vanguardngr. He was referring to the Tucano deal.

Ah, I for fear. The senator probably Google searched Tucano and noticed it has propeller hence why he called it helicopter. Lol

I speak under correction, but I believe South African special forces lean more towards weapons handling (on numerous different local & international platforms), tracking, reconnaissance and long range endurance... as opposed to snapping people's necks. But hand-hand combat is no doubt a part of their training, but perhaps not their speciality. Who knows.

SF has a packed training schedule. Hand to hand combat takes a lot of time to develop, so you have to balance it out with the rest of your training. It might ,for instance , be more valuable to concentrate on training for foreign weapons handling, navigation etc.

A lot of the stuff you see SF doing on youtube has been proven worthless in the MMA octagon. Modern hand to hand combat training should start with wrestling skills rather than fancy roundhouse kicks and brick smashing.
