SternProphet:
Senegal is impressively proactive and prepared for regional radical Islamic terrorists all moves choreographed from Paris
what I specifically love about the Senegalese is their procurement policies. if you follow, then you'll notice that they are not just rushing to get high end equipment so fast..... instead they are working on getting the necessary foundational skills and experience first.

if you look at their acquisition process for the past two years you'll see that they ACTUALLY have a really good plan.

Air Force
2x C295 transport planes (logistics)
4x mil Mi-24/35 (attack)
4x aero vodochy L-39 Albatross (trainer & attack)

Navy
6x KCR 60 FAST ATTACK CRAFT
(attack)
1 Tarmac class Landing platform dock
(logistics)

(Air defence)
ground master air surveillance radar to be integrated with their existing Skyview air defence network system.

all within the space of two years. it seems they actually learnt something during the Gambian invasion.
Remember Nigeria brought a warship to their doorstep why also overflying their domain (not airspace) with alpha jet. I believe they are trying to prevent a repeat of that.

I won't be surprised if I hear they ordered for MiGs, JF-17 or any other fourth generation fighter jets before 2020. (though in small quantity)

Maybe Frumentum knows more about this..kinda noticed he has access to the recce's whatsup group grin But thought when coming to guns, its a last resort to use bullets on ops so thats qhy I asked about their hand to hand skills
Its actually the other way around, hand to hand combat is a last resort...... and what you see on YouTube and in movies with regards to hand to hand combat is nothing like the real thing........ If you want to see what real hand to hand combat looks like watch mma.

That said I'm pretty certain they do train in hand to hand combat to some extent, after all boxing has always been a part of the selection process.

@the bolded.
Nigeria entered their airspace with their permission. Stop making a tornado out of a tea cup.

The Senegalese are really moving forward sha, they seem to have a clearcut procurement policy.

Parabats and their air-droppable vehicles: From prototype to production, featuring the Jakkals, Firefly and the Ferret.
What gun is that being towed by the Jakkals and the Ferret?

I take it you mean these two?

PIC1: They needed an anti-tank capability for the Parabats, so they fitted a 90mm gun from an Eland to a 6-pounder anti-tank gun carriage. It was an effective weapon and the Jakkals jeep towed it easily, but the time it took to bring it into action and its lack of mobility caused them to reject it.

PIC2: The Ferret has a 106mm recoilless gun with protective sleeve mounted and Armscor had fitted armoured windows in place of the periscope for the driver. The towed gun is the 90mm which was also found not suitable for engaging armour in the bush.

Malaysia in Talks to Buy JF-17 Thunder Aircraft from Pakistan
Published April 18th, 2018 - 13:00 GMT via SyndiGate.info

The Malaysian government is in “preliminary talks” with Pakistan to buy the multi-role JF-17 Thunder combat aircraft developed jointly by China and Pakistan.

“The Malaysian government has shown interest in buying the JF-17 Thunder aircraft from Pakistan but the deal is yet to be finalized,” a senior Pakistan Ministry of Defense Production official said.

Pakistan officials at the Defense Services Asia 2018 exhibition in Kuala Lumpur have been marketing military gadgets to potential buyers. “We are trying to increase our defense exports to one billion dollars within the next two years,” the official said.

“We have been targeting sales to countries such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Malaysia and Egypt.”

Pakistan’s Senate standing committee on defense production was told in June last year that the volume of defense exports had increased from $63 million in 2006-07 to more than $98 million in the fiscal year 2017-18.

The JF-17 Thunder is a single-engine, lightweight, multi-purpose combat aircraft that was developed jointly by the Chengdu Aircraft Industry Corporation of China and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex.

The maiden flight of the JF-17 was completed in August 2003 and entered service in March 2007. The aircraft is expected to cater to the combat requirements of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) as “this is cost-effective and equipped with all the latest technology,” the Ministry of Defense Production official said.

“What perhaps could make the JF-17 particularly attractive to the RMAF is that its engine is also used in the Mig-29 and for which the service already has repair and maintenance facilities in place.”

“This would further reduce overall operational cost of the new aircraft for the cash-strapped Malaysian military.”

According to Pakistan’s Defense Export Promotion Organization (DEPO), more than 20 major public-sector organizations and more than 100 private-sector firms are engaged in the manufacturing of defense-related products in the country.

“All these products are internationally recognized for quality, reliability and competitive prices,” the DEPO said. “Both the public and private firms are abreast of the need and meeting the landmarks with full zeal and enthusiasm.”

Retired Lt. Gen. Amjad Shoaib, a defense analyst, said that Pakistan has been producing cost-effective and cutting-edge defense machines and weaponry that is attractive to both developing and developed countries.

“Many countries including Malaysia are showing interest in the purchase of the JF-17 Thunder aircraft because its technology is much better than aircraft produced by the U.S., France and other developed countries in recent times,” he said.

O/T: The Kurds, goddammit! Do you know these 30 mn scattered throughout Iran,Iraq,Turkey,Syria and Armenia once actually once had their own country!? For barely a year the republic of Mahabad south of the USSR squeezed hard by Turkey ,Iraq and Iran existed.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/07/Republic_of_mahabad_and_iranian_azerbaijan_1945_1946.png

Cold war realities and big oil shenanigans put paid to the Kurdish state within a year:since then they've been as stateless as Palestinians or W Papuans. Turk generals (mis)use their guerrilla force the PKK as a real life training force for their guys. Their leader Abdullah Ocalan was caught here in Nairobi early 99 by Turk specops. Many say he was sold by our then formin Bonaya Godana for smth between half to one million dollars. Ideally,he should've explained but his journey was cut short 7 years later when a KAF Y 12 went down in N Kenya and exploded.

Here's the CIA version of the story:
In 1999 Greece’s National Intelligence Agency (EYP) conducted a high-risk operation that ended in a debacle and strained its relations with the United States, Turkey, and other nations. The operation was an effort to transfer Abdullah Ocalan, the fugitive founding leader of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), from Greece to a country in Africa to avoid his capture by Turkish authorities. Athens’s plan was to hide Ocalan in the Greek embassy in Nairobi until he could be transferred to another location. Army Major Savvas Kalenteridis, an EYP officer, was assigned to escort Ocalan to his destination
https://www.cia.gov/library/center-for-the-study-of-intelligence/csi-publications/csi-studies/studies/vol53no1/fiasco-in-nairobi.html

Wouldn't this whole episode make a fascinating movie!?

Btw,many many things involving many many players happen in Kenya! I've heard the Paki nuke scientist AQ Khan used a local smuggling route to transport nuke tec to Arabs,I think Libya that heroin wholesalers later utilised. Anyway Ocalan's death sentence was commuted and he's still around.
His supporters still fight for super power support for their homeland and are highly effective against the Syrian ISIL. The curse of being situated on oil pipeline routes surrounded by nervous neighbours while lacking leverage to push global political orgs on their own is brutal.

One wonders why they didn't simply use an Eland 90 instead of resorting to the towed 90mm. Two of those could be driven into a C-160.

Might be wrong, but I don't think Eland is air-droppable. Besides, between SSB and Mech Infantry, I don't think there were enough spare Elands for the Parabats at that stage.
