I don't know why Nigerians are always in the news for the wrong reasons. What sort of fraudulent behaviour is that? There are legitimate means for people to migrate - Federal Skills Worker, Provincial Nomination, Study Permit etc... why must people be involved in this nonsense? It's not as if there is war or chaos in Nigeria to warrant this nonsense. Now, the Canadian immigration might start to treat PR applications from Nigerians with a pinch a salt. I don't know when we will start to do things the right way in this country. It's purely unreasonable and pathetic, trying to by pass the system. Those guys should be sent back to America, it makes no sense....Canada is too soft for my liking.

News release
From: Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada

April 19, 2018 – Ottawa, ON – Members of the Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Task Force on Irregular Migration met for the ninth time yesterday to discuss continuing the close collaboration and better ways to address the increase of irregular migrants crossing into Canada over the last several weeks.

Federal Minister and Task Force Chair, Marc Garneau, began the meeting by reiterating the importance of ongoing federal and provincial collaboration in order to manage the influx with compassion and in accordance with Canadian law.

Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC) Ahmed Hussen, added that last summer, and throughout 2017, both levels of governments were successful in responding to the movement of irregular migrants by working together to address challenges as they arose.

Minister Hussen underlined new federal investments of $173 million over two years to support the intake and processing of asylum claims, security screening, detentions and removals. This includes an investment of $74 million in the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) to expand capacity and process claims faster. He noted that a 40 percent increase in claims finalization was achieved at the IRB last year due to efficiency measures and that the new funding will support decision-making capacity at the IRB, which will relieve pressures on provincial services.

Recently, Minister Hussen met with the ‎High Commissioner of Nigeria where the issue of Nigerians transiting through the U.S. to claim asylum in Canada was discussed.

During his trip to Washington last week, Minister Garneau met with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials and raised the issue of irregular migration. Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Ralph Goodale will be meeting with DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen on the margins of the upcoming G7 Security Ministerial meeting to discuss joint border security and public safety issues, including irregular migration.

Minister Hussen concluded by saying that IRCC and Global Affairs Canada (GAC) continue to work together on outreach in the U.S., meeting with organizations and community leaders. As well, GAC’s U.S. mission network continues to proactively communicate how a rules-based immigration system works and correct any misinformation.

Moving forward, the members of the Task Force agreed to take concrete actions to ensure a coordinated and effective response to the irregular migration situation. To this end, members announced that they will be working together to assess details of Quebec’s claims for additional financial resources.

Officials were directed to explore the development of a possible triage system at or near the Canada-U.S. border. This would include gathering information on asylum claimants’ including their intended destination in Canada with the goal of alleviating pressures on major urban centers and reducing labour shortages in certain regions.

Members also agreed to intensify efforts to work constructively with the United States (U.S.) on the issue of irregular migration.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Minister Garneau encouraged all members to maintain an open dialogue and work together to address shared challenges. Members also acknowledged that those whose claims have been accepted as genuine refugees fleeing violence and persecution will help grow our country as permanent residents.

The Task Force will continue to collaborate and share information moving forward.

Good morning house.

BG check stuck at "Your application is in progress. We will send you a message when we start your background check" for the past 2 months.

How can I determine the current status of my application and maybe prompt action in the process?

Dont be discouraged please. You are almost there. Havent you read here that some one wrote the IELTS fot 8 times and he was paying about 150k at each try ?

Please you gotta be strong. I have learnt alot of lessons on this journey. After these whole experience am sure I will be a better person cos of the lessons of patience , persevearance, endurance etc.

So please have faith and also encourage your hubby not to be discouraged.

I started this journey around November last year with less than 2million in my account and I tell you what none of my family members gave me a dime to make up my POF.
But I persisted with faith and pushed on. To Gods glory I made up the POF in circumstances that is best explained as testimony and I got ITA the same day I submitted my profile .

Testimonies plenty am just waiting for the food to be done before we start the church service grin grin grin.

So please count yourself lucky that you have the priviledge of information and forge ahead. We will all meet over a plate of goat meat pepper soup in Canada very soon. tongue tongue tongue

1. There is war and chaos in Nigeria
2. Canada's 'softness' is the reason we're on this thread. Please they should stay soft.
3. I agree that people should go the legal route and stop looking for short cuts.

How's the French going? Chances are your tutor will have a west African accent or an anglicised accent. Meanwhile tef listening will be French or québécois accent... Start listening to French radio everyday even before you understand anything. It will help the language portion of your brain.

Visit RFI website they have daily resources (podcasts with transcripts, easy news articles) for learning French and an online station.

All the best.

On behalf of my hubby, I want to appreciate God and everyone on this thread, who has encouraged, motivated and shared learning materials.

First IELTS (10.02.18) LRWS 6,8,8,7.5
Second IELTS (24.03.18) LRWS 7.5,8.5,6.5,8

When he saw the above second result on 6 April 2018, he just applied immediately for the following day’s test (7 April 2018). Just checked his result now and it turned out this way LRWS 8.5,8.5,7,8 despite the limited practice time. Hence, shifting the meagre CRS of 400 to 450.

Thank you all.

Please be strong Ma'am. Mine was so frustrating especially when i had a seemingly good score: LRWS: 7.5, 7.5, 8.0, 8.5. I got so excited until i came across this forum and the bombshell fell when i realised that despite my Masters degree, my CRS waa stilk at 412. I didnt understand what that meant until some guys explained that i needed to have atleast 8.0 in listening. Couldnt believe coughing out 68k again. Well to cut the story short, i put in more effort and aced d test and today i am smiling with a CRS of 470.
In a nutshell, ask your hubby to identify his weakness(es) and give it his best shot. Trust me u guys will get there.
All the best.

Hello house, My question is as regards work reference. My previous work experience spans over 2years and falls under (NOC) 2011, i intend to apply with this using the reference letters from my previous employer, currently i'm on a part time job that is less than a year, prior to this i was out of job for a yr. The challenge is previous employer can only provide reference letters and probably payslips. i have my funds (POF) ready and intact but my bank statement does not reflect salary payments as this was cash based and project dependent. I'm confused. Kindly advise
